The formation of intermetallic compounds at the weld interface hampers the weld quality. The use of an intermediate layer of a compatible material during welding reduces the formation of intermetallic compounds. The purpose of this paper is to optimize the FSW process parameters for AA6063-ETP copper weld, using a compatible zinc intermediate filler metal. Design/methodology/approach In the present study, a three-level, three-factor central composite design (CCD) has been used to determine the effect of various process parameters, namely, tool rotational speed, tool traverse speed and thickness of inter-filler zinc foil on ultimate tensile strength of the weld. A total of 60 experimental data were fitted in the CCD. The experiments were performed with tool rotational speeds of 1,000, 1,200 and 1,400 rpm each of them with tool traverse speeds of 5, 10 and 15 ...

Wastes from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (commonly known as WEEEs) often abbreviated as " E-Waste " is one of the most threatening and fastest growing waste problems of the entire world. Developing countries like India are at a greater risk because of illegal imports and increasing domestic generation of e-wastes is observed and also since there are very little or no regulations or laws regarding e-waste management. 90% of all the million tons of e-waste of India are discarded by informal recyclers who use rudimentary methods of processing, thus causing air, water and ground pollution. A key factor in sustainable manufacturing is safe disposal and seeing as e-waste is the result of mass manufacturing of electronic goods, it is pivotal to dispose it safely. This paper highlights the present situation of e-waste management in India and its effects so far and presents a new, unique management model, as the best solution for management of e-waste in India. This model takes into account the financial dependency of the informal sector on recycling, incorporates them into the model, and initializes an interdependent system of recycling, thus making is profitable for every concerning party involved in the recycling process. Necessary changes in rules and regulations as well as methods to implement this model with ease are provide in this paper.

Recently the life of the products has decreased drastically which has made it necessary to plan for End-of-Life (EOL) options for the product. The design factors for the same need to be incorporated at an early stage of Prototyping for the New Product. Remanufacturing is now being accepted as a strategy for competitive advantage supported by government policies in western countries. Besides the Repairing, Reconditioning and Recycling; Remanufacturing has become the most advocated EOL options carried out by Original Equipment Manufacturer's (OEM's) OR 3 rd Party Remanufacturers. Some OEM's attempt to integrate the same with Product Service System while others do not take it up for fear of cannibalization. For the success of Remanufacturing, optimization of newly added distinct process from the traditional manufacturing system is essential. It may be noted that the better the quality of core, the lesser will be the demand on Operations. The product should be so designed that the customer should be able to select the right EOL option at different life cycle phases of the product. Testing and Diagnosis techniques are central activities to the Remanufacturing Process. The dual role of the customer as an end user as well as a source of used product for Remanufacturing becomes important for setting up the measures for the Remanufacturing affiliated activities within the organization.
