Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition has been used to grow all layers starting from liquid metalorganic compounds. Co-doping assures chemical (Ge) and geometrical (P) homogeneity with optical fibers and allows to propagation losses of 1 dB/cm (not reflowed samples). Low cost, high realization rate and process compatibility with

The requirements of the ATLAS Insertable B-Layer (IBL) detector ask for larger and thinner chips, two critical parameters for bonding processes. We report on the research and development carried on with Selex to produce modules with 100 μm thick and 18.8 × 20.2 mm2 area read out chips bonded with indium bumps.

The indium deposition and flip-chip process are described together with an overview of the chip stripping machine that allows defective modules to be reworked. The production is half-way through at the time of this writing. This paper also

Research paper thumbnail of Analysis, Design and Experimental Validation of Modified Simple Soft Switching DC-DC Boost Converter

International Journal of Emerging Electric Power Systems, 2015

This paper investigates a modified simple soft switching dc-dc converter for low power applicatio... more This paper investigates a modified simple soft switching dc-dc converter for low power applications. This simple topology uses an auxiliary switch, an inductor and a capacitor to operate the converter without switching losses. The efficiency of the converter is improved by transferring the energy that would be dissipated during the switching to the load. The main switch turns-on with zero current switching (ZCS) and turns-off with zero voltage switching (ZVS), while the auxiliary switch turns-on and turns-off with zero voltage switching (ZVS). The detailed theoretical analysis and the design equations are described. In addition to that, the analysis of proposed converter is demonstrated by both simulation and experimental results for effectiveness of the study.

It provides numerous advantages with respect to already proposed approaches, in term of design complexity and reduced need for external components (phase shifters, beam splitter) for pre-processing of the RF signal to be fed to the modulator. Results of fabrication and preliminary characterization of the device are presented.
