In this study, nitinol and steel wire core hybrid yarns were produced from wires having two diffe... more In this study, nitinol and steel wire core hybrid yarns were produced from wires having two different diameters and used as warp yarns to weave 3D woven fabrics in two different fabric constructions. The steel bars with two different diameters were placed into the gaps between fabric layers to create a hollow form after fabric production. The fabrics produced with cold-worked nitinol wire were exposed to heat treatments at high temperatures to provide them shape memory property according to data obtained from DSC analysis. Conventional textile fibers are not durable to these temperatures; for this reason, carbon fiber was used both as sheath material of hybrid yarns and additionally as warp and weft carbon fiber yarns. All yarn and fabric tests were carried out simultaneously to evaluate the mechanical properties of nitinol and steel wire core hybrid yarns, and wire-reinforced fabrics. The goal of this study is to investigate the relation of self-esteem, hopelessness and communicat... more The goal of this study is to investigate the relation of self-esteem, hopelessness and communication skill; while testing self-esteem as an intermediary variable. The research, designed in survey model, has been conducted with preschool teacher candidates. The research group comprises 305 teacher candidates that volunteered for the research. According to the findings of the research, teacher candidates’ self-esteem is negatively correlated with their level of hopelessness and positively correlated with their communication skills. On the other hand, the relation between their level of hopelessness and communication skill is a negative correlation. According to the results of regression analysis, hopelessness, along with self-esteem, explain 31.6% of communication skill. We report a case of a 3-year-old boy who administered sugammadex and developed an allergic reacti... more We report a case of a 3-year-old boy who administered sugammadex and developed an allergic reaction several minutes after the administration. He developed an increase in airway pressures and a decrease in peripheral oxygen saturation; auscultation revealed widespread wheezing in the lungs. He was successfully treated with immediate administration of methylprednisolone, pheniramine, and theophylline. We assumed an allergic reaction to sugammadex based on the clinical condition of the patient.

To compare elastosonography and digital examination of cervix for consistency in the prediction o... more To compare elastosonography and digital examination of cervix for consistency in the prediction of successful vaginal delivery. A total of 64 pregnant women with the indication of induction of labor (IOL) were enrolled to the study. The uterine cervix is evaluated before and after the IOL with elastosonography and digital examination for consistency and sonography for length. Methods were compared in regard to the prediction of successful vaginal delivery. The median of gestational age was 41.00 (IQR = 2.32). Out of 64 participants, 40 (62.5%) had vaginal delivery and 24 (37.5%) had cesarean delivery. The preinduction and postinduction elastosonographic indices were insignificant in delivery groups. The preinduction and postinduction evaluations of cervical consistency with digital examination were significant within vaginal delivery group (p = 0.046), whereas it was insignificant within cesarean delivery group and between the delivery groups. The preinduction and postinduction Bishop scores were significant within vaginal delivery group (p = 0.005), whereas it was insignificant within cesarean delivery group and between the delivery groups. Postinduction Bishop score was significant between the delivery groups. Evaluation of cervix for consistency with either elastosonography or digital examination was found to be insignificant in prediction of successful vaginal delivery after IOL with oxytocin.

Preeclampsia is a serious disease and a leading cause of maternal and perinatal mortality and mor... more Preeclampsia is a serious disease and a leading cause of maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity. Red blood cell distribution width (RDW), a measure of anisocytosis, is used as an inflammation marker in hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. Although the relationship between RDW and hypertension has been well documented, the association between preeclampsia and RDW is not clear. We aimed to investigate the relationship between RDW and preeclampsia and its severity. One hundred eighteen pregnant women with preeclampsia and one hundred twenty uncomplicated pregnant women were included in the study. Blood samples for routine CBC and RDW levels were analyzed. The RDW values were significantly higher in preeclampsia group compared with the control group (15.23±1.96 vs 14.48±1.70, p<0.05). We also confirmed that RDW levels were significantly higher in severe preeclampsia group than mild preeclampsia group in subgroup analyses (15.08±2.07, 15.92±1.99, p<0.05). Our study showed that there is an association between RDW and preeclampsia and also its severity. RDW, a marker which is easy, inexpensive and calculated as a part of blood cell count, can be used as a significant diagnostic and prognostic marker in patient with preeclampsia like the other cardiovascular diseases.

