In seeking to address this, we observed that qualitative methodologies for working with especially young adolescents and evaluating programme effectiveness with young people remain relatively underdeveloped. In an effort to contribute to this fledgling field, the GAGE consortium undertook extensive formative fieldwork in five diverse contexts in 2016 to pilot a range of different methodological approaches and instruments, some inspired by studies undertaken in the Global North, others from the Global South, and through our team’s collective brainstorming on what had worked with this age group in past research. The current set of tools reflects the collective learning among...

There have been many mental health support programs in schools for students, most of which are predesigned. The objectives of this paper are: i) To introduce the co-creation approach; and ii) To narratively describe the process of co-creating a mental health promotion program for 04 secondary schools and 04 high schools in Nghe An and Khanh Hoa, Vietnam. Students, teachers, parents and local authorities were the involved stakeholders. Mixed methods including narrative research, observations, open-ended and closed-ended questionnaires were used. The results show that using co-creation approach to develop a mental health promotion program is feasible and applicable in Vietnam. Challenges, learnt lessons and discussion about feasibility of the co-creation process to develop the school-based mental health promotion program are also mentioned in the paper.

In Cuba, we would like to acknowledge the support provided by the Centro Cristiano de Reflexion y Diálogo (CCRD), our in-country partners, who hosted and facilitated the study and allowed us to use their contacts and members to access study respondents. In particular, we would like to thank the Director, Rita Garcia, for her overall support, and Valia Solis and Rocío Fernández, who led on study participant recruitment and data collection, along with other members of the team. We would also like to thank our interpreter, Miguel Angel Gonzalez, for his support, especially during the training and debriefing sessions. We would also like to thank the following: Ailynn Torres Santana, for all her work and support from identifying relevant materials and key informants to leading data collection and reviewing this report; Professor Maxine Molyneux, for her valuable guidance and comments; Carmen Leon-Himmelstine and Lucia Rost, for leading the literature review, which provided several of the secondary sources that appear here; and Kathryn O'Neill, Caelin Robinson and Hannah Bass for editorial support and production. Finally, thanks go to all the respondents who gave us their precious time and shared their experiences in relation to sexual and reproductive health as well as work and economic empowerment. The study has used a 'cluster analysis' methodology that allows individuals and households to be seen in context, and in its remapping of the clusters originally surveyed has allowed surprising insights into the dynamics of social change to be developed. There are significant contrasts between the two study sites. In Mpongwe, a major maize production centre near the Copperbelt markets, maize production, dependent on agricultural inputs, has become the dominant production activities and fuelled a growing inequality between those successful in securing access to the necessary inputs, including draft power, and those who cannot. By contrast, in the Teta area, market liberalisation has deprived the area of access to inputs, and in this system maize production has declined, and the farming systems now consists of diverse food crops, not dependent on external inputs.
