The state of art in context-aware computing has argued that ontologies are the most suitable tech... more The state of art in context-aware computing has argued that ontologies are the most suitable technique for the modeling phase of the context information life cycle. This paper proposes the Hermes Widget service, which provides an ontology-based context information representation mechanism. The aim is to investigate the impact of the complexity of an ontology-based context modeling in a real-world scenario. A scalability evaluation of the Hermes Widget service is performed using a well-known digital archive of physiological signals and related data for monitoring patients in ICUs. By demonstrating a linear growth of total time for context representation in contrast with an exponential growth of context information input, the experiments show the scalable behavior of the Hermes Widget service. Experiments' results also demonstrate that the ontologybased modeling used in Hermes Widget can be used in an efficient manner by offering several benefits to applications of that context modeling formalism.

Children and teenagers nowadays have easy access to various technological tools. Thus, schools ne... more Children and teenagers nowadays have easy access to various technological tools. Thus, schools need to adapt themselves to the modern world, incorporating into their activities new teaching methods in order to improve the teaching process, learning and multidisciplinary. One tool that can be highlighted is the educational robotics. However, the use of commercial robots becomes very costly when it's desired multiply the project for many schools, requiring medium to long term planning to make such a proposal possible. This project aims to develop a robot and software, both of low-cost, as an educational robotics tool for use in public schools, to elementary and high school students. Therefore a physical structure will be defined based on recycled materials, architecture controller, and open software, sensors and actuators also of low-cost or recycled.

A metodologia utilizada inclui a criação de um modelo ontológico com representação de informações espaçotemporais e a validação desse modelo por meio do desenvolvimento de um sistema de gerenciamento de transporte coletivo urbano de uma metrópole brasileira. Os autores defendem que a utilização de ontologias e especificações padrão de intercâmbio e consulta da Web Semântica facilita o desenvolvimento de sistemas de transporte inteligente quantò a representação semântica homogênea e compartilhada entre aplicações.

With the advancement of knowledge management studies, especially in the big data, the large volum... more With the advancement of knowledge management studies, especially in the big data, the large volumes of data generated by public health have become important allies to decision making, either at the administrative or operational levels. This data has its high relevance significantly through the application of analysis techniques and various types of applications, which aim to transform them into strategic information and knowledge. Given this scenario, this paper discusses the ecosystem that involves the management of knowledge and big data in the public health sector, with the purpose of indicating the prospects of advances in the context of smart cities projects. Com o avanço dos estudos em gestão do conhecimento, principalmente no que diz respeito área de big data, os grandes volumes de dados gerados pela saúde pública têm se tornado importantes aliados à tomada de decisões, seja em nível administrativo ou operacional. Estes dados tem sua relevância elevada significativamente através da aplicação de técnicas de análise e de diversos tipos de aplicações, que visam transformá-los em informações estratégicas e em conhecimento. Diante deste cenário, esse trabalho discute o ecossistema que envolve a gestão de conhecimento e de big data no setor da saúde pública, com o objetivo de indicar as perspectivas de avanços no contexto de projetos de cidades inteligentes.

Internet of Things is a paradigm in which sensors, actuators, devices or things seamlessly intera... more Internet of Things is a paradigm in which sensors, actuators, devices or things seamlessly interact with each other to achieve common goals. Such interaction is reachable if an expressive, interoperable and lightweight representation of context information exists. The literature has recommended ontologies as the main formalism for context information representation, but depending on the ontology being used it can be complex and heavy to run on resource-constrained devices. This paper presents a mobile service which represents context information using the emergent IoT-Lite ontology. An experiment with such service is performed in terms of time behavior and memory utilization when representing an increasing amount of data. Results demonstrate our service is lightweight if considered the amounts of time and memory spent for representing ontology-based data even in a resource-constrained device.

Diante da carência de estudos que atendam esse objetivo, este trabalho apresenta uma proposta de abordagem para alinhamento de requisitos de segurança e proteção de sistemas IoT críticos, que visa reduzir a complexidade na realização do processo de ER para engenheiros e desenvolvedores destes sistemas.

The Software Pattern Metamodel (SoPaMM) aligns requirements and test patterns under the influence of agile practices. However, these patterns will be more beneficial for professionals if development activities are supported by a software tool. This paper presents the behaviour-DRivEn Application Model generator (DREAM) tool, automatically generating requirements and test specifications from SoPaMM-based patterns. We show how DREAM supports requirements elicitation and specification, test case elaboration, and software documentation using a patterns catalogue for electronic health record systems.

