This work investigates the use of audio-visual aided instruction in the teaching and learning of ... more This work investigates the use of audio-visual aided instruction in the teaching and learning of Chemistry in Senior Secondary Schools in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State. A descriptive survey was employed. The population of the study comprises of Nine Hundred and Twenty (920) Chemistry Students and Teachers. Sample size of 220 comprising 20 teachers and 200 students from 10 selected secondary schools was employed. The instrument for data collection was questionnaire. The data were analyzed using frequency table and percentage. The findings revealed that few audio-visual materials like posters, pictures, chalkboard and models are used for chemistry teaching and learning. Other ones like computer with internet services, projectors and so on are neither available nor utilized. It was however, recommended that the Government, school managers and stakeholders, parents and caregivers should ensure that they provide necessary facilities for effective teaching and teachers should ...
The study sought to determine the level of adequacy of practical and content coverage in science ... more The study sought to determine the level of adequacy of practical and content coverage in science and technology education sandwich programmes of Kogi State College of Education, Ankpa. A total of 42 academic staff responded to a three section questionnaire of 4 points liker scale. It was validated by four experts in the field of science and technology education and then trial tested. Using split half method and Spearman Brown prophecy formula, a reliability coefficient of 0.68 was obtained. The data for answering the two research questions and to test the hypothesis were analyzed. The result revealed that there was poor practical and content coverage of science and technology education sandwich programmes of Kogi State College of Education Ankpa. Similarly, the relationship between the lecturers’ rating on practical and content coverage was significant. This study examined the predictive power of two selection examination scores on Senior School Cer... more This study examined the predictive power of two selection examination scores on Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) result of pre-degree science students of Benue State University Makurdi-Nigeria with a view to seeking alternative to multiple selection examinations. Out of 1240 candidates that came in for Preliminary Science programme for 2007/2008 session, only 380 passed (that is, a minimum of C grade in the five subjects -- English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics). Of this number, 220 had records for Mathematics and Physics in SSCE and therefore form the sample for the study and total of 38 entered for UME Mathematics. Three standard examination results in Mathematics and Physics were used for analysis in this study with SSCE as dependent (criterion) variable and Prelim and UME scores as independent (predictor) variables.
