Electric Vehicles (EV), batteries and shiftable loads are devices that provide energy flexibility in the proposed system. The proposed energy management problem consists of two stages: day-ahead and real time. A hybrid method is defined for the first time in this paper to model the uncertainty of the PV power generation based on its power prediction. In the day-ahead stage, the uncertainty is modeled by interval bands. On the other hand, the uncertainty of PV power generation is modeled through a stochastic scenario-based method in the real-time stage. The performance of the proposed hybrid Interval-Stochastic (InterStoch) method is compared with the Modified Stochastic Predicted Band (MSPB) method. Moreover, the impacts of energy flexibility and the demand response program on the expected profit and transacted electrical energy of the system are assessed in the case study presented in this paper.

Energy Flexibility Management in Power Distribution Systems: Decentralized Approach
2018 International Conference on Smart Energy Systems and Technologies (SEST), 2018
Increasing penetration of distributed energy resources in power distribution systems and appearin... more Increasing penetration of distributed energy resources in power distribution systems and appearing the flexible behavior of end-users based on demand response programs make the distribution layer of the power systems more active. In this way, energy transaction management through a decentralized manner could be an appropriate solution to improve the efficiency of energy trading in the distribution power networks. This paper proposes a decentralized method to manage energy flexibility by consumers based on a bottom-up approach in distributed power systems. Also, a 33-bus distribution network is considered to assess the performance of our proposed decentralized energy flexibility management model based on impacts of flexible behaviors of end-user and uncertainty of distribution lines to flow energy in the power network.

Nature-Inspired Algorithms Applied to an Efficient and Self-adaptive Resources Selection Model for Grid Applications

Despite the advantages of such paradigm, several challenges related to grid resources selection and resources availability still demand active research. The aim of this article is to provide an efficient and self-adaptive resources selection strategy for grid applications deployment. This resources adaptation capability is provided by applying nature-inspired algorithms during the selection process. Specifically, both the preferential attachment technique from Complex Network field and a cellular automata model are used. Finally, the results obtained during tests in a real grid show that the proposed model achieves an effective use of grid resources, resulting in a reduction of application execution time and in an increased rate of successfully finished tasks. In conclusion, the model improves the infrastructure throughput for grid applications.
The Small-World Phenomenon Applied to a Self-adaptive Resources Selection Model

The main idea of this phenomenon is that seemingly distant nodes actually have very short path lengths due to the presence of a small number of shortcut edges running between clusters of nodes. In the present work, we apply this principle for solving the resources selection problem in grid computing environments (distributed systems composed by heterogeneous and geographically dispersed resources). The proposed model expects to find the most efficient resources for a particular grid application in a short number of steps. It also provides a self-adaptive ability for dealing with environmental changes. Finally, this selection model is tested in a real grid infrastructure. From the results obtained it is concluded that both a reduction in execution time and an increase in the successfully completed tasks rate are achieved.
