The first attempt to date the early linguistic contacts of Proto-Turkic and Chinese languages was made by A.V. Dybo, but it was based on outdated readings of Chinese characters and should be revised. The new dating is 6th - 7th centuries AD. It correlates with the historically recorded date of the first contacts of the Chinese with the Proto-Turks of Ashina tribe. Together with the dating of the first contacts of the Proto-Turkic language with Proto-Mongolian, also defined as the 6th-7th century AD, this excludes the presence of Proto-Turks in areas lying north of China before the 6th century and put an end to the theory of the Turkic origin of the Xiongnu.

We show that information on the time delay between a soliton and a probe pulse can be extracted by analyzing the probe pulse spectral density distribution. This information can be used to measure timing jitter in a soliton communication systems. derived. Numerical results are presented for the cutoff wavenumbers of the dominant mode as well as the higher-order modes supported in the rounded-side rectangular waveguide.
