In this paper I identify similarities and differences between forms and functioning of phatic gre... more In this paper I identify similarities and differences between forms and functioning of phatic greetings in terms of nominative andcommunicative meaning in two unrelated languages - Georgian and English on the empirical material of 20th and 21st century Georgian and English literature. By using descriptive, contrastive, qualitative research methods in synchronous aspect we got very interesting result which shows that Georgian and English languages have the same amount of forms of phatic greeting; they are absolutely similar in communicative meaning and only some forms differ in nominative meaning. One obvious example is a main word Hello, with which the Englishman wishes health, a whole life to a listener, while Georgians wish their communicators victory with a main greeting phrase გამარჯობა (gamarjoba). Most kinds of forms of phatic greetings in both languages apply to positive politeness strategies.

Technology has an important influence on the way many people learn today and has certain benefits... more Technology has an important influence on the way many people learn today and has certain benefits. The aim of the paper is to show that only existence of new technologies and equipment isn't sufficient for successful learning process and developing transferrable skills of learners. A number of factors are involved in determining whether and how technology should be integrated into the classroom and how likely it is to impact positively on learner motivation Among them are digital storytelling using Animoto and Kaltura, also using technologies such as virtual and augmented reality, Learning Management System(LMS), online apps such as kahoot, quizlet, mentimeter, padlet and others. However, successful, motivating use of technology depends on teachers and learners knowing how to realize its affordances. In this paper I used descriptive, qualitative method and resulted in that, teachers need to act as a learner, a leader, a citizen, a collaborator, a designer, a facilitator and an analyst to use technology productively in teaching process. As for learners, they need to know the following skills:

Phatic communication is a kind of communication which does not serve to exchange factual informat... more Phatic communication is a kind of communication which does not serve to exchange factual information but to establish warm and friendly atmosphere. It provides successful communication among interlocutors, especially foreigners. Although English and Georgian languages are not kindred ones, they reveal a lot of similarities in concept and usage of phatic invitations-one of the eight groups of phatic expressions. Examples of English phatic invitations are: "I'd like to ask you to; It would be my pleasure if you would; May I have the honor of you; Do you fancy/Fancy…; Here you go; Here you are". Georgian equivalents are: გთხოვთ გვესტუმრეთ (Please visit us), გთხოვთ მობრძანდით (Please come to), and გეპატიჟებით! (We are inviting you to). In case of unplanned invitation, Georgians use phatic expressions: ხომ არ გვესტუმრებოდით (ამოხვიდოდით)? (Wouldn't you visit (come up)?; ხომ არ მიირთმევთ? (Wouldn't you help yourself?); დაგვეწვიეთ (Join us with our meal); გვინახულეთ (Come to see us), etc. Of particular interest are the expressions: სტუმარი ღვთისაა (Guest is from God!); აქა მშვიდობა (May peace be here). They refer to Georgian hospitality and strive for peace. Georgian phatic invitations stand out with more variety and expressiveness. In both languages, nominative meaning of expressions is inviting listeners, while communicative meaning is showing politeness and respect.
