Because of the multi-orientation of lines and their dispersion in the page, we use an image paving allowing us to progressively and locally determine the lines. The paving is initialized with a small window and then its size is corrected by extension until enough lines and connected components were found. We use the Snake for line extraction. Once the paving is established, the orientation is determined using the Wigner-Ville distribution on the histogram projection profile. This local orientation is then enlarged to limit the orientation in the neighborhood. Afterwards, the text lines are extracted locally in each zone basing on the follow-up of the baselines and the proximity of connected components. Finally, the connected components that overlap and touch in adjacent lines are separated. The morphology analysis of the terminal letters of Arabic words is here considered. The proposed approach has been experimented on 100 documents reaching an accuracy of about 98.6%.

This article presents new theoretical and practical results about the separability of the SSA and introduces a new method called sliding SSA. First, the SSA is combined with an unsupervised classification algorithm to provide a fully automatic data-driven component extraction method for which we investigate the limitations for components separation in a theoretical study. Second, the detailed automatic SSA method is used to design an approach based on a sliding analysis window which provides better results than the classical SSA method when analyzing non-stationary signals with a time-varying number of components. Finally, the proposed sliding SSA method is compared to the Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) and to the synchrosqueezed Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT), applied on both synthetic and real-world signals.

The zeros of the spectrogram have proven to be a relevant feature to describe the time-frequency ... more The zeros of the spectrogram have proven to be a relevant feature to describe the time-frequency structure of a signal, originated by the destructive interference between components in the time-frequency plane. In this work, a classification of these zeros in three types is introduced, based on the nature of the components that interfere to produce them. Echoing noiseassisted methods, a classification algorithm is proposed based on the addition of independent noise realizations to build a 2D histogram describing the stability of zeros. Features extracted from this histogram are later used to classify the zeros using a non-supervised clusterization algorithm. A denoising approach based on the classification of the spectrogram zeros is also introduced. Examples of the classification of zeros are given for synthetic and real signals, as well as a performance comparison of the proposed denoising algorithm with another zero-based approach.

Indeed, compared to vibration and temperature analysis, current measurement proves to be a convenient and non-invasive alternative. Moreover, it has proven to be a reliable method since many mechanical and electrical faults manifest as side-band spectral components generated around the fundamental frequency component of the motor's current. These components are called interharmonics and they are a major focus of fault detection using MCSA. However, the main drawback of this approach is that the interference of other more prevalent components such as the fundamental and noise components can obstruct the effect of interharmonics in the spectrum and may therefore affect fault detection accuracy. Thus, we propose in this paper an alternative approach that aims to decompose the different current components using a model based on a Vandermonde matrix, in order to monitor each component independently. Then, the tracking of each distinct component in time and spectral domains is implemented. This is achieved by estimating their respective relevant parameters using the Gradient Descent algorithm. This method has been favorably compared to an existing estimation algorithm (MUSIC) and its efficiency has been validated. The results of this work prove to be promising and establish the parametric tracking of the electrical current components using the Gradient Descent algorithm as a reliable monitoring approach.

Using this new transform, we propose to compute a sharpened time-frequency representation by rewording the reassigned scalogram and the (first and second-order) synchrosqueezed CWT.
