Methodology: A systematic literature review was conducted, taking 41 papers published from 2007 to 2014 into account. Findings: 41 articles coherent with the research question were identified, with the key issues being highlighted for each one. A fundamental aspect investigated in the literature on sustainability in supply chain management was the performance that concerned all members along the supply chain in a collaborative approach. Research limits: This study could be further explored through a deeper empirical analysis of sustainability in supply chain management. Practical implications: Both academics and practitioners may find this literature review useful, as it highlights the main features of sustainability in supply chain management studies. Of particular importance is the performance measurement of sustainability, which has positive feedback on business performance, and its ability to create competitive advantage. Originality of the paper: A great number of interesting topics related to sustainability in supply chain management have arisen and are worth deepening. These can be profitably extended by academics and developed in various application areas of managerial interest.

In recent years, the importance of logistics services in disaster relief operations and the capacity of LSPs to improve humanitarian supply chain management have become an increasingly interesting topic for both professionals and academics. Design/methodology/approach This research follows a qualitative approach based on multiple case studies. Findings The current research, after considering the differences and similarities among collaboration, cooperation and coordination and underlining how crucial these mechanisms are in the humanitarian context, explains the contribution of LSPs to relief operations alongside humanitarians. Research limitations/implications There has been increased interest in humanitarian logistics on the part of international academic and professional communities. This study constitutes a first exploratory step in the research to build a platform for benchmarking analysis of logistics services that aims to ensure the effective implementation of social responsibility principles. Practical implications The managerial implications arising from the research offer a range of current responsible actions from which strategic and operative directions to contribute can be derived. Originality/value Humanitarian logistics represents a crucial field in logistics management. This paper addresses the innovative socially responsible initiatives undertaken by the main international LSPs in the area of humanitarian logistics.

This research examines which of the internal and external practices that LSPs claim to promote are actually of value in achieving sustainability across the logistics sector as a whole and in the relevant supply chains in which they operate. After an analysis of the literature, the authors draw up a list of relevant environmental concerns based on the global reporting initiatives (GRIs) database and propose a potential classification scheme for current practices of selected LSPs operating in Europe. Our research adds to current knowledge in the field by integrating environmental sustainability with LSP activities and constitutes a platform for benchmark analysis with a view to introducing sustainable practices.

In this context, to understand better the actor-to-actor connections, interactions and relationship networks, this study relies on a systems thinking perspective by defining the openness degree of the systems and the governance of the communication flows that derive as a consequence. The methodological approach adopted, albeit of a heuristic type, refers to the positive method in that, starting from the analysis of the historical descriptive literature and non-fiction, it intends to formulate very precise future scenarios. The systemic interpretation, in the light of the constructivist paradigm, allows us to subvert the traditional explanatory report 'object-information-observer', placing the observation function at the base of the explanatory chain: 'observerinformation-object'. The prospect's change is relevant because every phenomenon in the eyes of the observer is a construct. The present work sheds light on the birth of a new production mode based on collaborative and decentralized models, referred to as 'weapons of mass collaboration'. Based on these changes, enterprise 2.0 develops. The user-consumer takes on a new look and acquires an active, fluid and growing power. This reveals that innovation can come, and indeed does come, from below, from the same skilled users who increasingly thin the line between professionals and amateurs. Regarding some practical implications, this study shows organizations of any type the benefits of the new economic paradigm, leveraging the partnership to cut costs and accelerating the pace of innovation. Another influential implication to macro-and micro-organizational structures is the transition from an economy of scale to one of flexibility and breadth. Finally, it is noted that the operating economic unit is no longer the company but the economic project around the network between businesses and segments of companies and their subcontractors.

Albergo Diffuso (known in the international literature as a "scattered or dispersed hotel") represents an interesting interpretation of sustainable "Made in Italy" tourism. This paper investigates the Albergo Diffuso as an example of sustainable community-based entrepreneurial land use. Although Albergo Diffuso springs out of an entrepreneur's business idea, this model cannot survive without a strong identification with the territory. Albergo Diffuso thus represents a noteworthy model of sustainable tourism and shows how reciprocity of entrepreneurship and the territory creates value for all stakeholders both through enhancement of the landscape and attractive development of tourist destinations. The Le Grotte della Civita case study of Matera (Italy) is guided by a descriptive model that provides a heuristic tool for conceptualising changes in sustainable tourism.

Specifically, the management of fashion and textile supply chains characterized by geographical extension requires paying particular attention to environmental and social sustainability. Following an analysis of the literature on sustainable supply chains in the fashion and textile industries, this qualitatively based research examines – from a supply chain perspective – the sustainability initiatives implemented by a yarn and garment producer through a single case study. Subsequently, the classification of potential sustainability initiatives is presented. From this investigation, several good practices for sustainable fashion supply chains can be identified, providing a reference point for similar companies.