In the Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm, a context management system (CMS) should support the co... more In the Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm, a context management system (CMS) should support the context life cycle including acquisition, modeling, reasoning and distribution of context information. The context modeling phase is responsible for the representation of context information in a format which should meet IoT requirements such as expressiveness, reuse, extension and interoperability. In this paper, we present the Hermes Widget IoT service, which represents context information using the semantics of IoT-oriented ontologies such as IoT-Lite and Semantic Sensor Network (SSN). As contribution, Hermes Widget IoT allows any context provider object (e.g. a sensor) to be located, used, and have its corresponding context information represented and made available for querying through the Internet.

The methodology includes the creation of an ontology-based model for representing spatiotemporal information as well as the model validation by means of the development of an urban transportation management system for a Brazilian metropolis. The authors argue that the combined use of ontologies and Semantic Web standard specifications for interchange and query makes it easier the development of intelligent transport systems concerning homogeneous and shared semantic representation among applications.

This paper presents a Systematic Review of Literature (RSL) in order to verify the contribution o... more This paper presents a Systematic Review of Literature (RSL) in order to verify the contribution of Ontologies to Conversational Agents (CA) in the teaching-learning context. The results indicate that the use of Ontologies in CAs is promising, since they allow actions in different domains, with different methods of interaction, inclusion of aspects of affectivity, and the need to meet non functional requirements such as usability and performance. Despite the benefits found, it is known that the creation of ontologies is costly. However, it is necessary to continue the research in a practical and experimental approach to seek the limits of the performance of such systems in real situations. Resumo. Este artigo apresenta uma Revisão Sistemática da Literatura (RSL) com o objetivo de verificar a contribuição das Ontologias para os Agentes Conversacionais (AC) no contexto de ensino-aprendizagem. Os resultados apontam que o uso das Ontologias nos ACs é promissor, pois possibilitam atuações em diferentes domínios, com diferentes métodos de interação, inclusão de aspectos de afetividade, e a necessidade de atender a requisitos não funcionais como usabilidade e performance. Apesar dos benefícios encontrados, sabe-se que é oneroso a criação das ontologias. Entretanto, destaca-se a necessidade da continuidade da pesquisa em uma abordagem prática e experimental visando buscar os limites da atuação de tais sistemas em situações reais.

Este trabalho propõe Hermes Widget, um componente que oferece o serviço de representação ontológica de contexto, baseada no padrão de sensoreamento Estímulo-Sensor-Observação. A proposta foi validada em um cenário de monitoramento de sinais vitais, com contribuição de uma equipe de Enfermagem. Os resultados obtidos destacam as contribuições quanto a padronização, expressividade e interoperabilidade do contexto gerado.

Owing to such complexity and dynamics, static notations, such as Unified Modeling Language (UML) and Systems Modeling Language (SysML), are often unable to support a precise conception, planning and design of those smart cities. The context life cycle demonstrates how context information moves around each phase into a system... more The context life cycle demonstrates how context information moves around each phase into a system, from context modeling until context dissemination. The modeling phase turns context data gathered from sensors into a higherlevel information, which in most cases is modeled through ontologies. Aiming at the building of a semantic context services infrastructure, this paper presents a systematic mapping of the state of art (2009-2015) about ontological context modelingrelated services. The aim is to ground the development of those services, especially ontology-based context representation, storage and history, as part of a broad context management system. A systematic mapping protocol is described phase by phase and concludes with macro-architectural and general design principles, quality of design attributes, and open issues, all regarding the design of ontological context services.

The context modeling phase is responsible for the representation of context information in a format which should meet IoT requirements such as expressiveness, reuse, extension and interoperability. In this paper, we present the Hermes Widget IoT service, which represents context information using the semantics of IoT-oriented ontologies such as IoT-Lite and Semantic Sensor Network (SSN). As contribution, Hermes Widget IoT allows any context provider object (e.g. a sensor) to be located, used, and have its corresponding context information represented and made available for querying through the Internet.

