Patients usually present with menstrual irregularity and pelvic pain. Microscopically, this tumour is characterized by epithelioid and spindle cells arranged in pseudolobules separated by areas with fibrous deposition of various amount. Presence of ‘staghorn like’ proliferating vasculature is the hallmark feature of this tumour. The main differential diagnoses are thecoma and fibroma. Immunohistochemistry can be used to differentiate these tumours. This relatively new entity should be kept in mind while reporting ovarian tumour in a young female. We have described SST in an 18 year old female in this case report. Bangladesh Journal of Medical Science Vol. 22 No. 03 July’23 Page : 712-717

Although immunostaining of the tumor biopsy is the standard method for diagnosis of Epstein–Barr virus-driven Hodgkin lymphoma, the invasiveness of the procedure renders it difficult and less desirable for the patients. Therefore, we designed this study to evaluate the efficiency of plasma Epstein–Barr virus DNA detection as an alternative diagnostic and prognostic method for Epstein–Barr virus–associated Hodgkin lymphoma. Methods: This analytical cross-sectional study was conducted during March 2017 to December 2018 including 43 Hodgkin lymphoma patients diagnosed histopathologically followed by the latent membrane protein-1 immunohistochemistry to determine their Epstein–Barr virus association. Plasma Epstein–Barr virus DNA in these samples was measured using quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). Results: Of total, 29 (67.44%) patients tested p...

Objective: To see the expression pattern of estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor and HER-2/neu in Bangladeshi women with invasive breast carcinoma. Method: This cross sectional study was performed in 87 cases of invasive breast cancer. Estrogen receptor (ER), Progesterone receptor (PR) and HER-2/neu expression pattern were assessed by immunohistochemistry using monoclonal antibodies for detecting estrogen and progesterone receptors, and polyclonal antibody for detecting HER-2/neu. Results: All the cases were graded according to Bloom-Richardson grading system. Of those, Grade I tumour was 18 (20.69%), Grade II tumour was 58 (66.67%) and Grade III tumour was 11(12.64%). Both ER and PR positive reactivity were same and it was found 65 (74.71%) and HER-2/neu reactivity pattern were found negative in 59 (67.82%) cases and positive in 28 (32.18%) cases. A statistically significant correlation was found between the expression of ER and low grade tumour (p=0.011) and combined estrogen and progesterone receptor positive reactivity with low grade tumour (p=0.002). Conclusion: ER, PR and HER-2/neu expression do not correlated with each other, so it is recommended that each test should be independently determined by immunohistochemistry in all cases of invasive breast cancer. All equivocal cases of HER-2/neu (score 2+) should be analyzed by FISH technique to find out the percentage of real score.

This study was aimed to assess the histological features of wound healing on day 0 and day 7 in postoperative cases of maxillofacial region in patients with or without risk factors. Microscopic examination of tissue specimen is a reliable and reasonably safe method to evaluate the histological differences. Six known risk factors for delayed wound healing were studied, which are commonly associated with maxillofacial pathology. Both clinical and histological examinations were performed for the evaluation of 32 postoperative cases. Out of 32 patients, 17 patients with risk factor were in study group and 15 apparently healthy persons without risk factor were in control group. Postoperative clinical evaluation of wound was done at 3 rd , 5 th , 7 th , 9 th , and 11 th day and histological examination of tissue specimen was done on day 0 and day 7. Based on six histological parameters, microscopic examination of tissue specimen was done by both routine Haematoxylin and Eosin stain and Masson's Trichrome stain. In day 7, healing wound of study group having risk factors showed profound amount of granulation tissue, early collagen fibres, plenty inflammatory infiltrate, vertical orientation of reticular pattern of collagen and minimum amount of mature collagen in majority of patients which indicates delayed healing. On the other hand, in control group majority showed horizontally oriented mature collagen fibres in fascicle. Statistically, significant association was found between study and control subjects in terms of pattern of collagen tissue, amount of early and mature collagen tissue at the 7 th day of follow up. Clinical evaluation also had strong association with histological state of healing.

Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) is a benign histiocytic proliferative disorder of unknown etiology. This rare condition commonly causes massive cervical lymphadenopathy. Intracranial RDD without any nodal involvement is extremely rare. Case Report. A young Bangladeshi male complained of bilateral complete blindness with left sided deafness for about three years. There was no lymphadenopathy. MRI and CT scan of brain suggested an inflammatory/neoplastic (?meningioma) lesion located at left parasellar region which extended frontally to encircle both optic nerves and also to left prepontine area. Histopathologically the lesion was diagnosed as RDD. The patient was treated with steroid and significant clinical improvement observed. Conclusion. The prognosis of intracranial RDD is not poor. It can be treated with surgery with or without corticosteroids, chemotherapy, and so forth. But as the condition is extremely rare and often misdiagnosed, the clinician, radiologist, and histopathologist should have a suspicion in their mind about the possibility of RDD.

Among this study population, the age of cases ranged from 12 years to 65 years with a mean age of 26.22 ± 2.52 years. Male and female ratio was 1:1.38. Besides lymphadenopathy, 45 patients had low grade fever; 32 patients had weight loss and 18 patients had cough. Among 50 cases of lymph node tuberculosis cervical lymphadenopathy was 41 (82.0%) cases; 6 (12.0%) cases had supraclavicular lymphadenopathy; 2 (4.0%) cases had inguinal lymphadenopathy and 1 (2.0%) had axillary lymphadenopathy. The mean duration of presentation of lymphadenopathy with standard deviation was 7.06 ± 1.6 months.

Most of the cases are benign with rare malignant transformation is approximately in 1-2% cases. Only about 200 cases have been reported from different centers since 1911. Clinical presentation is similar to that of benign cyst and diagnosis is usually made incidentally during histopathological examination of excised cyst. Case report: We report a case of 46-year-old woman who underwent Sistrunk's operation for thyroglossal cyst. Histopathological examination revealed papillary carcinoma. Thyroxine was added in suppressive dose and patient was on regular follow-up for 2 years. No thyroid abnormality was found preoperative cytology, scintigraphy as well as per-operative procedure and post-operative follow-up period.
