The aim of present study was evaluation protective effect of Sambucus extract on albendazole induced- fetal malformation. Four groups of female pregnant Wistar rats (8 rats each group) were used. One group received normal saline (as control group). A single oral dose 30 mg/kg of albendazole was administered to rats on day 10 of gestation in group2. Rats in group3 received albendazole similar group2 and Sambucus extract at dose 600mg/kg. Rats in group4 received only Sambucus extract on day 10 of gestation. The rats were euthanatized on day 20 of gestation. The fetuses were harvested and their weight and length and also the weight of placenta were measured. The skeletal malformation of fetus was studied by stereomicroscope after staining by Alizarin red - Alcian blue. The length and weight of fetuses were significantly decreased by albendazole but Sambucus extract prevent this effect. In group tha...

One its side effect is teratogenicity. This effect apparently is related to its metabolites especially albendazole sulfoxid. The aim of present study was evaluation effect of erythromycin (as enzyme inhibitor in biotransformation) on albendazole biotransformation and consequently fetal malformation. Materials and Methods: Four groups of female pregnant wistar rats (8 rats each group) were used. First group received normal saline (as control group). A single oral dose 30 mg/kg of albendazole was administered to rats on day 10 of gestation in group 2. Rats in group 3 received albendazole similar group 2 and erythromycin at dose 60 mg/kg. Rats in group 4 received only erythromycin on day 10 of gestation. The rats were euthanatized on day 20 of gestation. The skeletal malformation of fetus was studied by stereom...

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is the first line Assisted Reproduction Treatment (ART) modality for infertile couples because this method is inexpensive and non-invasive, which is effective for the treatment of couples with unexplained infertility or patient with normal or mild male factor. Two methods, mainly considered as laboratory techniques for improving the quality of sperm, includes Swim-Up (SU) and Density Gradient Centrifugation (DGC). The SU is a common technique in IVF labs, and is mainly performed in a sample of semen having normal sperm concentration. In this technique, sperms are selected based on their motility and their capacity to leave the semen plasma. In the DGC method, sperms are selected based on the density, motile sperm are separated from dead sperms, leukocytes and other high-density semen plasmatic compounds. The aim o...

Meta-analyses were carried out with respect to efficacy and tolerability by combining outcome and adverse reaction from over 20 controlled trials comparing lofepramine with other tricyclic antidepressants. Lofepramine was at least as effective as the comparators with fewer adverse effects. In particular, the risk/benefit ratio seemed superior to the comparators amitriptyline, imipramine, clomipramine, maprotiline and desipramine.

Besides, there is some evidence that the effect apparently is related to its active metabolite, albendazole sulfoxide. So, erythromycin is the choice to inhibit metabolizing enzymes. On the other hand, free radicals have an important role in teratogenic effect. For this reason, the Sambucus ebulus extract as an antioxidant agent was selected for this study. Methods: This study was performed on 42 pregnant rats divided into six groups. Control group received oral normal saline and test groups received albendazole (30 mg/kg/oral), albendazole (30 mg/kg/oral) plus Sambucus ebulus extract (600 mg/kg/intraperitoneal), albendazole (30 mg/kg/oral) plus erythromycin (60 mg/kg/intraperitoneal), erythromycin (60 mg/kg/intraperitoneal), and Sambucus ebulus extract (600 mg/kg/intraperitoneal), respectively. All drug administered on 9 to 11 days of gestation. On 20th day of gestation, placenta were...
