A series of organotin(IV) derivatives of N, N'-bis(2-pyridil)oxalamide (pod) has been prepared in... more A series of organotin(IV) derivatives of N, N'-bis(2-pyridil)oxalamide (pod) has been prepared in ethanol affording [SnCl 2 R 2 (pod)] (R = phenyl 2, butyl 4, vinyl 7), [SnClR 3 (pod)] (R = phenyl 3, butyl 5) and (SnCl;,R(pod)] (R-butyl 6). The products were characterised by techniques such as multinuclcar NMR ('Η, n C{H}, liy Sn{H}) infrared and " 9 Sn Mössbauer spectroscopy, thermogravimetry analysis (TG), melting point and microanalysis. The overall data point out the formation of six-coordinate Sn(IV) nucleus with the ligand performing a cis-and ira/is-configuration with respect to the central oxalamide CC bond. U C NMR strongly indicates retention of the Sn-0 bond in solution for complex 7 but not for 6, which switches over to an Sn-N bond while the opposite has been revealed in the case of 5. In all complexes, the ligand is acting in a bidentate coordination mode by means of bonding the Sn(IV) centre through the nitrogen or oxygen atoms.

The complexes [Sn{S 2 CN(CH 2)4} 2 Cl 2 ], 1, [Sn{S 2 CN(CH 2) 4 } 2 Ph 2 ] {Ph=phenyl}, 2, [Sn{S... more The complexes [Sn{S 2 CN(CH 2)4} 2 Cl 2 ], 1, [Sn{S 2 CN(CH 2) 4 } 2 Ph 2 ] {Ph=phenyl}, 2, [Sn{S 2 CN(CH 2) 4 }Ph 3 ], 3, [Sn{S 2 CN(CH 2) 4 } 2 n-Bu 2 ] {«-Bu=«-butyl}, 4, [Sn{S 2 CN(CH 2) 4 }Cy 3 ] {Cy=Cyclohexyl}, 5, [Sn{S 2 CN(C 2 H 5) 2 } 2 Cl 2 ], 6, [Sn{S 2 CN(C 2 H 5) 2 } 2 Ph 2 ], 7, [Sn{S 2 CN(C 2 H 5) 2 }Ph 3 ], 8, [Sn{S 2 CN(C 2 H 5) 2 } 3 Ph], 9 and [Sn{S 2 CN(C 2 H 5) 2 }Cy 3 ], 10 were used in this work. The in vitro antibacterial activity study was performed against Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923) and all complexes were active. The activity was measured in terms of inhibition zones (mm) and minimum inhibitory concentration test, MIC ^g mL' 1). In terms of inhibition zones compounds 6 and 9 presented the best results. Complexes where the-SnPh 3 moiety is present possess the smaller MIC values. The apparent contradiction of the tests might be related to diffusion properties of the organotin complexes.

Equimolar reactions between organotin(IV) precursors of SnCl x R 4. x (R = Bu, Ph, χ = 1, 4) and ... more Equimolar reactions between organotin(IV) precursors of SnCl x R 4. x (R = Bu, Ph, χ = 1, 4) and aminoguanidine bicarbonate in methanol has afforded 2:1 and 1:1 (M:L) carbonate complexes as well as 1:2 semicarbazide derivative. The products were characterised by spectroscopic methods such as multinuclear NMR ('Η, i3 C and ll9 Sn), Müssbauer and infrared spectroscopy as well as microanalysis and melting point. The butyl and phenyl derivatives have a 4-and 5-coordinated metal centre respectively with bridgingbidentate and bridging-tridentate carbonate. For the tetrahalide metal precursor, a 6-coordinated tin(IV) derivative has been achieved with a bidentate semicarbazide towards the metal centre.
