In terms of design, this is usually done in the middle of a model's life cycle, when a so-called facelift of a production model is carried out. This involves small changes to the shape of the bodywork to improve the design of the vehicle until it is time for a new model range. This paper discusses a case study that focuses on the modification of the rear body components of a ŠKODA Superb III in Combi version. The aim of the study is to assess how the proposed modifications will affect the aerodynamics of the vehicle. The most significant changes concern the rear spoiler and finlets. The aerodynamic properties are assessed based on CFD simulations that are performed for a series production and a modified variant of the vehicle, and the results of which are compared and discussed.

This body type is characterised by the formation of turbulent flow behind the vehicle, which has a significant effect on the fouling of the tailgate, including the window. By modifying the geometry of components such as the roof spoiler and additional aerodynamic finlets on the sides of the rear window, the airflow is optimised to reduce aerodynamic drag and thus fuel consumption. Three spoiler designs are proposed, one of which is processed to prototype quality using CAD tools. The body of the vehicle with this design is subjected to CFD analysis and evaluated in terms of the given criteria. The results of the simulations are compared with a model of a production vehicle and a sports version vehicle to assess the effect of the geometry on the flow parameters.

Nowadays the design process concerning the exterior and interior parts of a motorcar is unthinkable without utilisation of the CAD support. Although the primary impulses, new ideas or inspirations are arising in the minds of customers, businessmen and managers, the realisation process itself is always a serious task for the engineers in order to create a final shape, taking into consideration the customer's requirements. The experimental vehicles represent a special category of the motorcars. Design of the experimental vehicles demands a specific approach with regard to the above-standard requirements concerning vehicle aerodynamics, reduced rolling resistances and low-level fuel consumption of the vehicle engine.

One of the components that must meet not only aesthetic requirements but also strict safety criteria, guarantee mechanical integrity and have good aerodynamic properties, is a car wheel. Before production begins, wheels must undergo a series of numerical analyses as well as experimental tests. Based on these tests, design modifications are made so that the wheel meets the safety criteria in real operation. The aim of this paper is to present the wheel design process, including the simulation of the rotary bending test using finite elements method (FEM). The paper describes boundary conditions of the numerical model, the process of finite element mesh generation and the results of linear static analysis and fatigue analysis of an aerodynamic wheel.

The autonomous control technology is moving the motorcars into the mobile robot category. The autonomous mobile robotic vehicles, together with new possibilities offered thanks to the mobility services, are improving not only comfort but also safety of transport. Nowadays, application of the homogeneous charge compression ignition technology represents a great progress made in the field of internal combustion drive, taking into consideration more and more rigorous emission standards. This article deals with principles and architecture of the autonomous control, with hybrid drive systems as well as it analyses advantages of the homogeneous charge compression ignition technology, taking into consideration the obtained experimental results.

In our case, we will focus on the design of the exterior rear view mirror. We obtained the information about the shape and as well as the data used to model the part in a virtual CAD computer environment by scanning it with a Leica laser scanner. The obtained point cloud was imported into CATIA V5 software, which is often used in the automotive industry. In the CATIA software modules, section curves were translated into cloud points. Based on these curves, free shaped surfaces of the mirror body and its holder on the car door were created. After creating the mirror body-mirror mount assembly, print data of these parts were generated for production by Rapid Prototyping technology. The printing method based on ABS material using the FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) method was chosen.

It analyses dynamic properties of the sensors of the inertial unit, e.g. gyroscopes and accelerometers. The implementation of the original system of controlling the robot on the basis of autonomous navigation systems into the production system is a dominant part of the paper.

The complexity of this procedure is caused due to a necessity to evaluate a large amount of the various data. One of the solution possibilities is application of a multidimensional statistical model within the evaluation process in order to obtain more accurate information about the actual operational condition concerning the analysed engine.

The complexity of such an evaluation is compounded by the fact that it is a process involving a large amount of disparate measurement data. One of the most effective analytical approaches when dealing with large amounts of data is to engage in a process using multidimensional statistical methods, which can provide a picture of the current status of the flexibility of the machinery. The more methods that are used, the more precise the statistical analysis of measurement data, making it possible to obtain a better picture of the current condition of the machinery.

An algorithm for the measurement adjustment using a small workpiece coordinate system movement and rotation to achieve a smaller least square error of the produced surface for a given freeform surface defined by the function of two variables is considered. The algorithm uses the Newton method for calculation of the orthogonal distance of a measured point to a given surface and also for minimization of the sum of the distance squares. Numerical results for an example are given.
