The contribution of ICT to enterprise development has been recognized and many countries including Kenya have made deliberate efforts in integrating ICT into small enterprise (SE) development agenda. However, the adoption and use of ICT by small enterprises has been below expectations. The study sought to determine factors affecting the adoption and use of ICT by (SEs) Kenya. The study was conducted through a survey questionnaire covering a stratified sample of 78 respondents drawn from 390 SEs in Thika. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were used to analyze data. Chi-square tests were conducted to establish the relationship between variables. Results indicated that most SEs use basic communication tools such as mobile (75%), internet (34.6%). Adoption and use of ICT tools has not been well embraced by SEs. Most SEs are ch...

Some firms especially small ones tend to ignore the concept of corporate social responsibility while others take pride and fully involve themselves. We aimed to identify factors that influence the sustainability of a community health volunteer programme across the globe. Methods: We conducted a scoping review using the Arksey and O’Malley framework. From four major databases, we extracted qualitative and quantitative peer-reviewed studies published in the English language, from January 2000 to March 2022, that reported on factors influencing sustainability of a community volunteer programme. We adopted a narrative synthesis form to report our findings. Results: Our search strategy yielded 1086 citations, of which 35 articles were finally included for the review after screening for eligibility. The studies included in our review reported an attrition rate ranging from 9 to 53%. The crucial factors that played a decisive role in sustainability included sociodemographic and sociocultural factors, trust, incentives, identity and recognition, sense of belonging, family support and other programme-related factors. Conclusion: Our study found that several complex personal and social factors affect the community health volunteers’ performance, thereby impacting the scaling up of a community volunteer programme. Efforts to address these factors would aid policy makers to successfully sustain a volunteership programme in resource-poor settings.

It is upon this foundation that the Kenyan Government under the ICT Authority realized a need to set up digital villages, otherwise known as Pasha Centers (Swahili word meaning to inform). Entrepreneurial model was used in Kenya unlike in other countries where the aim of digital villages was to bridge technological gap. The implementation of Pasha Centers required each constituency in Kenya to have a pasha. However five years down the line, only 63 centers had been opened and others closed subsequently. The purpose of this study was therefore to assess the effect of implementation strategy towards success of digital villages. 63 pasha managers and ICT-A personnel formed the target population. This was a census study conducted through questionnaires and interview guide as data collection instruments. Analysis of data entailed use of two computer software program: Computer...
