In particular we obtain that rings strongly graded either by a polycyclic-by-finite group, or by an abelian group of finite torsion free rank are Jacobson rings in case the identity component is a left Noetherian Jacobson ring. For monoid rings R[S] of abelian monoids of finite rank the same result holds without R being left Noetherian.

In particular, we show that, for any submonoidSof the semigroupMnof all monomialn × nmatrices over a polycyclic-by-finite groupG, K[S]is right Noetherian if and only ifSsatisfies the ascending chain condition on right ideals. This is then used to prove that every prime homomorphic image of a semigroup algebra of a finitely generated Malcev nilpotent semigroupSsatisfying the ascending chain condition on right ideals is left and right Noetherian.

As an application we study when such semigroup rings are semilocal or local. In the final section we show that the results on the Jacobson radical are also valid for other concrete radicals.
