Address correspondence to SJS at sid.segalowitz@brocku.ca •MMA training successfully maintained ITC recorded during a selective auditory attention task over repeated task administration, compared to controls •Effects restricted to early time windows and the theta frequency range •Results consistent with finding that occipital theta ITC is increased to attention-grabbing pseudo words as compared to real words [12] •MMA participants therefore benefitted by maintaining consistent attention to tones over each testing session •Posterior IC effects, although we are currently investigating these effects in other, more traditionally related to selfregulation, networks (e.g., PFC) •Frontal midline theta thought to reflect alternate activities of ACC and superficial PFC, [13] while the interpretation of posterior theta is less clear Children with ADHD and/or learning disabilities often show difficulties appr...

Graduate training programs have an ethical obligation to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to practice ethically and competently; there is, however, a considerable lack of emphasis on self-care in graduate programs as well as in the profession as a whole. This article reviews principles relating to self-care from the Canadian Code of Ethics for Psychologists, particularly the principles of Responsible Caring and Integrity in Relationships. The professional psychology training context is described as it relates to self-care, with a review of the training literature and accreditation standards. Given the lack of systematic training in self-care currently provided by professional psychology training programs, it is suggested that programs conceptualise self-care beyond impairment, view self-care as a competency to be taught and practiced, and integrate training opportunities across the spectrums of training and professional practice.

Given the profound effect these disorders exert on the cognitive, emotional, interpersonal, and physiological functioning of youth, it is imperative to ascertain the mechanisms whereby they are developed, maintained, ameliorated, and prevented. In this vein, research has generated a large repository of empirical findings concerning risk factors that increase vulnerability to internalizing symptomatology and protective factors that render adolescents more resilient in the face of risk. The primary purpose of this paper is therefore to offer a critical evaluation of the recent literature on risk and protective factors that contribute to the emergence of internalizing disorders in adolescents. The first half of this paper concentrates on individual-level risk factors in the distinct yet interrelated domains of cognition, emotion, temperament, interpersonal conduct, and neurobiology. The various links between family-related and environmental risk factors and adolescent psychopathology are also articulated. The literature on individual-level protective factors in the aforementioned domains is analyzed in the second part of the paper, and this is followed by further evaluation of family and environmental variables believed to confer protective benefits against the onset of anxiety and depression. All individual-level, family, and environmental risk and protective factors henceforth discussed are illustrated in Tables 1 to 6 and Figure 1 of this article. Implications of these findings for the development of effective prevention interventions by, for instance, testing of theoretical models of risk, resiliency, and the mediating and moderating processes underlying the links between risk factors and psychopathology, are also discussed.
