In this study, a novel dinuclear Ag(I)-pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylate complex with 1,3-diaminopropane... more In this study, a novel dinuclear Ag(I)-pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylate complex with 1,3-diaminopropane ligand (pda), [Ag 2 (μ-2,3-pydc) 2 (Hpda) 2 ]⋅2H 2 O (H 2 2,3-pydc = pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid), has been synthesized. The molecular structure of complex has been determined by the single crystal X-ray diffraction. The complex has been observed to crystallize in the triclinic space group P-1. The Ag(I) ion exhibits a distorted trigonal pyramidal geometry by two 2,3-pydc and one protonated monodentate Hpda ligands. The 2,3-pydc ligand acts as a tridentate bridging ligand with a new coordination mode between two Ag(I) centers through the pyridine N and carboxyl μ-O atoms, forming a 4-membered parallelogram Ag 2 O 2 ring. The most striking feature is that the structure contains both intra-and inter-molecular C\H···Ag hydrogen bonding interactions to form infinite 1D chains containing R 2 2 (8) rings.

Pd(II) complexes with the tridentate ligands heptadecafluorodecyl-thiophene-2-carboxylate (L 1 = ... more Pd(II) complexes with the tridentate ligands heptadecafluorodecyl-thiophene-2-carboxylate (L 1 = SOSR f1 , R f1 = (CH 2 ) 2 (CF 2 ) 7 CF 3 ) and heptadecafluorononil thiophene-2-carboxylate (L 2 = SOOR f2 , R f2 = (CH 2 )(CF 2 ) 7 CF 3 ) have been synthesized, and their catalytic activities for the homogeneous hydrogenation of olefins have been studied with molecular hydrogen in scCO 2 and organic solvents. Both perfluoroalkylated-heterocycle ligands potentially have three donor atom sets (SOO/SOS). Depending on the soft-hard interaction between palladium and the donor atoms of the ligands, different activities for the Pd(II) complexes were observed. The nature of the solvent had an effect upon the hydrogenation of olefins. The effects of temperature and H 2 pressure on the hydrogenation of styrene were also investigated.

A fluoroalkene-soluble tetrakis[heptadecafluorononyl]-substituted Pd(II)-phthalocyanine complex h... more A fluoroalkene-soluble tetrakis[heptadecafluorononyl]-substituted Pd(II)-phthalocyanine complex has been studied for olefin (styrene, 1-octene, trans-2-octene and cyclohexene) hydrogenation with molecular hydrogen in an organic/fluorous biphasic system [n-hexane/perfluoromethylcyclohexane (PFMCH)]. The palladium complex was found to be an active catalyst for styrene (100% conversion, TON = 634) and 1-octene (92%, TON = 596) at 80 °C and 15 bar of H2 after 6 h of reaction time. The catalyst was recycled in nine consecutive reactions for the hydrogenation of styrene without the loss of activity or metal contamination.

A new water soluble palladium(II) complex (2) derived from N,N,N 0 ,N 0 -tetrakis(2-hydroxyethyl)... more A new water soluble palladium(II) complex (2) derived from N,N,N 0 ,N 0 -tetrakis(2-hydroxyethyl)ethylenediamine (edteH 4 ) (1) was synthesized in high yield and characterized by 1 H, 13 C, HMQC and COSY NMR spectroscopy. X-ray diffraction studies on a single crystal of 2 confirmed the cis square planar geometry; the edteH 4 ligand (1) is k 2 (N,N)-coordinated with four pendant CH 2 CH 2 OH groups. This new complex [PdCl 2 (edteH 4 )] (2) and the previously synthesized triethanolamine complex [Pd(OCH 2 CH 2 N (CH 2 CH 2 OH) 2 ) 2 ] (3) were tested as catalysts for the Suzuki/Miyaura cross-coupling reaction of various aryl bromides with phenylboronic acid in water. Electronically activated aryl bromides, such as 4-bromoacetophenone and 4-bromobenzaldehyde undergo the cross-coupling with extremely high turnover numbers (TON) of up to 1,00,000 without organic solvent.
