It can be physically uncomfortable, psychologically distressing and may have a negative impact on self-confidence and body image. Various modalities of treatment for this condition have been mentioned in literature. Aim of our study is to evaluate our surgical strategy used to correct gynecomastia using tumescent liposuction and to do surgical excision of the gland when the gland was palpable. Methods: The case record forms of 35 patients, who underwent surgical treatment of gynecomastia by our technique between April 2014 and January 2018 at our centre were analysed retrospectively. Data obtained from admission notes, operative notes, discharge summary, out-patient department follow up sheet. Result: Total of thirty five patients were included in the study. 33 were bilateral gynecomastia and 2 were unilateral. Minimum age of the p...

It was first described by Pinkus and Mehregan as 'Epidermotropic eccrine carcinoma'. It may occur de novo or as a malignant transformation of an eccrine poroma. It is commonly found in older age group and in the lower extremities. Clinically, it may present as a verrucous plaque, polypoid growth or an ulcerative lesion of long duration. Local recurrence and metastasis to skin, lymphnodes, viscera, and bone may occur. Treatment is wide local excision. Metastatic lesions can be treated with chemotherapy. We report a case of eccrine porocarcinoma of the scalp in a 50 years old female who presented to us with a bosselated, firm, painless, non-tender, freely mobile swelling over left fronto-parietal region of 12 years duration. It was excised and histopathological diagnosis was Eccrine Porocarcinoma. In literature, scalp porocarcinoma is a very rare tumor.

This Cleft has also been described as Cleft No. 30 of Tessier′s classification. In minor forms only lower lip is cleft. Frequently, the cleft extends into the mandibular symphysis and the tongue is attached to the cleft alveolar margin. At times the tongue may be bifid or absent, hyoid absent, thyroid cartilage underdeveloped, strap muscles atrophic, manubrium sterni absent, clavicles widely spaced etc. The earliest report of this anomaly was by Couronne′ in 1819. Since then very few cases have been reported in literature with variations. We describe a male child who presented at the age of 6 months with an ectopic salivary gland on the dorsum of the tongue in addition to median cleft of lower lip, ankyloglossia and notching of the mandible. Excision of mass on dorsum of tongue, release of ankyloglossia and lip from the alveolus followed by repair was done. No bony work was done since the mandible was only notched. On...

Recent epidemiological studies undertaken in Indian population suggest a 30% increase in the occurrence of traumatic brachial plexus injury over the years. There has been an advent of a lot of new surgical techniques for the treatment of traumatic brachial plexus injury, nerve transfers being one of them if the patient falls within the criteria's of carrying out a nerve transfer. As a physiotherapist rehabilitating these surgical procedures, one needs to have a thorough understanding of the anatomical aspects of the surgery and how to go about the rehabilitation of the same. Thus the aim of this narrative report is to discuss the rehabilitation techniques followed over a decade at a government tertiary care hospital leading to successful rehabilitation of traumatic brachial plexus injury patients.

It was perhaps a poetic and fortuitous coincidence that his students came to call him as 'G'.

Therefore, an understanding of an individual patient’s perception through their journey of treatment for a traumatic brachial plexus injury is needed. Methods Thirteen patients with traumatic brachial plexus injury were selected using non-probability purposive sampling. Data were collected in the form of in-depth face-to-face interviews in a clinic setting of a tertiary government hospital using an explorative qualitative method. An interview guide comprising open-ended, nondirective semi structured questions was used and data were analyzed using an interpretative phenomenological approach. Results Eleven subthemes under the overarching theme of patient perception were identified. These subthemes illustrate perception of each individual participants’ journey of treatment for traumatic brachial plexus injury. Conclusion Our study following a ...

Deep burns over lip and oral commissures heal with scarring resulting in microstomia which leads to eating difficulties, hygiene problems, and facial disfigurement frequently requiring surgical correction. Hence, the prevention of microstomia becomes an important part of management of perioral burns. Here, the authors discuss their experience in the prevention of microstomia in burn patients with perioral involvement.

As a new resident, it is truly fascinating as to how such wide variety of bony work is done without scarring over the face. Here we discuss a few practical tips which the author has learned during his surgical sojourn in residency. It is hoped that the readers who are new to maxillofacial surgery, shall find these useful.

The act of using the commonly available wire twister exposes the operating surgeon as well as the patient to injury by the sharp edges of wire turning around. Pencil wire twister is advantageous in being safer for both the patient as well as the surgeon. In this paper, the authors discuss the feasibility of wider use of this immensely useful instrument.
