Illustrate radiographic findings of high-altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE) through the presentation of a series of cases. 2. Review physiopathological aspects of HAPE 3.Review of radiologic manisfestations os HAPE as described in scientific publications CONTENT ORGANIZATION 1. Definition of HAPE 2. Presentation of series of cases 3. Physiopathology of HAPE 4. Review of reported findings of HAPE 5. Analysis of findings of our series of cases 6. Conclusions. SUMMARY High altitude pulmonary edema is a rare entity usually encountered in high altitude sites. We present a series of 10 cases presented at our institution which lies at 2600 mt . Airspace consolidation, most frequently involving upper zones of the lungs, which resolves 48-72 hours soley with oxigen therapy are the characteristic radiographic features. There is no altitude threshold o any time limit for its occurence. Elevation of arterial capillary pressure accounts for this edema.

The first step towards this purpose is the extraction of the vessel axis by an expansible skeleton method. It uses an iterative estimation-prediction scheme, multi-scale analysis of image moments, and second-order shape model. Vessel and plaque boundaries are then detected in the planes locally orthogonal to the centerline. Contour points are determined using the local maximum of the gradient in the image along the radial directions from a point belonging to the vessel centerline. Experimental results are presented in 3D diagnostic images of pathological carotid arteries. PALABRAS CLAVE Tomografía computari- zada Arteriosclerosis Angiografía por reso- nancia magnética

A new technique for automatic segmentation of visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissue in computerized axial tomography (CT) images, by means of assessing local anatomical invariants is presented. The assessing made by an expert of the segmented images, showed low error in the quantification of VAT tissue and a high tolerance to different anatomical configurations and other kinds of image problems.

The present document proposes a technique applied to CT images already diagnosed as embolism positive. In order to perform the segmentation of the arterial tree, the lung's region is transformed into a mask, so that the processed volume gets reduced. Then, through thresholding, region growing, and morphological operations the arterial tree is segmented in 3D. The proposed technique was evaluated by means of arterial counting in each segmented slice as well as in the original ones. That technique got a 93.72% of arterial matching on six datasets of CT images.

We propose to register image subvolumes containing suspected arterial lesions at two cardiac phases, instead of performing a registration of the complete cardiac volume through the whole cardiac cycle. The method rst automatically denes the extent of the sub-volumes to be aligned, then the registration is performed in two steps: a coarse rigid alignment and a deformable registration. Our method provides comparable results and is computationally less expensive than previous approaches that make use of larger spatial and temporal information.
