Earlier detection and easy monitoring is essential for the correct treatment of this problem. The pandemic time that we live in is causing the people not to go to the hospital to treat the various wounds. This paper performs the revision of the methods for measuring the wound size, but the wounds' color can detect other parameters. This study also proposed a technique for further implementing the detection of wounds with the camera available in off-the-shelf mobile devices. As future work, the method will be implemented to correct wound size in an Android application.

Research paper thumbnail of Support vector machine based nonlinear compensation for few mode fiber transmission systems

In the nearest years, new traffic demands can only be accommodated by lighting a new fiber leading to a linear increase of the cost per bit. The development of communication systems based on multi-mode fibers is considered as a promising way for solving the above problem. However, there are new impairments that we have to be addressed: linear mode coupling, differential mode delay (DMD), and inter-mode nonlinear effects [1].

At EU policy-making level, the territorial dimension of the programming cycle for 2014-20 requires place-based policies to the formulation and implementation of a new set of instruments as the smart specialization strategies (RIS3). Based on dynamic competitive advantages anchored on territorial idiosyncrasies, RIS3 are as well an ex-ante condition of access to the structural funds at both a national and regional level. RIS3 are thus seen by us as a benchmark instrument for the place-based theory. An analysis of the scientific literature and official documents of the EU and its member states supported a correlation matrix that cross-referenced the characteristics of the RIS3 with those of the regional policy paradigms. Results reveal that RIS3 are hybrid policy instruments partly place-based but still with characteristics that...

The focus of this study is to develop and implement a thermoplastic pultrusion process that can obtain a carbon fiber/polypropylene (CF/PP) filament for a 3D printing process. This development process included the design and finite element analysis of the die used to conform the filament, considering the adaptation of a filament-winding setup to achieve adequate production conditions. The finite element model tried to achieve homogeneous heating of the die with the use of a series of resistors controlled by PID controllers monitoring several thermocouples strategically positioned while the use of water circulating channels was responsible for the cooling effect. The die-heating environment is optimized for different scenarios with different initial temperatures...

This raises Data Management concerns and challenges. To address these concerns, Data Management Plans (DMP) are created. However, we claim Data Management Plans don’t cover all important concerns. To address this issue, we claim actual principles for Data Management Plans can be improved, using Risk Management guidelines and techniques taken from ISO 31000 and ISO 31010. Therefore, we propose a method suited for engineering and science projects that enables the creation of a Risk Management Plan (RMP), which intends to support all the decisions described in the DMP. The motivation requirements and evaluation of our work are represented by the MetaGen-FRAME project, and a case of a Civil Engineering Laboratory. As a result, our method proposal constitutes an approach to Data Governance for engineering and science projects.

However, these systems presented additional challenges such as the overall group-delay spread due to differential spatial-path delay and linear spatial-path coupling, and intermode nonlinear effects. The accurate modelling of these effects is preponderant on the performance optimization of mode-division multiplexing systems. This chapter reviews a method for the semianalytical modelling of linear mode coupling. Simulations using this model matched the analytical predictions for the statistics of groupdelays in few-mode fiber links, considering different coupling regimes with and without mode delay management. Furthermore, this chapter reviews the study of nonlinear performance of few-mode fiber links operating in all different linear coupling regimes and mode delay maps. The optimum link configurations minimizing the nonlinear penalty at practical levels of equalization complexity are presented. Finally, the limits of the extension of the Manakov approximation to the multi-mode case are accurately validated against a fully stochastic model developed considering distribution linear mode coupling. 10  Spatial multiplexing: modelling

We show that upon BNT162b2 vaccination, immune transfer via milk to suckling infants occurs through secretory IgA (SIgA) and T cells. Functionally, spike-SIgA was non-neutralizing and its titers were unaffected by vaccine boosting, indicating that spike-SIgA is produced in a T-cell independent manner by mammary gland. Even though their milk was devoid of neutralizing antibodies, we found that lactating women had higher frequencies of RBD-reactive circulating memory B cells and more RBD-IgG antibodies, when compared to controls. Nonetheless, blood neutralization titers in lactating and non-lactating HCW were similar. Further studies are required to determine transferred antibodies and spike-T cells complete functional profile and whether they can med...

