Academic writing block is a psychology-based writing problem that has a productivity-lowering eff... more Academic writing block is a psychology-based writing problem that has a productivity-lowering effect on the publishing process. This study aimed to develop a valid and reliable assessment tool to measure academic writing block. To this end, during the pre-trial and trial applications, academicians were interviewed face to face. The main application was realized through the online form. A pre-reliability test, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and total item correlation were conducted in the trial application. In the main application, reliability test, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and total item correlation were performed for construct validity. After the trial application, it was determined that the scale has a four-factor structure consisting of 23 items. Cronbach Alpha values were calculated to determine the preliminary reliability of the scale. CFA was conducted to test the construct validity of the Academic Writing Block Scale (AWBS). It was observed that the structure with four implicit variables determined in CFA was confirmed by the remaining 18 items in the scale. Besides, the total item correlation was used to test construct validity. Cronbach Alpha values were calculated to determine the reliability of AWBS. According to these values, it can be said that AWBS is a valid and reliable assessment instrument that can be used to measure academic writing block.

İlk ve ortaöğretim okullarında verilen Türkçe ve dil bilgisi derslerinin yeterli olmadığı görüşün... more İlk ve ortaöğretim okullarında verilen Türkçe ve dil bilgisi derslerinin yeterli olmadığı görüşünden hareketle meslek yüksekokullarında iki dönem Türk Dili I ve Türk Dili II dersleri verilmektedir. Bu araştırmada birinci sınıfta okuyan öğrencilerin Türk Dili dersi bağlamında bu ders ve genel anlamda Türk Dili hakkındaki düşünceleri doğrultusunda dersin hedeflerine ne derece ulaşıldığı incelenmiştir. Veriler Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Üniversitesi Ardeşen Meslek Yüksekokulunda farklı ön lisans programlarında okuyan 8 birinci sınıf öğrencisi ile yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu aracılığıyla odak grup görüşmesi yapılarak elde edilmiştir. Elde edilen veriler betimsel analiz tekniğiyle incelenmiştir. Öğrencilerin Türk dili dersinin amaçları ve hedefleri konusunda bilgiye sahip olmadıkları; daha önce bu konuda aralarında konuşmadıkları veya ders hakkında kendi kendilerine hiç düşünmedikleri ortaya çıkmıştır.

The study aims to improve the practices of the Turkish language course lecturer through the views... more The study aims to improve the practices of the Turkish language course lecturer through the views of the students and the reflection of the lecturer himself in order to achieve the objectives of the course which is offered in vocational schools of higher education. To this end, an action research design was adopted within qualitative research approach. This approach enables the researcher to be in the very process of the research as a practitioner, and provides the pratitioner with the opportunity of observing and detecting the problems occur during the practice as well as evaluate the results of the new practices implemented after the designation of the problems. The study was conducted on 186 students in 14 weeks period in 2011-2012 academic year. The data was collected through the diaries of the practitioner, and semi-structured interviews with the students. Some of the students did not provide any or enough data within the scope of the study during the data colection process. At the end of the study, the practitioner concluded that the course lecturer should be the model for the students by attaching importance to the course and be a model to the students in this respect. Besides, the students need to be engaged with literary works which provide to them language awareness, and thus this should be practiced with the the writing practices. Additioanlly, necessary techniques which enable the large number of students to participate in such activities should be used in the crowded classrooms.
