This research focuses on the Sedati mud volcano area, Sidoarjo with a research area of 500x400 meters. Measurement of gravity method data with 88 points spaced 50 meters to determine the value of rock density and subsurface structure of Sedati mud volcano area. From the data that has been obtained, data processing is carried out to obtain a map of the distribution of regional and residual gravity anomaly values. From the anomaly data, 3D inversion was carried out to obtain a map of the subsurface structure. The 3D gravity inversion modelling results show that there is high density rock block which is interpreted as a basin that holds the reservoir from the mud volcano. Near the surface and around the mudflow in the study area, the distribution of low density is caused by the presence of mud content. There is a possibility that there is a fault zone with a west-eas...

As a result, the number of vehicles is increasing, which causes an abundance of particulates on the urban topsoil. Motor vehicle particulates can be identified through the value of magnetic susceptibility. The greater the magnetic susceptibility value on the topsoil, the more magnetic minerals are associated with the number of particulates produced by vehicles. To zone the value of magnetic susceptibility in an area, a clustering method is needed. In this study, magnetic susceptibility zoning analysis was conducted using the K-mean cluster method. The data processing results on 38 samples divided into three clusters showed that 12 samples were in cluster 1, 23 samples were in cluster 2, and 3 samples were in cluster 3. The samples in each cluster were influenced by the magnetic susceptibility value between the sample centre and the neighbouring samples. The validation of the clustering results is sh...

The aim of this study is characterization of electrical properties at plantation fires at Liang Anggang village, Banjar Regency in South Kalimantan, Indonesia. The geo-electric resistivity of Wenner-Schlumberger configuration was conducted in field with 1 meter electrode spacing. The result of resistivity section which the length is 52 meter varies from 149 to 1436 ohmmeter. In the surface from 0 to 5 meter is higher resistivity (1039 – 1436 ohmmeter) and the lower 5 m is lower resistivity (149 – 752 ohmmeter). Resistivity of plantation fires has high resistivity, because there are many organic matters and less water content moreover those impacts up to 5 meter the depth.

The hydrocarbon spills are generally recognized as Light Non-Aqueous Phase Liquids (LNAPL) if the plume of leakage is distributed in the capillary fringe above the water table and as Dense Non-Aqueous Phase Liquids (DNAPL) if it is below the water table. GPR antennas of 200 MHz and 400 MHz were deployed to obtain clear radargrams until 4 m deep. In general, the interpreted radargram sections indicate the presence of surface concrete layer, the compacted silty soill followed by sand layer and the original clayey soil as well as the water table. The presence of hydrocarbon plumes are identified as shadow zones (radar velocity and intensity contrasts) in the radargram that blur the layering pattern with different intensity of reflected signal. Based on our results, the characteristic of the shadow zones in the radargram is controlled by several factors: types of hydrocarbon (fresh or bio-degraded), water moisture in the soil, and clay content which contribute variation in electrical conductivity and dielectric constants of the soil.

The main advantages of these methods are their simplicity and non-destructiveness as well as their low cost. In this study, we test the effectiveness of rock magnetic methods in delineating soil horizons in highly magnetic volcanic soil. A soil outcrop in Lembang, West Java is used as a test bed. Samples were taken in duplicate at an interval of about 10 cm from the 3 meters outcrop. At the site, soil horizons are clearly defined based on their colorations and textures. A series of magnetic methods, in the form of bulk magnetic and frequency-dependent susceptibility measurements as well as measurement of anhysteretic remanent magnetization, were conducted on all samples. The results show that magnetic properties, especially bulk magnetic susceptibility correlate well with soil horizons. The three visually distinct horizons possess distinctive magnetic properties. As they are being used continuously over a long period of time, they accumulate as residues in soils posing serious threats to the environment. In this study, we study the changes in magnetite-rich volcanic soils that were deliberately contaminated by pesticide. Such changes, in any, would be useful in the detection of pesticide residue in contaminated soils. Two different types of magnetically strong volcanic soil from the area near Lembang, West Java, Indonesia were used in this study where they were contaminated with varying concentrations of pesticide. The samples were then measured for magnetic susceptibility at two different frequencies. The measurements were then repeated after a period of three months. We found a reduction of magnetic susceptibility as well as a reduction in SP (superparamagnetic) grains proportion in contaminated soil. These might be caused by pesticide-induced magnetic dissolution as supported by SEM analyses. However the impact of pesticide concentration as well as exposure time on magnetic dissolution is still inconclusive.

The first experiment was conducted in the laboratory to test the germination of magnetized and non-magnetized seeds on different growing mediums. The second experiment was conducted in a screenhouse using Randomised Blocked Design with the treatments of exposure of magnetic field (0 and 0.2 mT) and AMF (Glomus sp., Gigaspora sp. and Combination of Glomus sp. and Gigaspora sp.). Both treatments were applied as pre-sowing seed treatments. Results revealed the exposure of seeds to magnetic fields increased the seedling germination percentage, especially in the treatments combined with Gigaspora sp. (90%). Further measurement of plant heights showed that magnetized seeds consistently showed a higher plant height compared to non-magnet treatments. Gigaspora sp. which applied either as single or in mixture with Glomus spp. have shown better effect than Gigaspora sp. alone on the growth of tomatoes