The DSB signal requires a simpler transmitter design, as it is real-valued and can be generated using a single-drive Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM), while the SSB signal, which is frequency/phase modulated, requires an in-phase and quadrature modulator (IQM)-based transmitter. A theoretical analysis of direct-detection (DD) beating interference (BI) especially the local oscillator (LO) beating with itself, known as LO-LO BI, is presented. Both Monte Carlo simulations and experimental demonstrations are carried out. Good agreement between simulations and experiments is achieved. In comparison with the SSB system, the DSB signal-based system is affected by laser phase noise-induced power fluctuation, and also suffers a significant sensitivity penalty due to nonlinear LO-LO BI. A spectral guard band for mitigating LO-LO BI is necessary for the DSB signal, achieved at the expense of requiring a larger electrical bandwidth. In system tests with a delay line of 385 m, the SSB signal outperforms the DSB signal with a 10 dB better receiver sensitivity in the case with a guard band, and 25 dB better sensitivity without a guard band. Index Terms-Coherent detection, frequency-modulated continuous-wave, light detection and ranging. I. Compared to the conventional DBP, intra-and inter-mode cross-phase modulation can be efficiently compensated by including the effect of the interchannel walk-off in the nonlinear step of the split-step Fourier method. We found that the SCA-DBP relaxes the step size requirements by a factor of 10, while improving performance by 0.8 dB for large walk-off and strong linear coupling. For the first time, it is shown that in spatial multiplexed systems transmission performance can be improved by sub-band processing of back propagated channels.

Research paper thumbnail of Looped Polarization-Insensitive Fiber Optical Parametric Amplifiers for Broadband High Gain Applications

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2021

We investigate polarization insensitive fiber optical parametric amplifiers (FOPAs) employing a b... more We investigate polarization insensitive fiber optical parametric amplifiers (FOPAs) employing a balanced polarization diversity loop with at least two unidirectional gain fibers. We describe and compare three variants of looped polarization insensitive FOPAs optimized for noise figure, mitigation of nonlinear impairments and their trade-off, respectively. The test scenario consists of amplifying, by up to 14 dB, a set of 21 × 50 GHz-spaced channels including a 35 GBaud PDM-QPSK signal, and evaluating a power of nonlinear crosstalk, noise figure and amplified signal BER for each variant. For the first time we demonstrate a polarization insensitive FOPA amplifying WDM signals with a noise figure as low as 5.8 dB, and a polarization insensitive FOPA with output WDM signal power of 23 dBm. The testing results let us identify likely application scenarios for each looped FOPA variant. We justify potential implementation of polarization-insensitive FOPAs in future optical communication systems by arguing its ability to deliver low noise figure <6 dB for output signal power as high as 29 dBm and to enable polarization insensitive gain for the most prominent single-polarization FOPA achievements realizing ultrawide high gain.

With the emergence of mobile devices, powerful functionalities and processing capabilities have provided multiple non-invasive wound evaluation opportunities in both clinical and non-clinical settings. With current imaging technologies, objective and reliable techniques provide qualitative information that can be further processed to provide quantitative information on the size, structure, and color characteristics of wounds. These efficient image analysis algorithms help determine the injury features and the progress of healing in a short time. This paper presents a systematic investigation of articles that specifically address the measurement of wounds’ sizes with image processing techniques, promoting the connection between computer science and health. In this work we review and extend the analysis of different solution methods for the linear coupling operator in the coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equation for spatial multiplexed propagation. Numerical solution methods are compared for different operational regimes as determined by differential mode delay and linear mode coupling. Finally, we review and extend the study of digital methods to mitigate the Kerr nonlinearity for arbitrary levels of random linear mode coupling. For the first time, it is shown that in spatial multiplexing systems transmission performance can be improved by reducing the number of back propagated channels for non-negligible levels of differential mode delay.
