Acknowledgment of the role of scientific enterprise in the ideological, political, economic, social, and educational context has led to a rapid increase of attention this problem receives from specialists in various disciplines. Drawing on foreign experience, the authors of this article put before them the task of reviewing Project 2061 initiated by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) viewed as a promising approach to tackling the diminishing levels of science education both in our country and abroad. Svyrydenko*, F. G. Revin** The drive to resolve perplexing states of affairs is a natural trait of the human cognitive makeup. As a result, most of the philosophical systems and schools of thought see their task both in formulating remarkably complex issues and in coming up with solutions (answers) to such pressing conundrums as the nature of reality, existing ways to its perceiving and the way our activities interact within this reality. Accordingly, the authors of this article consider the aim of the cyrrent study in elaborating some of the interconnected (philosophical and other) notions of a problembased teaching methodology which presents a fresh alternative to more perennial, didactic modes of obtaining information and forming knowledge. The article explores potential consequences of utilizing digital networks viewed as a consolidati... more The article explores potential consequences of utilizing digital networks viewed as a consolidating resource for generating trust and shared values necessary to establish credible commitments though e-driven cooperative pursuits. By taking advantage of research on web-facilitated collaborative algorithms I survey their importance for stimulating user civic engagement as well as highlight the resultant digital capital creation within the informational platforms in which they are embedded. Acknowledging the relevance of communication power in contemporary network societies (Castells) it becomes especially poignant to further analyze the fragmentation of authority brought about by ICT exposure rarely evident within the more conventional concentrated hubs of socio-political discourse. The article examines digital discourse perceived as a rallying impetus for generating shared pro-... more The article examines digital discourse perceived as a rallying impetus for generating shared pro-active attitudes necessary to foster online cooperative action. The emergence of social media as a means of collaborative online communication has informed several distinct research agendas. The author is especially keen on studying the impact of Internet technologies on the creation and accumulation of social capital, comparing its formation and spread in online and offline environments. An equally important task is to identify the role that its multiple research methodologies play in highlighting the functional features of various physical and/or virtual communities. A special point of interest for the author is in analyzing the ever-diminishing gap between webbased communication and real-world information exchange. With social capital remaining a relatively stable analysis phenomenon during the pre-Internet era, one can only point to the proliferation of modern electronic means of data transmission drastically altering the channels through which social ties are currently being established and transformed. The paper, thus, places its major research emphasis on establishing the common ground between online and offline social interaction mechanisms responsible for to the growing number of overlapping study results between the two spheres.