This data has its high relevance significantly through the application of analysis techniques and various types of applications, which aim to transform them into strategic information and knowledge. Given this scenario, this paper discusses the ecosystem that involves the management of knowledge and big data in the public health sector, with the purpose of indicating the prospects of advances in the context of smart cities projects. Com o avanço dos estudos em gestão do conhecimento, principalmente no que diz respeito área de big data, os grandes volumes de dados gerados pela saúde pública têm se tornado importantes aliados à tomada de decisões, seja em nível administrativo ou operacional. Estes dados tem sua relevância elevada significativamente através da aplicação de técnicas de análise e de diversos tipos de aplicações, que visam transformá-los em informações estratégicas e em conhecimento. Diante deste cenário, esse trabalho discute o ecossistema que envolve a gestão de conhecimento e de big data no setor da saúde pública, com o objetivo de indicar as perspectivas de avanços no contexto de projetos de cidades inteligentes.

Internet of Things is a paradigm in which sensors, actuators, devices or things seamlessly intera... more Internet of Things is a paradigm in which sensors, actuators, devices or things seamlessly interact with each other to achieve common goals. Such interaction is reachable if an expressive, interoperable and lightweight representation of context information exists. The literature has recommended ontologies as the main formalism for context information representation, but depending on the ontology being used it can be complex and heavy to run on resource-constrained devices. This paper presents a mobile service which represents context information using the emergent IoT-Lite ontology. An experiment with such service is performed in terms of time behavior and memory utilization when representing an increasing amount of data. Results demonstrate our service is lightweight if considered the amounts of time and memory spent for representing ontology-based data even in a resource-constrained device.

The methodology includes the creation of an ontology-based model for representing spatiotemporal information as well as the model validation by means of the development of an urban transportation management system for a Brazilian metropolis. The authors argue that the combined use of ontologies and Semantic Web standard specifications for interchange and query makes it easier the development of intelligent transport systems concerning homogeneous and shared semantic representation among applications.

This paper presents a Systematic Review of Literature (RSL) in order to verify the contribution o... more This paper presents a Systematic Review of Literature (RSL) in order to verify the contribution of Ontologies to Conversational Agents (CA) in the teaching-learning context. The results indicate that the use of Ontologies in CAs is promising, since they allow actions in different domains, with different methods of interaction, inclusion of aspects of affectivity, and the need to meet non functional requirements such as usability and performance. Despite the benefits found, it is known that the creation of ontologies is costly. However, it is necessary to continue the research in a practical and experimental approach to seek the limits of the performance of such systems in real situations. Resumo. Este artigo apresenta uma Revisão Sistemática da Literatura (RSL) com o objetivo de verificar a contribuição das Ontologias para os Agentes Conversacionais (AC) no contexto de ensino-aprendizagem. Os resultados apontam que o uso das Ontologias nos ACs é promissor, pois possibilitam atuações em diferentes domínios, com diferentes métodos de interação, inclusão de aspectos de afetividade, e a necessidade de atender a requisitos não funcionais como usabilidade e performance. Apesar dos benefícios encontrados, sabe-se que é oneroso a criação das ontologias. Entretanto, destaca-se a necessidade da continuidade da pesquisa em uma abordagem prática e experimental visando buscar os limites da atuação de tais sistemas em situações reais.

Este trabalho propõe Hermes Widget, um componente que oferece o serviço de representação ontológica de contexto, baseada no padrão de sensoreamento Estímulo-Sensor-Observação. A proposta foi validada em um cenário de monitoramento de sinais vitais, com contribuição de uma equipe de Enfermagem. Os resultados obtidos destacam as contribuições quanto a padronização, expressividade e interoperabilidade do contexto gerado.

A metodologia utilizada inclui a criação de um modelo ontológico com representação de informações espaçotemporais e a validação desse modelo por meio do desenvolvimento de um sistema de gerenciamento de transporte coletivo urbano de uma metrópole brasileira. Os autores defendem que a utilização de ontologias e especificações padrão de intercâmbio e consulta da Web Semântica facilita o desenvolvimento de sistemas de transporte inteligente quanto à representação semântica homogênea e compartilhada entre aplicações.

The modeling phase turns context data gathered from sensors into a higherlevel information, which in most cases is modeled through ontologies. Aiming at the building of a semantic context services infrastructure, this paper presents a systematic mapping of the state of art (2009-2015) about ontological context modelingrelated services. The aim is to ground the development of those services, especially ontology-based context representation, storage and history, as part of a broad context management system. A systematic mapping protocol is described phase by phase and concludes with macro-architectural and general design principles, quality of design attributes, and open issues, all regarding the design of ontological context services.
