Görsel peyzaj kalitesine ilişkin sosyal tercihler, genellikle, beğenilen manzara fotoğraflarının ... more Görsel peyzaj kalitesine ilişkin sosyal tercihler, genellikle, beğenilen manzara fotoğraflarının değerlendirilmesi gibi çeşitli tekniklere dayalı olarak analiz edilmektedir. Bu değerlendirmeler eğitim düzeyi, cinsiyet, yaş ve çevresel tutumlar gibi katılımcı özellikleriyle birlikte farklı peyzaj özelliklerinin varlığı, konfigürasyonu ve dokusundan etkilenmektedir. Görsel kalite tercihlerini etkileyen faktörlerin karmaşıklığı, bu tür araştırmaların nesnelleştirilmesinin mümkün olup olmadığı sorusunu gündeme getirmektedir. İncelemeler demografik faktör olan cinsiyet ve peyzaj tercihleri ile ilgili çalışmaların daha çok kentlerdeki kamusal açık ve yeşil alanların peyzajları ile ilgili olduğunu ortaya çıkarmıştır. Çalışmada doğal peyzaja sahip kırsal alanlarda erkek ve kadın uzmanların görsel peyzaj tercihleri ve eğilimlerini ortaya çıkarmak amaçlanmıştır. Bu doğrultuda önemli görsel zenginliklere sahip olan, ortak özellikler taşıyan iki farklı alanda görsel tercihleri saptamak amacıyla SPSS ve Excel programları kullanılarak çapraz karşılaştırmada Hakkâri'nin Yüksekova ilçesi sınırları içerisinde bulunan Büyük Sat Buzul Gölü ve dağlarına ait peyzaj ile Bitlis'in Tatvan ilçesine bağlı Por Köyü ve Kalderasına ait peyzaj ele alınmıştır. Peyzajın görsel estetik beğenisinde doğal özelliklerin rolü ve cinsiyet faktörüyle iki alanın kıyaslanması, beğeni üzerindeki etkisi ve ilişkilerinin irdelenmesi araştırmaya özgün bir nitelik kazandırmaktadır. Çıkan sonuçlar, uzman kadın kullanıcıların doğal peyzajlara daha yüksek ilgi gösterdiğini ancak alana duydukları güvenin daha düşük olduğunu ortaya koymuştur. Buna göre görsel peyzaj tercihlerinde toplumsal cinsiyetin önemli olduğu ortaya çıkmaktadır. Çalışma sonucunda toplumsal cinsiyet eşitliği konusunun önemi ve peyzajların herkes tarafından aynı güvenle kullanılması gerekliliğiyle yeniden karşılaşılmıştır.

In today's world, more than half of the population lives in cities, and the amount of solid waste... more In today's world, more than half of the population lives in cities, and the amount of solid waste increases in parallel with the worldwide population increase. Cities face the problem of waste and recycling, which affects their image and causes visual pollution for the landscape, and efforts are being made to solve this problem. Conscious societies go from large scale to small scale solutions, from trash exchanges from other countries to modifying trash cans in the city. In order to maintain awareness, as well as adults, the education of environmental awareness of today's children who are adults of the future should be given great importance. In the study; BeTo kit was designed as a product concept based on sustainable awareness philosophy in order to provide solutions to these problems and to reduce visual pollution. This kit, which will be distributed to elementary classes, is a fun way to teach elementary school students how to sort and recycle garbage with gamification technique in collaboration with Retake Rome. Retake Rome is a movement of citizens, non-profit and non-party, engaged in the fight against degradation, in the enhancement of public assets and in the diffusion of civic sense in the territory. In the operation of the system, BeTo kit will be distributed to schools and waste will be separated and collected. The kit is designed to improve the sustainability of the livable environment and the visuality of the landscape. The kit designed for this application will contribute to product designers, environmental engineers, landscape architects, ecologists, primary school educators and other related disciplines in the studies to be conducted on the basis of improving the sustainability of the habitable environment and the visuality of the landscape in urban areas. In addition, it is thought that the proposed application will serve as a basis for municipalities and other city stakeholders for physical, social, and ecological studies in urban areas in the future.

Deductive method is used to examine the conceptual and theoretical approaches and to determine the elements of the urban identity as well as the parameters that play an active role in urban identity. In this process the natural and artificial components that make up the identities of cities was examined, and that the most dominant element of identity perceived by man was found as one of the artificial components that historical urban landscape. In this context, the relationship between the historical urban landscape and the urban identity has been emphasized. The main subject that creates and changes the city is human, and the perception that forms in the minds of city users constitutes the image of the city. Common images in the minds of users also constitute the identity of the city. Urban imagery is concerned with the process of individuals perceiving their surroundings. The visual expression of concrete elements comes to the fore in the process of the individual's perception of a place. As a matter of fact, in the current city descriptions, the elements of identity are explained with the concept of visual landscape evaluation as the visual narrative plays an active role, such as the panoramic views and silhouettes of the cities. However, linking urban identity to only visible tangible elements and the sense of vision is a one-way approach. Therefore, the "spirit of the place (genius loci)", which is defined as values accumulated by layering within the historical depth of spaces, also gives a fourth dimension to identity, should not be ignored. Globalization, which is one of the great problems of our time, unfortunately destroys the identity element in cities. The preservation of urban identity is important for the future of the past. The historic urban landscape areas that contain the habitats are rapidly disappearing. These landscapes, which contain the memory and genetic code of societies, need to be taken care of and are only possible with the awareness of urbanity. it is aimed to provide researchers with dense information and to create social self-consciousness through the multifaceted study of many domestic and foreign sources.

