The aim of this study was to investigate the appropriateness of Iranian High schools “English Textbook 2” from teachers’ perspectives. For this purpose, 80 male and female experienced English language teachers were randomly selected from different high schools in Dezful, Iran. They were chosen based on the availability sampling method. The evaluation of the textbook was conducted quantitatively through a 5-point Likert scale checklist which was proposed by Litz (2005). The textbook evaluation scheme contained 19 items which relied upon four main criteria namely a) layout and design, b) subject and content, c) activities, and d) skills (see Appendix). The results indicated that from the teachers' perspective there was an incongruity between the pres...

Therefore, this study aimed at investigating the effect of oral vs. written output-based instruction on English as a foreign language (EFL) learners' vocabulary learning with a focus on reflective vs. impulsive learning styles. To this end, 131 learners were chosen among 182 learners by taking Nelson vocabulary proficiency test. Next, the participants received a valid Persian version of reflective thinking (Kember et al., 2000) and Barratt, Patton and Stanford (1975) BIS (Barratt’s Impulsiveness Scale) 11 impulsiveness questionnaires, based on which both experimental groups were divided into impulsive and reflective subgroups, but the control group consisted of both impulsive and reflective learners. After 15 sessions of intervention and based on the results through one-way ANOVA and independent t-test it was concluded that both oral output and written output had s...

Therefore, considering some aspects that affect it such as when and how to correct, and also what types of corrective feedback are more preferable and effective is of crucial concern. The aim of this study is to find the most effective type of error correction (especially the best time: whether immediately or delayed) in the case of accuracy of Iranian EFL learners’ oral production. Thus, in order to investigate this study, 30 homogenous intermediate EFL learners were selected randomly (female) aged 13 to 30 from Tak English language institute in Dezful, Iran. The participants were divided into 2 groups of 15. For G1 errors were corrected immediately and for G2 with some delay, i.e. after finishing their speech during a term. At the end of the term, each student were asked to discuss one of the topics they have covered during...

This study aims at investigating politeness tactics including positive, negative, bald on-record, and bald-off record strategies in messages written by Iranian EFL teachers in an online group discussion. The participants of the research were 11 Iranian EFL teachers selected in an English language institute in Dezful, Iran. There were 112 politeness utterances across all messages. This paper employed a qualitative approach to examine teachers' text messages. The obtained data were analyzed based on Brown and Levinson's Politeness Theory (1987). While, the results indicated that teachers used a variety of politeness tactics such as positive, negative, bald on-record and bald off-record strategies; instructors mostly used positive strategies to maintain a close relationship with their colleagues. Furthermore, this study could help the teachers, researchers, and material developers to consider the vital role of technology as a useful technique in enhancing the process of second language teaching and learning.
