Both models are lane-based analytical models based on gap acceptance theory with an empirical basis, and both models use Cowan's bunched exponential distribution of circulating road headways. On the other hand, the two models use different capacity and headway distribution equations, and they are calibrated for different traffic conditions in two different countries. Comparisons of entry lane capacity estimates from the two models for one-lane and for two-lane roundabouts are presented. Analyses indicated that the entry lane capacities at one-lane roundabouts in Poland are lower but close to those in Australia whereas the entry lane capacities at two-lane roundabouts in Poland are much lower than those in Australia. Calibrating the SIDRA Standard model using data for 21 one-lane roundabouts and 12 two-lane roundabouts resulted in capacity estimates with very good match to driving conditions in Poland.

On the basis of these operations, vague soft topology is defined. Pairwise vague soft open sets and pairwise vague soft closed sets are defined in vague soft bitopological structures (VSBTS). Moreover, generalized vague soft open sets are introduced in VSBTS concerning soft points of the space. On the basis of generalized vague soft open sets, separation axioms are also introduced. In continuation, these separations axioms are engaged with other important results in VSBTS.

This paper aims to identify and compare the impacts of a selection of socio-economic, travel-related, and built environment variables on walking likelihood and respondents’ sensitivity to the walking distance, both for discretionary and mandatory trips. The analysis drew its origin from 14,463 responses acquired through an extensive travel survey conducted in the city of Qazvin, Iran. The estimated binary logit coefficients show people’s heterogeneity in the walking behavior for discretionary and mandatory trips. The results report a higher likelihood of walking on mandatory trips at almost all distances than the discretionary ones. Furthermore, investigating individual heterogeneity in different trip distances reveals that people aged less than 14 are more likely to choose walking on mandatory trip...

Compared to other road units, the curvilinear elements of roundabout geometric design may impose greater constraints on vehicular trajectories and have a significant effect on the swept envelope of heavy vehicles. Specifically, the aim of the paper is to present the methodological approach which used traffic microsimulation to estimate PCEs. Focus is made on a case study which considered the conversion of a two-lane roundabout into a basic turbo roundabout with comparable size. Empirical capacity functions for both roundabouts were derived as target values to which simulated capacities by lane were compared. In order to estimate the PCEs a criterion of equivalence based on the amount of capacity used by cars and heavy vehicles is presented. AIMSUN allowed to simulate traffic conditions with different percentages of heavy vehicles at both roundabouts. Thus, variation of traffic conditions where mixed fleets operate was explored. A comparison was made between the PCEs estimated for each entry lane characterized by similar mechanism of entry maneuver. The results indicated there is a need to distinguish the impact of heavy vehicles when operational performance of a two-lane roundabout or a turbo-roundabout should be examined. Especially when circulating flows increase, a higher PCE value is expected than the value that the Highway Capacity Manual proposes for roundabouts.

The goal of smart cities and sustainable transport is to ensure the efficient movement of people ... more The goal of smart cities and sustainable transport is to ensure the efficient movement of people while minimizing a negative impact on the environment. Many cities around the world conduct a policy aimed at limiting parking spaces; however, the complete elimination of parking spaces in cities currently does not seem possible. Parking vehicles cause disturbances in road traffic by searching for a parking space and performing the parking maneuver. This article analyzes the impact of the parking maneuver on the capacity of the inlets of intersections with traffic lights, and the significance of the time it takes to enter and exit a parking space on road traffic disturbance areas under Polish conditions. The research is carried out in on-street parking, characterized by different positions of the parking space to the road, the different surfaces of parking spaces, and the geometry of the road next to which the parking spaces are located. Differences in the time of entry to and exit from...

One of the factors influencing the functioning of PPZ is efficient traffic management in the area of PPZ based on reliable traffic measurements and analysis of parking characteristics. The parking characteristics vary with time, i.e. during the day, week, month, and year. The variability of parking characteristics is influenced by many factors, i.a.: the location of parking spaces, the presence of a parking fee and its amount, providing drivers with information about empty parking spaces, etc. The article aimed to analyze the variability of parking characteristics in a weekly schedule under the operating conditions of PPZ and Dynamic Parking Information (DPI). The conducted statistical tests show that the distribution of the value of the use of parking space and the rotation indicator differ between working days and weekend days. In the case of the distribution of the value of the use of parking space between working days, there are no statistical differences, while the distribution of the rotation indicator differs statistically on particular working days. The analysis was performed as a part of research work entitled "Analysis of parking characteristics in the conditions of SPP and DIP functioning in selected areas of GZM cities".

Efficient and developed transport infrastructure of various modes of transport significantly affects the availability of transport services, and consequently, the well-being of citizens. This article presents an analysis of the volume of passengers and cargo transport using rail and road transport in Poland in 2009-2019. These analyses were carried out based on data obtained from the Central Statistical Office. All data concerns Polish entities that provide services in the field of passenger and freight transport in Poland and focuses on such information as the volume of passengers and cargo by individual means of transport, broken down into domestic and international transport. Further, the presented analyses concern the length of the available rail and road routes, tracks, the size of the rolling stock as well as the groups of transported loads.

The paper presents a comparative analysis in terms of studies connected with determination of critical headways for drivers of vehicles at the entries of single-lane roundabouts, two-lane roundabouts and turbo roundabouts.

The set of queries obtained, forming Big Data, may constitute a major source of information for local authorities and a means to support making decisions on changes leading to adaptation of the area of a city or of a region to the inhabitants’ needs. The procedure in question is based on a tool developed under the Green Travelling project.

The scope of activities within ITS systems includes road traffic management, demand management, support for management of public transportation, information for passengers, management of vehicles’ fleet, management of incidents and support for rescue teams, advanced technologies inside vehicles and problems of electronic payments and collection of tolls. The ITS applications necessitates development of a strategic basis that regulates the principles of design, implementation and decision-making. Such a basis is provided by ITS architecture. This paper presents the standardization requirements and the structure of services in terms of ITS, discusses the organizational questions concerning architecture and presents current state in terms of developmen...

Abstract Forecasts pertaining to urban freight transport and international freight transport in t... more Abstract Forecasts pertaining to urban freight transport and international freight transport in the European Union unanimously imply that, within at least the next thirty years, the main indicator of functionality and growth will be dynamic supply chains, as they are commonly referred to, where logistics centres supported by almost infinite possibilities of new e-technologies will play the most crucial part. Owing to industrial tradition and well-developed transport infrastructure, including primarily the most densely built network of high-class roads in the country and fast road connections with central Poland as well as neighboring countries, the territory of Silesian Province has become an important warehousing market of all-Polish and Central-Eastern European relevance. Identifying the trends observed in the development of freight transport logistics within the territory in question is the first step towards improvement of the current state of matters. It also provided grounds to perform one of tasks defined under the international S-mile project implemented within the framework of the ERANET Transport III “Sustainable Logistics and Supply Chain” programme. This article is mainly an attempt to review results of the analyses undertaken in this scope, including those pertaining to the specificity of the existing infrastructure and the projected development of the logistic infrastructure in Silesian Province along with orientations of its development proposed in strategic documents of both national and regional level, such as the Silesian Province development strategy, development plans, concepts, forecasts as well as projects concerning transport and freight transport logistics. Some results of accessibility analysis of the logistics centres currently operating in Silesian Province have also been presented.