Bu kapsamda Van Gölü Güney kıyı bölgesi ve yakın çevresinde yerleşim uygunluğu ve göl görünürlük haritasının üretilmesi üzere uzaktan algılama ve coğrafi bilgi sistemleri araçlarından yararlanmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda alanını yerleşim uygunluklarına göre değerlendirme, yerleşim uygunlukları ile göl manzarası varlığına göre değerlendirme ve yerleşim uygunlukları ile seçilmiş bakı noktalarının uzman görüşleri sonuçlarına göre değerlendirmeler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Abstract Lake scenery is an important asset to such ground locations, where potential urban/touri... more Abstract Lake scenery is an important asset to such ground locations, where potential urban/tourism development is a concern. The aim of this paper is to analyse lake scenery using user surveys and a visibility map as a quantified variable. Study area is the city of Van (Eastern Turkey) and the coastal areas in its close vicinity. Visibility map was produced using cumulative viewshed analyses that combine results of a binary (visible/non-visible) function (i.e., intervisibility) applied to observation and target locations. Intervisibilities between a priori determined observation and target locations were calculated and mapped. For this purpose, a total of 7349 target locations were identified on lake surface. Observation locations were described as pixels on a digital surface model (DSM). In addition, qualitative analyses were employed using photographs taken from these 25 points. Visibility maps showed that there are certain patches of undeveloped coastal areas with higher lake visibility value in close vicinity of the city of Van. The important landmarks with high scenery scores were also evaluated. For this purpose, point locations are overlaid onto Lake visibility map. This revealed that 22 out of 25 locations and their neighbouring areas have high level of Lake visibility. Areas with high visibility values were proposed as potential development areas due to their scenic advantages. Computer-aided visualization of landscapes is a promising cost-effective concept for landscape-level environmental planning and management as it helps to conceptualize visual aspects of landscapes. Visibility information has therefore a strong potential to increase the efficiency of urban development plans.

The kit designed for this application will contribute to product designers, environmental engineers, landscape architects, ecologists, primary school educators and other related disciplines in the studies to be conducted on the basis of improving the sustainability of the habitable environment and the visuality of the landscape in urban areas. In addition, it is thought that the proposed application will serve as a basis for municipalities and other city stakeholders for physical, social, and ecological studies in urban areas in the future.

Deductive method is used to examine the conceptual and theoretical approaches and to determine the elements of the urban identity as well as the parameters that play an active role in urban identity. In this process the natural and artificial components that make up the identities of cities was examined, and that the most dominant element of identity perceived by man was found as one of the artificial components that historical urban landscape. In this context, the relationship between the historical urban landscape and the urban identity has been emphasized. The main subject that creates and changes the city is human, and the perception that forms in the minds of city users constitutes the image of the city. Common images in the minds of users also constitute the identity of the city. Urban imagery is concerned with the process of individuals perceiving their surroundings. The visual expression of concrete elements comes to the fore in the process of the individual's perception of a place. As a matter of fact, in the current city descriptions, the elements of identity are explained with the concept of visual landscape evaluation as the visual narrative plays an active role, such as the panoramic views and silhouettes of the cities. However, linking urban identity to only visible tangible elements and the sense of vision is a one-way approach. Therefore, the "spirit of the place (genius loci)", which is defined as values accumulated by layering within the historical depth of spaces, also gives a fourth dimension to identity, should not be ignored. Globalization, which is one of the great problems of our time, unfortunately destroys the identity element in cities. The preservation of urban identity is important for the future of the past. The historic urban landscape areas that contain the habitats are rapidly disappearing. The aim of this paper is to analyse lake scenery using user surveys and a visibility map as a quantified variable. Study area is the city of Van (Eastern Turkey) and the coastal areas in its close vicinity. Visibility map was produced using cumulative viewshed analyses that combine results of a binary (visible/non-visible) function (i.e., intervisibility) applied to observation and target locations. Intervisibilities between a priori determined observation and target locations were calculated and mapped. For this purpose, a total of 7349 target locations were identified on lake surface. Observation locations were described as pixels on a digital surface model (DSM). In addition, qualitative analyses were employed using photographs taken from these 25 points. Visibility maps showed that there are certain patches of undeveloped coastal areas with higher lake visibility value in close vicinity of the city of Van. The important landmarks with high scenery scores were also evaluated. For this purpose, point locations are overlaid onto Lake visibility map. This revealed that 22 out of 25 locations and their neighbouring areas have high level of Lake visibility. Areas with high visibility values were proposed as potential development areas due to their scenic advantages. Computer-aided visualization of landscapes is a promising cost-effective concept for landscape-level environmental planning and management as it helps to conceptualize visual aspects of landscapes. Visibility information has therefore a strong potential to increase the efficiency of urban development plans.
