This research aims to find out how was the students constructing and building their own argument in many scientific cases, the way they reform knowledge and maintain their motivation related to their community. Through a classroom research, argumentation skills such as how they declare claim, find the data, build the reason and justify their point of view were analyzed. An intervention was done to foster their argumentation, specifically in strengthen their prior knowledge through reading science text. The results showed that the argumentation process and products increased as they experienced in citing research article and doing scientific communication in the class. The implication for best practice in teaching scientific argumentation is discussed.

The application of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in science learning c... more The application of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in science learning can facilitate communication interactions between teachers and their students while also encouraging classroom management teachers. However, not all teachers can apply essential principles in using STEM. This research aimed to get information about teachers’ readiness and confidence in preparing, teaching, and evaluating the application of STEM. We also gain some information about the difficulties and difficulties of teachers in using STEM. Data collected through a survey by distributing questionnaires to 50 teachers randomly. Data were descriptively analyzed. The results show that some teachers have not been able to integrate several science fields in an integrated manner and how to evaluate them. This finding is expected to be a recommendation for research into STEM implementation in learning.

This research was conducted to determine the understanding and environmental awareness of the secondary school community in Central Java, Indonesia, held in one junior high school and one senior high school in Semarang Regency that is applying to become Adiwiyata schools at the national level. The participants were 49 teachers and 60 students from the two schools, had been tested their environmental knowledge through questionnaires regarding the implementation of the Adiwiyata-based curriculum and its impact on environmental attitudes and scientific attitudes of students. Structured interviews were also conducted to dig deeper into the problems and solutions made by teachers related to the Adiwiyata project. The results showed that most...

The aims of this study were given information about higher education students’ awareness of the environment according to their experiences. Furthermore, implementing best practices in Experiential Learning. Environmental awareness is an attitude in seeing and managing the environment surrounding. It is about the way how students thinking and viewing about surrounding based on their own perspectives. Experiential Learning is referred to learning by doing, experiencing, discovering, and exploring. It is a philosophy and methodology where educators intentionally involve with students in direct experience and focused reflection to improve knowledge, develop skills, and clarify values. The method of this study was descriptive qualitative rese...

There were thirty five science teachers of Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) in Jawa Tengah and Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta Indonesia engaged as participants. Limited survey is used as research method, while qualitative descriptive is used to analyse the data. The result shew the difference between teachers perceptions and practicing on teaching environmental issues, but, in general, they were interested in experiential learning implementation. The strategy and instructions are discussing further.

The purpose of this study was to examine opportunities and barriers of the development of 2nd-year college students' scientific argumentation through reading activity. The practice of argumentation, as part of scientific communication, is conducted over one semester on continuous topic using inquiry-based reading instructions. This collaborative action research was held in one of the science education study programs in Central Java, Indonesia. Data sources included class discussions concentrated on individual presentation that occurred in nine weeks periods, students' portfolios, questionnaires, and lecturer field notes. The opportunities and barriers of inquiry-based reading were analysed through Rasch analysis model. The results showed that there are many students who lack understanding of scientific reading strategies and how to use the information obtained to build strong arguments. Scientific reading culture is still very low, even though through habituation this can be resolved. Teaching strategies for doing inquiry-based reading in practice are discussed and the implications of these findings were highlighted in relation to develop sharper insight of scientific argumentation in science classrooms.

Thirty biology teachers in high school participated in this study and illustrated their perception of scientific argumentation through a questionnaire. This survey research was developed to measure teachers' understanding of scientific argumentation, what they know about scientific argumentation, the differentiation between argument and reasoning, how they plan teaching strategies in order to make students' scientific argumentation better and the obstacles in teaching scientific argumentation. The result conclude that generally, teachers modified various representation to accommodate student's active participation, but most of them assume that argument and reasoning are similar. Less motivation, tools and limited science's knowledge were considered as obstacles in teaching argumentation. The findings can be helpful to improving students' abilities of doing scientific argumentation as a part of inquiry.

The study aims to assess the consistency of the material Fluid student argmentation. The population of this study are College students PGRI Madiun, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta and Lampung University. Samples using cluster random sampling, 145 samples obtained by the number of students. The study used a descriptive survey method. Data obtained through multiple-choice test and interview reasoned. Problem fluid modified from [9] and [1]. The results of the study gained an average consistency argmentation for the right consistency, consistency is wrong, and inconsistent respectively 4.85%; 29.93%; and 65.23%. Data from the study have an impact on the lack of understanding of the fluid material which is ideally in full consistency argued affect the expansion of understanding of the concept. The results of the study as a reference in making improvements in future studies is to obtain a positive change in the consistency of argumentations.

The goal of this research was to find of 2nd-year college students' argumentation performance in the science class, including the way they prepare themselves in arguing, how the argumentation performance has changed over and how they engage in argumentation practice as a part of scientific communication. Scientific Reading-based Inquiry (SRbI) was applied in order to develop students' scientific argumentation. This classroom research was held in one of the science education department in Central Java, Indonesia. Data were collected and analyzed from various sources: students' argumentation performance while presenting their ideas, their writing quality, structured interview, and lecturer notes. Performance assessment was used to qualitative declare students' understanding of argumentation practices. The results indicated that students' ability to argue in the context of scientific argumentation has varied and changed as they experienced in citing proper literature and used the information as a part of evidence and explanation. It recommends that proper instruction can bolster students in developing stronger comprehension of scientific knowledge and arguments.
