The imprecision and subjectiveness appear especially when the decision maker has to assess the importance coefficients for the criteria and the performances for the alternatives. In the proposed procedure, the subjective appreciations of the decision maker are modeled using the linguistic values represented by fuzzy numbers. Finally, an application to the evaluation of some radioactive waste storage alternatives is presented. Although, in this paper, fuzzy models are used for representing the imprecision and subjectiveness of the decision problems, the fuzzy models can be seen as essential tools in generating new knowledge by experiments with these models. Through such knowledge, decision makers could better understand the impact of alternative decisions on economic performance, resource use and environmental quality.

We use the net present value model as a measure of profitability of an investment project. This measure is discussed in relation to their applicability and interpretation in risk analysis models. It is shown that it may be worth developing an integrated decision analysis procedure. The proposed procedure includes the Monte Carlo simulation to obtain a probability distribution of net present values, the calculation of the expected net present value, risk profiles analysis by stochastic dominance criterion, and as a final step the sensitivity analysis using utility functions with different levels of risk aversion. Numerical results obtained with this procedure are given. Finally, we discuss about relatively new approach of "real options" which can be used to expand our analysis methods.

Also, the probability of the fuzzy event is presented and is applied to calculate the probability of the fuzzy event "the project X is a good investment". This process has to enable the decision maker to compare several alternative investments from the fuzzy logic perspective and, in this way, allows him to include the uncertainty that comes with the problem in reality. Moreover, by experiments with the proposed fuzzy model the user can obtain new knowledge for investment risk analysis.

It is presented a model for determining the of activity levels of decision making units so as to achieve both fuzzy objectives of achieving global target levels of coordination unit on the inputs and outputs and individual target levels of decision making units, and then some methods to resolve fuzzy models are proposed.

The explicit management of knowledge through distribution and storage of knowledge in different ways, promote the continuous update and development of knowledge, skills and competences, that is to say, promotes learning. In addition, knowledge management encourages employees to share their experiences and knowledge, teaching each other in formal structured activities or informally in the day to day business. In this way, knowledge management facilitates the creation of a knowledge enabling environment that creates conditions for skills and competence development.

Theoretical and Empirical Researches in Urban Management, Feb 1, 2009

Simulation models are increasingly being used to simulate processes in many different domains, including urban management, for solving decision problems. Usually, during the model development, the simulation team developing the model must rely on the knowledge provided by domain experts. In order to facilitate this simulation modelling process, appropriate collaborative knowledge management tools may be utilised. On the other hand, simulation models can facilitate knowledge management activities and processes as models could be used to evaluate decision alternatives before they are implemented or models could be used to simulate missing business data needed for discovering knowledge patterns. The paper concludes with a brief literature review of the some interdisciplinary applications that involve the combined use of both approaches. These applications include the use of system dynamics simulation for analysis of knowledge management strategies in organisational populations, learning curves, capital human modelling, and investigation of the influence of knowledge transfer and proximity (geographical, cognitive, and organizational) on the firm agglomeration process inside an industrial district.

Mainly, we have shown that there exists a vector α > 0 such that the solution to the problem min , is a solution to the problem min σxσ+, Ax = b, x ⩾ 0, where σxσ+ denotes the cardinal of x, i.e. the number of strictly positive components of x, thus obtaining a new model for solving in real numbers a Generalized Lattice Point Problem (Cabot, [3]).The function d(x) has been introduced by use as a general tool for solving integer or mixed-integer problems due to its property of having almost everywhere almost discrete values. In the meantime we noticed that this function may represent a membership function of a fuzzy set.In this paper, we study in detail the features of this membership function and show that Cabot's results [3] may be derived in this more general setting using the complementary function .At the same time, in the paper there are some production scheduling models within the framework of fuzzy-sets theory. To this end, a nonconvex production model is presented and it is shown that the value of the objective function for a production programming model whose deman and/or resource vector components are parametrized, may be considered as a grade of membership of the solution of the parametrized model to the feasible set of the nonparametrized production programming model.Consequently, we get a nonconvex production programming model whose convex envelope is linear with coefficients which are in an inverse proportior to the magnitude of the nonparametrized demand or resource vector components. This result agrees with the intuitive idea that a high level of demand or resource allows a greater interval of variation in the production process than a lower level of demand or resource.
