By investigating two case countries—China and India, this study explains the variance based on the theory of the ‘social construction of risk’ concerning the COVID-19 pandemic. Does an individual country’s culture, style of governance, construction of risk, and communication affect the management of COVID-19? Findings reveal that the variations of risk construction and communication of narratives play a pivotal role in building the public perception of crisis. Cultural homogeneity and collectivism, the constitutional setting for policymaking risk narratives and communication, are crucial determinants of effective crisis management, and many states lacking these factors suffer profound difficulties. Regarding these, China is more successful than India in creating the social construction of the risk of COVID-19 crisis narratives. The policy implication of this study helps the government find a better approach t...

These facts make the process of biomass supply chain as a complex system that requires computational tools, e.g. simulation and mathematical models, for their assessment and analysis. A biomass supply chain simulation model developed on the ExtendSim 8 simulation environment is presented in this paper. A number of sequential operations are applied in order biomass to be mowed, harvested, and transported to a biorefinery facility. Different operational scenarios regarding the travel distance between field and biorefinery facility, number of machines, and capacity of machines are analyzed showing how different parameters affect the processes within biomass supply chain in terms of time and cost. The results shown that parameters such as area of the field, travel distance, number of available machi...

Among 2D systems, graphene is a notable example. Recently, a stable amorphous version of graphene called Monolayer Amorphous Carbon (MAC) was synthesized. MAC poses a new set of questions regarding the effects of disorder on conduction. In this Letter, we perform ensemble-level computational analysis of the coherent electronic transmission through MAC nano-fragments in search of defining characteristics. Our analysis, relying on a semi-empirical Hamiltonian (Pariser-Parr-Pople) and Landauer theory, showed that states near the Fermi energy (E F) in MAC inherit partial characteristics of analogous surface states in graphene nano-fragments. Away from E F , current is carried by a set of delocalized states which transition into a subset of insulating interior states at the band edges. Finally, we also found that quantum interference between the frontier orbitals is a common feature among MAC nano-fragments.

However, attention to and use of relevant theories in associated research is limited (Richey Jr 2009, p.619). Theories are valuable for cultivating a deeper scholarly understanding of a concept such as humanitarian operations. As such, this paper advocates increased deployment of theory in humanitarian operations research. The paper suggests and analyzes 3 social science and management theories as worthy of consideration by scholars and practitioners. The paper generates and stimulates new theory driven research ideas and outlines potential directions for future theoretically rigorous investigations of the practice of operations management in humanitarian contexts.

This study centers on the question, why did China dispatch needed medical aid across the world during the COVID‐19 pandemic? How effectively has China transformed its “pandemic health diplomacy” into soft power? Beijing has taken advantage of this pandemic to exhibit its soft power, win narrative battles, or shape outcomes through the selective delivery of relief toward the world. Beijing has launched a high‐tempo program of pandemic diplomacy through good deeds, such as supplying emergency medical equipment to the world to create a positive image and strengthen China's soft power in the future. The following assumption must be clarified: The COVID‐19 soft‐power push of China increased in developing regions that are heavily indebted to Beijing and where China has huge investment but showed a declining trend in Western European countries and the United States.

Production of pineapple shows an upward trend in Bangladesh. Total 39583 acres (16025 ha) of land was cultivated with the production of 234493 m tones pineapple in 2009-2010. The highest cultivated area, production and yield was observed in Dhaka division. It is widely cultivated in Tangail, Mymensingh, Gazipur, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Chittagong, Bandarban, Khagrachari and Rangamati districts. Tangail district of Dhaka Division is the pioneer of pineapple production. It covered 49% of total pineapple cultivated land and 59% of national production. Generally, the ripen pineapple fruit is consumed freshly and used as source of various food items like jam, jelly, pickles in Bangladesh. Recently, pineapple growers and sellers are using some health hazard chemical such as hormone or and preservative to get attractive pineapple round the year. The demand of pineapple for internal consumption and also for export is increasing day by day. Every year a large amount of pineapple damage results due to lack of appropriate storage, transportation and marketing facilities. So, expansion of pineapple cultivation through proper management can improve the socioeconomic conditions of farmers in Bangladesh.
