Objective to assess the prevalence of sleep quality and associated factors in adult cancer patients on treatment in the Oncology unit of Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 2021 Methods institutional-based cross-sectional study design was used and data was collected by using face-to-face structured interview questionnaires from March 1 to April 1, 2021. Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) consisted of 19 items, the social support scale (OSS-3) consisted of 3 items, and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) consisted of 14 items were applied. Logistic regression including bivariate and multivariate analysis was done to examine the association between dependent and independent variables, and P< 0.05 was considered the level of significance for associations. Results A total of 264 s...

The professional licensing bodies are potentially valuable sources for tracking the health workforce as many skilled health-care providers require formal training, registration, and licensure to practice their professions. Objective: The aim of this study was to explore the health professionals’ licensing practice and its challenges among Health care managers in Ethiopia, 2021. Methods: A cross-sectional study design with a phenomenological approach was employed between March 26/2021 to April 30/2021, to collect qualitative data. We conducted in-depth interviews with a total of 32 purposively selected health system managers. An interview guide was prepared in English, translated to Amharic then pretested. Audio recorded data was transcribed verbatim, translated and analyzed thematically. Member check was done to check the credibility of the result. Resu...

This is common in some, if not all, parts of the country. The paucity of healthcare experts, high turnover rates, employee burnout, and challenges in training and development issues were all key recruiting challenges globally. Objectives To assess the practice of health professionals’ licensing and its predictors among hiring bodies in Ethiopia, March 24/2021 –May 23/ 2021. Methods A quantitative technique was used in this institution-based cross-sectional study. From March 24 to May 23, 2021, the study was conducted in selected regional health bureaus, zonal health departments, district health offices, and both private and government-owned health facilities across Ethiopia. A stratified sampling strategy was used per region, followed by a simple random sampling technique. Samples were assigned proporti...

The aim of this formative assessment was to describe access to malaria prevention and control interventions among seasonal migrant or mobile workers in seven regional states of Ethiopia. Methods A cross-sectional formative assessment was conducted using a qualitative and quantitative mixed-method design, between October 2015 and October 2016. Quantitative data were collected from organizations that employ seasonal migrant workers and were analyzed using Microsoft Excel and ArcGIS 10.8 (Geo-spatial data). Qualitative data were collected using in-depth interview from 23 key informants (7 seasonal migrant workers, and 16 experts and managers of development projects who had hired seasonal migrant workers), which were recorded, transcribed, translated, coded, and thematically analyzed. Results There were 1,017,8...

The general poverty line of the study area was determined to be Birr 248 per month per adult equivalent and 29.8 percent of the population in the study areas were found to be poor. The projected consumption percapita after the three step FGLS estimation revealed that, the incidence of vulnerability to poverty in the area was 34.2 percent and therefore, vulnerability was more spread in the study areas than ex post poverty.Using the two vulnerability thresholds, observed poverty rate (0.298) and vulnerability of 0.5, about 28.6%, 5.6% and 65.8% of households were highly vulnerable, low vulnerable and not vulnerable respectively. Most importantly, from the to...

The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications comprising twelve cotton varieties. The results showed significant (P < 0.01) differences among varieties in the populations of adult beetle they hosted and the injury they sustained at 15, 22, 29, 36 and 43 days after sowing (DAS). At 15 DAS, the highest numbers of adult beetle per plant (6.3), percent leaf area damaged (60.32 %) and number of shot-holes per attacked leaf (53.4) was recorded in Cucurova variety, whereas the lowest in Bulk-202 (2.05 beetles, 26.15% leaf area damaged and 23.16 shot-holes). The rate of incidence and damages decreased with the increase of the age of the cotton plants. Significant differences were also observed among cotton varieties in some agronomic characteristics i.e. in number of plants counted per plot at harvest and seed cotton yield in terms of ki...

However, the application of laparoscopic D2 lymphadenectomy remains controversial. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and outcomes of laparoscopic gastrectomy with D2 lymphadenectomy for gastric cancer. Results Between May 2016 and May 2018, twenty-five consecutive patients with gastric cancer underwent laparoscopic D2 gastrectomy: eighteen patients (72%) underwent distal gastrectomy, four patients (16%) underwent total gastrectomy, and three patients (12%) underwent proximal gastrectomy. The median number of lymph nodes retrieved was 18 (5–35). A positive proximal margin was detected in 2 patients (8%). The median operative time and amount of blood loss were 240 min (200–330) and 250 ml (200–450), respectively. Conversion to an open procedure was performed in seven patients (28%). The median hospital stay period was 8 days (6–30), and ...

The most commonly used autologous tissue for reconstruction is the transverse rectus abdominis musculocutaneous flap (TRAM). The TRAM flap could be transferred either as pedicled or a free flap with microvascular anastomosis. The following work was carried out to evaluate the two techniques. Thirty-one female patients with operable breast cancer consented to immediate breast reconstruction during the period from June 1998 to December 2000. Fifteen patients had a free TRAM flap reconstruction. In sixteen patients, a pedicled TRAM flap was used. Three patients in the pedicled group underwent bilateral breast reconstruction, thus there were 19 pedicled flaps available for evaluation. Four patients in the pedicled flap group underwent reduction mammoplasty of the normal breast and in five other patients a bipedicled flap was used to achieve size matching with the reconstructed b...
