Adsorption Science & Technology

Heavy metal wastewater pollution has become an environmental and industrial challenge worldwide. ... more Heavy metal wastewater pollution has become an environmental and industrial challenge worldwide. Hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) is one of the most common forms of chromium metal. Hexavalent chromium pollution is a concern because it was hazardous and can accumulate in the tissues of living organisms and the environment. The adsorption method using activated carbon can be one of the methods to treat hexavalent chromium waste. This study selected Samanea saman as the activated carbon because it contains hemicellulose, lignocellulose, and lignin, which are the requirements for an excellent activated carbon. The study’s objective is to analyze Samanea saman activated carbon (SSAC) to remove hexavalent chromium, measure the adsorption capacity, and determine the appropriate type of adsorption isotherm layer based on the maximum R 2 and minimum χ 2 values. The process of making activated carbon was activated using K2CO3 through a pyrolysis process and using batch adsorption. The SEM results...

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of various types of adhesives are tapioca, sago, lacquers and latex to time in the manufacture of fuel briquettes from the rind bintaro. Briquetting is carried out with a composition of 80% charcoal briquettes and type of adhesive respectively 20%. The results showed that the briquettes from the skin bintaro complies with SNI where the addition of starch adhesive obtained the best conditions, the water content of 1.91%, ash content of 7.35%, 15.34% levels of substance evaporates, 72 minute burn time and value kalornya 6000.46 calories / gram

Plastic waste is waste that is very difficult to decompose and takes a long time to spoil. Plastic bottle caps are a type of polypropylene (PP) plastic which is recommended to be used only once. The research objective was to determine the effect of particle size on the briquette characteristics of plastic bottles based on the proximate analysis. The proximate analysis carried out was moisture content, ash content, volatile matter, fixed carbon, and calorific value. The research design used was a burning temperature of 450 °C, a burning time of 60 minutes, and particle sizes of 40, 60, and 100 mesh. The results showed that the particle size of 40 mesh had the best characteristics, namely water content of 0.5±0,05%, ash content of 2±0,25%, volatile matter content of 15±0,51%, bound carbon content of 82.5±0,32%, and a heating value of 9,982.779±240,017 cal/gram. Based on the results of the proximate analysis, it can be concluded that a particle size of 40 mesh can improve the quality of briquettes compared to 100 mesh.

One of sewage treatment is to make alternative fuel bio charcoal briquettes. The purpose of this study is to make charcoal briquettes bio mixture of durian's peel and banana's peel that are standards SNI 01-6235-2000. The research method was conducted by the pyrolysis process at a temperature of 300˚C for 2.5 hours and conduct proximate analysis on bio charcoal briquettes with variations in raw material composition and particle size. The results ahowed that the calorific value of briquettes charcoal composition is 80% durian's peel, 10% banana's peel, and 10% tapioca adhesive is the highest, amounting to 5,348.697 kcal/kg at 100 meshes and 4,779.389 kcal/kg at 80 meshes. Ffrom the test results obtained the experiment entrusted to the optimum on mix composition of bio briquette charcoal 80% durian's peel, 10% banana's peel, and 10% tapioca adhesive at 100 meshes on the water content of 7.8%, ash content of 8.49%, and volatile matter content of 10.58%.

Plastic is waste that is difficult to degrade and takes hundreds of years to decompose. One of the promising technologies for recycling plastics is pyrolysis. This is the process of breaking long chains of polymers into hydrocarbons which are carried out at high temperatures. The purpose of this paper was to know the effect of using catalysts and non-catalysts on yield and calorific value. In this study, the pyrolysis process used a natural zeolite catalyst with a temperature of 500ºC. 50 grams of HDPE Plastic feed was put into the reactor for 3 hours. The variations in the addition of Zeolite catalyst were 1.5, 2.5, 3.75 and 5%wt. The results goals that the highest yield was 44.36% and the heating value of 10230.295 cal/g for the addition of 5 grams of catalyst. The addition of a catalyst can increase the conversion of plastic to fuelKeywords: Catalyst, Plastic, HDPE, energy, pyrol...
