By extracting and clustering capabilities, as well as proven performance outcomes from existing literature in the field, the authors develop a conceptual model of the DCs required for DPT.FindingsThe authors first introduce and define DPT and the corresponding motivations that trigger firms to invest in advanced digital technologies. Second, by adopting the DC lens, the authors provide an overview of nine microfoundations required for DPT and highlight the strategic options procurement leaders can use when strategizing about adopting combinations of digital technologies. Third, the authors present a future research agenda...

These differences in perception create an extra layer of complexity that is often ignored in the extant literature. This study adds to the understanding of how perceived asymmetries in trust and contractual fairness, two key relationship governance mechanisms, impact relational rents. This study also analyzes how boundary spanners aid managers to deal with these perceived asymmetries.Design/methodology/approachBased on survey data of 103 buyer–supplier dyads from a single global manufacturer of industrial equipment, the authors test hypotheses of perceived asymmetries in trust and contractual fairness, as well as the moderating effect of boundary spanners, on relational rents.FindingsThis research challenges the belief that asymmetries negatively impact or lead to unstable buyer–supplier relationships. Furthermore, it explains how preferential tre...

To fuel creativity, companies install sourcing teams that can capitalize on the specialized knowledge and expertise of their employees across the company. This article introduces the concept of a team creativity climate (TCC) team members’ shared perceptions of their joint policies, procedures, and practices with respect to creatively develop sourcing strategies – as a means to addresses the unique challenges associated with a collective, cross-functional approach to develop value-enhancing sourcing strategies. Using a systematic scale development process that validates the proposed concept, the authors confirm its ability to predict sourcing team performance, and suggest some research avenues extending from this concept.

More specifically, we investigate whether supplier adaptation occurs as a result of the interplay among supplier development, preferential buyer status and supplier relational embeddedness. Supplier relational embeddedness provides information to the buyer about the supplier' s intentions to reciprocate and stay close with the buyer. We examine the linkages between supply chain management research on supplier development, organization theory research on adaptation, social capital and networks in order to investigate how buyers can influence their competitive position in a supplier' s portfolio of competitive buyers. Furthermore, we introduce into our conceptual model a number of relational mediators (i.e. trust, commitment and satisfaction) advancing existent research on supplier development and adaptation. The results show that the relationship between supplier relational embed...
