Research paper thumbnail of Recursive Genetic Micro-Aggregation Technique: Information Loss, Disclosure Risk and Scoring Index

Data, 2021

This research investigates the micro-aggregation problem in secure statistical databases by integ... more This research investigates the micro-aggregation problem in secure statistical databases by integrating the divide and conquer concept with a genetic algorithm. This is achieved by recursively dividing a micro-data set into two subsets based on the proximity distance similarity. On each subset the genetic operation “crossover” is performed until the convergence condition is satisfied. The recursion will be terminated if the size of the generated subset is satisfied. Eventually, the genetic operation “mutation” will be performed over all generated subsets that satisfied the variable group size constraint in order to maximize the objective function. Experimentally, the proposed micro-aggregation technique was applied to recommended real-life data sets. Results demonstrated a remarkable reduction in the computational time, which sometimes exceeded 70% compared to the state-of-the-art. Furthermore, a good equilibrium value of the Scoring Index (SI) was achieved by involving a linear com...

2018 IEEE/ACS 15th International Conference on Computer Systems and Applications (AICCSA), 2018

We consider the problem of micro-aggregation in secure statistical databases, by enhancing the pr... more We consider the problem of micro-aggregation in secure statistical databases, by enhancing the primitive Micro-Aggregation Technique (MAT), which integrates proximity information. This problem is known to be NP-hard and has been tackled using many heuristic solutions. In this paper, we report a new two-stage multi-variate micro-aggregation technique so-called Enhanced Genetic Multi-variate Micro-Aggregation Technique (EGMMAT). It utilizes a genetic algorithm to aggregate the multi-variate micro-data. In the first stage, the micro-data file is split into a number of various domes under the flavour of Maximum Distance Average Vector (MDAV). Each dome has pre-defined size set by administrator. It is worth mentioning that the genetic operations (crossover & mutation) are continuously applied on each dome separately until the convergences condition is satisfied. The second stage of EGMMAT starts with combining all sub-groups in all domes into one huge dome, then the refinement process is achieved by applying the genetic operations in all micro-data to enhance the final results. Our experimental results, which are done on the benchmark data sets for real-life data, demonstrate that the newly proposed method is superior to the state-of-the-art by as much as 8.5%.

There is little research on improving the performance of Arabic parsers. However, recent research has shown slight improvements in the performance of dependency parsers by utilizing the lexical level of a dependency treebank. To our knowledge, no previous study has studied the effect of utilizing the syntactic level. In this study, we empirically investigated the impact of varying the set of dependency relations on the performance of Arabic dependency parsers. The results were compared to those of previous studies, and showed that having an appropriate set of dependency relations could improve the performance of an Arabic dependency parser.

The final performance of the nanocomposites for Co was highly dependent on the type and loaded amount of the oxides. The nanocomposites were characterized by standard methods and the results evidenced that the presence of CNTs hampers the growth of Fe3O4 and TiO2 particles and forming smaller nano-particles leading to better Co removal from solution. Analysis of isotherms at different temperatures indicated that Co retention was two-fold increased upon adding Ti-oxides up to 90.2%. All isotherms were fairly presented using Langmuir-Freundlich isotherm and most surfaces have high heterogeneity particularly after deposition of oxides. The combined influence of the factors was investigated by running a multivariate analysis. An empirical equation was generated by principal component analysis (PCA) for predicting Co retention assumin...

A new dataset was collected during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. We demonstrate two models: the Traditional Arabic Language (TAL) model and the Semantic Partitioning Arabic Language (SPAL) model to envisage the polarity of the collected tweets by invoking several, well-known classifiers. The extraction and allocation of numerous Arabic features, such as lexical features, writing style features, grammatical features, and emotional features, have been used to analyze and classify the collected tweets semantically. The partitioning concept was performed on the original dataset by utilizing the hidden semantic meaning between tweets in the SPAL model before invoking various classifiers. The experimentation reveals that the overall performance of the SPAL model competes over and better than the performance of the TAL model due to imposing the genuine idea of semantic pa...

Research paper thumbnail of I3rab: A New Arabic Dependency Treebank Based on Arabic Grammatical Theory

They are mainly utilized in modeling statistical parsers. Although the statistical natural language parser has recently become more accurate for languages such as English, those for the Arabic language still have low accuracy. The purpose of this article is to construct a new Arabic dependency treebank based on the traditional Arabic grammatical theory and the characteristics of the Arabic language, to investigate their effects on the accuracy of statistical parsers. The proposed Arabic dependency treebank, called I3rab, contrasts with existing Arabic dependency treebanks in two main concepts. The first concept is the approach of determining the main word of the sentence, and the second concept is the representation of the joined and covert pronouns. To evaluate I3rab, we compared its performance against a subset of Pr...

This problem, which seeks for the best partition of the micro-data file, is known to be NP-hard, and has been tackled using many heuristic solutions. In this paper, we would like to demonstrate that in the process of developing Micro-Aggregation Techniques (MATs), it is expedient to incorporate information about the dependence between the random variables in the micro-data file. This can be achieved by pre-processing the micro-data before invoking any MAT, in order to extract the useful dependence information from the joint probability distribution of the variables in the micro-data file, and then accomplishing the microaggregation on the "maximally independent" variables. Our results, on real life data sets, show that including such information will enhance the process of determining how many variables are to be used, and which of them should be used in the microaggregation process.

This paper presents results, that to the best of our knowledge is pioneering, by which concepts from causal networks are used to secure SDBs. We consider the Micro-Aggregation Problem (MAP) in secure SDBs which involves partitioning a set of individual records in a micro-data file into a number of mutually exclusive and exhaustive groups. This problem, which seeks for the best partition of the micro-data file, is known to be NP-hard, and has been tackled using many heuristic solutions. In this paper, we would like to demonstrate that in the process of developing Micro-Aggregation Techniques (MATs), it is expedient to incorporate AI-based causal information about the dependence between the random variables in the micro-data file. This can be achieved by pre-processing the micro-data before invoking any MAT, in order to extract the useful dependence information from the joint probability distribution of the variables in the micro-data file, and then accomplishing the microaggregation on the "maximally independent" variables. Our results, on artificial life data sets, show that including such information will enhance the process of determining how many variables are to be used, and which of them should be used in the microaggregation process.

In addition, the Sound biometric techniques can enable PVS to listen and understand their surrounding auditory environment since turning the lights on all the nights will get through a lot of energy which it might be used in other significant concerns. This paper proposed a model of combination between PVS to generate power energy (electricity) from the sunlight controlled by a sound biometric technique to reduce the consumption of the generated power energy by turning the lights on for the highways only when there are cars on the highway and only for some period of time to make the driving out of harmful ways and trouble-free; followed by an implementation of the proposed combination model between the PVS and biometric sound chip and a presentation of a discussion of the proposed system results.