The aim of the research is to examine the relationship between the intelligence test scores, thei... more The aim of the research is to examine the relationship between the intelligence test scores, their attitudes towards learning and their grade point average of preschool prospective teachers. Relational screening model was carried out. The participants includes 350 prospective teachers who study at Department of Early Childhood Education of Marmara University. The data was gathered by two instruments; Cattell Intelligence Test-Form 3A and Attitudes Towards Learning Scale developed by Kara (2010). The results indicate that there is no significant differences on preschool prospective teachers’ attitudes towards learning according to the their grade levels, however, “expectancy” and “openness” subcategory scores of the attitudes towards learning test significantly differ by academic achievement. Özet Araştırmanın amacı okul öncesi dönemde çocuğu olan annelerin kabul-red düzeyleri ile sosyal ... more Özet Araştırmanın amacı okul öncesi dönemde çocuğu olan annelerin kabul-red düzeyleri ile sosyal davranış denetimleri arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemektir. İlişkisel tarama modelinde tasarlanan araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, 2013-2014 eğitim öğretim yılında İstanbul’da seçkisiz küme örnekleme yöntemiyle seçilen okul öncesi eğitim kurumlarına devam eden ve araştırmaya katılmaya gönüllü olan 739 çocuğun (404 devlet-335 özel anaokulu öğrencisi) annesi oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak Kişisel Bilgi Formu, Aile Çocuk İlişkileri Ölçeği-Anne Formu ve Aile Sosyal Davranış Denetim Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonuçları, çalışma grubunu oluşturan annelerin, çocuklarına karşı yüksek düzeyde kabul ve davranış denetimi sergilemekte olduğunu göstermiştir. Yaş grubu küçük olan çocukların kabul edilme düzeylerinin ve sergiledikleri davranışlara yönelik denetimin daha yüksek olduğu ve genel olarak kabul düzeyi arttıkça annelerin de sosyal davranış denetim düzeylerinin doğru orantılı olarak arttığı görülmüştür. Abstract The aim of the study is to examine the relationship between the maternal acceptance-rejection levels and social behavior control of children in preschool period. The study group includes 739 mothers who have children attend preschools (404 children from public preschools and 335 children from private preschools). The study group was selected by random cluster sampling method. Relational screening model was carried out. Personal Information Form; Parental Acceptance-Rejection Questionnaire (Mother Form) and the Social Behavior Control Instrument were used to collect data. The results of the study indicate that the participant mothers indicate high level of maternal acceptance and social behavior control towards their children. Furthermore, the results indicate that the mothers of younger children show higher acceptance and social behavior control than mothers who have older children. Also, it was found that the social behavior control of mothers increase by the level of acceptance level.

In this study, the benthic life in Göcek Bay was investigated by means of visual underwater obser... more In this study, the benthic life in Göcek Bay was investigated by means of visual underwater observations within the framework of a research programme implemented by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. Göcek Bay is a part of “Fethiye-Göcek Specially Protected Area (SPA)” located at the south-western coast of Turkey, where the Mediterranean Sea and Aegean Sea connect to each other. The bay is also one of the most popular and heavily exploited yachting base consisting four marinas with a total capacity of 800 yachts and several anchoring sites along the shores of the bay. Throughout the SCUBA and skin diving sessions, observed macro-benthic species were recorded either by photography or video. The dives were ranged from the shoreline down to the depth of 40 m. In the analysis of the data obtained from direct identifications with bare eyes, the snapshots or the video recordings, a total of 112 species were recorded. Considerable differences on the frequencies of the mitochondrial 12S rRNA A1555G and tRNA(Ser(UCN... more Considerable differences on the frequencies of the mitochondrial 12S rRNA A1555G and tRNA(Ser(UCN)) A7445G mutations have been reported in different populations. Our screening of 168 patients coming from independent Turkish families with prelingual sensorineural non-syndromic deafness revealed three deaf children with A1555G (1.8%) but no examples of A7445G. One proband with the mitochondrial A1555G mutation has also evidence for right parietal infarct on a brain imaging study, for which common thrombotic mutations were found to be negative. This study shows that the mitochondrial A1555G mutation is among the significant causes of prelingual non-syndromic deafness in the Turkish population.
