As part of a project to recuperate copper from these deposits, this work investigates the effect of the rapid cooling of these slags on their physicochemical milling and flotation properties. Two sets of samples from these deposits were analyzed and compared. The first set of samples were analyzed as is, without any pre-treatment. The second set of samples were melted in a furnace and then quenched and granulated in the water. Both sets of samples were analyzed and compared in terms of their physicochemical, milling and flotation properties. This included the results of chemical and SEM - EDS tests, Bond Work Index in rods and balls mills, milling kinetics and flotation parameters. The analysis and comparison served to draw proper conclusions on the copper recovery of each set of conditions.

The core of the technology, that can otherwise be named a direct iron-ore to steel technology, is a special direct liquid-state reduction of unique iron-ore cold-pressed briquettes in a single electric furnace unit achieving simultaneously the reduction of iron ore in the briquettes and converting it into steel based on the principles of the energy self-sufficiency. The output of ORIEN process is a unique iron melt of a special type in which the carbon exists in non-equilibrium colloidal form and can be controlled to vary widely from 0.04% to 30%. The role of science and technology as one of the most important pillars of sustainable developmen... more The role of science and technology as one of the most important pillars of sustainable development has been analysed within the new FLOGEN sustainability framework. Many distant and recent historical examples have been considered to make the point that science and technology are grand disruptors of boundaries, borders, and ways of life, and they have opened society’s eyes to new serious problems and realities. The paper points out that science and technology are well credited for this great diagnostic role, but have been frequently ignored for their role as solution producers. Numerous examples illustrate the fact that usually solutions are sought far from science and technology, or without their close cooperation, and this has been in fact the cause of failures. It is shown that science and technology are grand solution providers, and this is clear from the distant, recent, and current realities, where they have proven wrong all non-scientific solutions or doomsday predictions. Research paper thumbnail of Efficient Utilization Of Fuel Energy In The Steel Industry Using A New Structure Of Energy And Metallurgical Unit Type Self-Organizing Spray-Emulsion Reactor

Metallurgical and power industries are the largest consumers of organic fuel. Fuel and energy res... more Metallurgical and power industries are the largest consumers of organic fuel. Fuel and energy resources make more than 30% of the total cost of the production. The energy efficiency of the entire cycle of a traditional metallurgical process in Russia is about 20%. Almost 40-50% of the produced energy is lost with the exhaust gas. As such recuperating the exhaust gas energy in thermal and chemical forms is an efficient way to maximize the utilization of fuel energy. The recuperation of the thermal energy is usually done through waste heat boilers, cooling systems, and heating fuel installations in adjacent power plants. An alternative to this method is the recuperation of exhaust energy of the gas by using its chemical potential to obtain another synthetic gas which can serve as fuel for other units or engines. This paper introduces a new spray-emulsion metallurgical technology (SER) that makes this possible. This new technology has several advantages: It assures a high speed physica...

Research paper thumbnail of Model predictions of the liquidus surface of multi-component iron silicate smelting slags containing magnesia and calcia

One option to counter this increase is to flux with calcia. In this work, experimental liquidus measurements including new measurements on industrial slags have been compared with a FACT-based thermodynamic model, which predicts the liquidus surface of multi-component iron silicate smelting slags containing both magnesia and calcia. The predictions, which agree well with experimental results, are summarized in both isothermal and non-isothermal diagrams to give a quantitative description of the liquidus surface

In addition to its well-known structural properties, not only it has been considered as matrix or reinforcement in metal and ceramic composites but also as electronic material and biomaterial. Owing to the variety of phase shapes in which it can be produced, namely, particles, whiskers, fibers, films and coatings, Si3N4 is selected for various applications. Recently, orthopedic applications and bacteriostatic characteristics of silicon nitride compared to that of titanium biomaterials have been reported. Inherent to the potential of Si3N4 is the synthesis route used. The hybrid system chemical vapor deposition (or infiltration) (HYSY-CVD, HYSY-CVI) route has been proposed and applied for synthesizing Si3N4 in a variety of morphologies. Alpha silicon nitride produced by this route has also been reported as a promising candidate for emitting in the blue light region. In this contribution, aut...

One possible treatment of these residues is their use in the production of secondary copper anodes (SCA) which in turn can be used in electrolytic refining processes to separate PM, PGM and other elements that these SCA contains. This work, which is part of a bigger study on separation of Au, Ag, Pt, Pd and Ir from anode slime gained from secondary copper, describes a compositional characterization of secondary copper anodes obtained from various aqueous residues. It was found that SCA contains Cu, PMs, PGM and some other recoverable metals such as nickel, selenium and tellurium. The composition of the secondary copper anodes differs from the composition of the primary Cu anode. Although SCA contains less precious met...

As such, it is important to identify prognostic factors that place patients at an increased risk for graft failure. There are no data on the effects of patellar tendinopathy on failure of ACL reconstruction when using a bone-patellar tendon-bone (BPTB) autograft. Purpose/Hypothesis: The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of patellar tendinopathy with the risk of graft failure in primary ACL reconstruction when using a BPTB autograft. The hypothesis was that patellar tendinopathy would result in higher rates of graft failure when using a BPTB autograft for primary ACL reconstruction.

Thirty years ago, in order to overcomes some drawbacks of this slag a new "calcium ferrite" slag was proposed especially for continuous copper converting. Since both slags have strong and weak points depending on the field of their application about 8 years ago another new "ferrous calcium silicate" slag was proposed that is expected to solve the drawbacks of each slag. This new slag is defined as mainly consisting of FeOx, CaO and SiO2 as its main components but it can practically have several combinations of these constituents. In order to determine the best area of this slag for possible industrial application the quantification of phase relations is an important subject. In this paper the work carried out by the authors in quantifying through an original physical model the phase relations, liquidus surface, liquidus regions, behavior of solid phases and the effect of minor components is reviewed. Several special compositions of this slag have been identified and discussed for possible applications in the industrial practice.
