The electrochemical insertion of lithium ions into the spinel NiCo 2 O 4 prepared by thermal deco... more The electrochemical insertion of lithium ions into the spinel NiCo 2 O 4 prepared by thermal decomposition of carbonates and by sol-gel process has been studied. The galvanostatic discharge curves show that the best performance is obtained for sol-gel preparation. The oxides have been characterized by XRD, surface area, OCV and XPS measurements. The effect of preparation method on the electrochemical lithium insertion is discussed in terms of thermodynamical and kinetical properties. The preparation of spinel oxide host by sol-gel seems very promising.
