The importance of competences in the language(s) of schooling for equity and quality in education and for educational success

In the context of the Council of Europe´s major project “Languages in/for Schooling” and its ini-... more In the context of the Council of Europe´s major project “Languages in/for Schooling” and its ini-tiative to develop a framework for describing the disciplinary aspects of the language of school-ing, a German group of experts undertook a preliminary analysis of curricular documents from five German Laender (Berlin, Hamburg, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Sachsen, Thüringen) reaching across primary and lower secondary education and covering a broad spectrum of subjects. De-signed as a pilot study it was intended to explore and evaluate procedures for analysing curricu-lar documents and for the processing and interpretation of the respective data as well as the prevailing use of operators to define curricular standards.
