In PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital year 2010-2011, there were 744 childbirths with 105 of them asphyxia... more In PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital year 2010-2011, there were 744 childbirths with 105 of them asphyxiated. The first impact of the occurrence of asphyxia of newborns is that it can cause respiratory acidosis. If the disturbance continues, anaerobic metabolism will occur in the form of glycogen glycolysis body. Organic acid caused by this metabolism will result in the onset of metabolic acidosis. At the next level, cardiovascular changes will occur that will cause brain ischemia. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlations between the duration of second stage childbirth with the occurrence of asphyxia on newborn baby in PKU Muhammadiyah hospital Yogyakarta year 2010-2011. This study uses analytic method with retrospective time approach. The sampling technique used purposive sampling by selecting medical records of mothers aged 20-35 years, not gemeli, not KPD and childbirth with the back of the head presentation without vacuum extraction treatment with the numbers of 95 medical records. The data collecting used a check list. The results of the study in PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Yogyakarta in 2010-2011 showed that the occurence of asphyxia in newborns baby are mostly moderate asphyxia by 52 (54.7%), mild asphyxia by 26 (27.4%) and severe asphyxia by 17 (17, 9%). The results of the analysis with the chi-square test is that the chi-square values obtained is 7.513 and 0.023 for the p sig. Because the value of p <0.05, it can be concluded that there is a statistically significant correlations between the duration of second stage childbirth with the occurrence of asphyxia on newborn baby in PKU Muhammadiyah hospital Yogyakarta year 2010-2011. In accordance with the results of the study, mothers are advised to increase ANC motivation and to frequently check their pregnancy to health care so to prevent the cause of the duration of second stage childbirth which impacted in the occurrence of asphyxia. Dampak terjadinya asfiksia pada BBL yaitu dapat menyebabkan asidosis respiratorik. Bila gangguan berlanjut akan terjadi proses metabolisme anaerobik berupa glikolosis glikogen tubuh. Asam organik yang terjadi akibat metabolisme ini akan mengakibatkan timbulnya asidosis metabolik. Pada tingkat selanjutnya akan terjadi perubahan kardiovaskuler yang akan menyebabkan ischemia otak. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan lama persalinan kala II dengan kejadian asfiksia di RSU PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta tahun 2010-2011. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analitikdangan pendekatan waktu retrospektif. Pengambilan sampel dengan purposive sampling yaitu dengan memilih rekam medis Ibu yang berusia antara 20 – 35 tahun, tidak gemeli, tidak KPD dan persalinan dengan presentasi belakang kepala serta tanpa tindakan vakum ekstraksi yang berjumlah 95 rekam medis.
