The study investigated the effect of Laboratory practical on senior secondary school students’ pe... more The study investigated the effect of Laboratory practical on senior secondary school students’ performance in Biology in Ilorin South LGA, Kwara State. Three research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. Descriptive survey was adopted for this study. The population comprised SS1 to SS3 Biology students in Ilorin South LGA, Kwara state. Questionnaires were designed for one hundred and eighty (180) Biology students and the data collected were analyzed using descriptive mean, t-test and analysis of variance ANOVA. The findings revealed that the impact of Laboratory practical was significant to the students’ performance. There was no significant difference in students' opinion towards the impact of Laboratory practical on the performance of students based on gender and school type. The following recommendations are made: Adequate laboratory equipment should be provided for senior secondary school students to ease the learning difficulty experienced in learning Biology practical. School authorities as well as teachers should ensure that both male and female students engage in the carrying out Biology practical exercise in the laboratory. Government and private school owners should ensure the provision of well-structured infrastructural facilities and equipment that would improve practical work.

This study aimed at observing the correlation between students’ learning style and performance of Nigerian students in biology. The sample of this study consisted of 100 students which were randomly selected from the secondary schools in Ifelodun LGA, Kwara State, Nigeria. The two validated instrument used for data collection were Grasha & Reichmann’s Student Learning Scale and VAK/VARK Learning Style. The data gained were analyzed using percentage, Pearson correlation, and Chi-Square test. The study findings indicated that: (i) there was a negative correlation between students’ academic performance and visual (-0.061) and kinesthetic learning style (-0.50), as well as positive correlation between the performance and auditory learning style (0.108). The target population for the study was all Chemistry teachers in Kwara State, Nigeria, three hundred and eighty-two (382) public senior secondary school and three hundred and sixtytwo (362) private schools. The researcher designed teachers' questionnaire was administered to one hundred and firth-five (155) teachers selected from thirty (30) public and twenty (20) private secondary schools in Kwara State. Researcherdesigned validated questionnaire was used to elicit information from the respondents on the teachers 'influence towards the performance of students in senior secondary schools. Three research questions were answered and two hypotheses were tested. Percentage, t-test statistics and ANOVA were used to analyze the data collected. The finding of this study revealed that effect of Chemistry teachers towards the performance of students in senior secondary school in Kwara State, Nigeria was significant based on their responses and academic qualification but not significant on gender. Based on the findings of this study, it is hereby recommended that; Report of this study implies that educational administrators must ensure adequate and sufficient moral support for chemistry teachers. This will enable teachers to become more committed in the discharge of their duties. Chemistry teachers should get teacher training, should be given due respect and should be paid according to their qualifications and abilities among others.

The objective of this study was to determine the influence of Biology teachers' on academic perfo... more The objective of this study was to determine the influence of Biology teachers' on academic performance of students in senior secondary schools in SouthWest Geopolitical zone, Nigeria. It was a descriptive research of the survey type in which simple random sampling technique was used to select 102 senior secondary schools in SouthWest zone, Nigeria. Two hundred and four (204) Biology teachers was involved in the study. The data collected were analyzed using frequency count, percentages and t-test. These were used to answer the research questions and also test the hypotheses. The findings of the study showed that Biology teachers generally had positive influence on academic performance of students while there was no significant difference based on gender and years of teaching experience. It is recommended that the adequate instructional materials should be made available for Biology teachers to further enhance their positive influence on the students' academic performance. Both male and female science teachers should be encouraged by provision of special incentive for improvement on their influence on students' academic performance. Both less experienced and experienced Biology teachers should be encouraged to acquire more professional experience in order to improve more on their influence to students' academic performance.
