A group of wireless devices connected to the telephone network, send the data collected by different users to a common database. At the same time, every archaeological finding is integrated into the information system when it is tagged with a NFC transponder that can communicate with the mobile devices equipped with a NFC interface. In this way, the identification code attached to the element together with the information recorded inside the memory of the NFC tag determine which system services automatically start up, which tasks are requested to the user and which actions must be prevented or unless warned as undesirable along the entire process of the archaeological research. This technique improves archaeological work in several ways. First, it speeds up the process of collecting, saving, updating and duplicating the data associated with every piece of material. Second, smart NFC objects helps researchers to make decisions about the next steps in the archaeological research, because they stored the information that determines the necessities of every artifact. Third, it reduces human error in transcribing information or in performing incorrect actions with a specific material. This work extends the use of NFC technology and mobile systems to a new field, the archaeological research.

This technique improves archaeological work in several ways. First, it speeds up the process of collecting, saving, updating and duplicating the data associated with every piece of material. Second, it increases the information that can be stored with the material and can be retrieved without connection to the database. Third, it reduces human error in transcribing information. Finally, RFID labelling facilitates the process of localizing stored material and controlling its movement.

An integral approach is adopted, incorporating various levels of information derived from different forms of analysis —typological, multivariate, the study of decoration and textures, and archaeometric characterisation. Preliminary results confirm the validity of this methodology, insofar as the questions asked during the research have found an answer and we have been able to link ceramic productions with individual workshops based on texture, forms, and decoration. In addition, we have improved our understanding of the technological processes that were involved in the production of Celtiberian pottery.

Ancient urban areas are so affecterd by erosive/accumulative processes that their study and interpretation is only possible by means of geoarchaeological reconstructions of their original characteristics. In this poster we present four large sites with several occupation levels. We analyse the difficulties that each of them posed to their study and their relation to environment degradation.

Remote sensing, as a non-destructive technique, enable the measurement of spectral anomalies and biophysical parameters which may be indicative of the state of preservation of the big manmade structures, natural ecosystems or diseases that affect them. We investigate the spectral characteristics of the reflectance and emissivity in several multispectral scenes of the pre-Hispanic archaeological sites of the Guayabo (Costa Rica) and Fonseca Gulf (Nicaragua, Honduras and Salvador) what supposed an ancestral migration route. Spectral ranges of the visible-near infrared (VNIR), shortwave infrared (SWIR) and thermal infrared (TIR) from hyperspectral data cubes of HyMAP and MASTER have been used. Spectral patterns and thermal anomalies have been analyzed, as well as the capabilities of DInSAR as evidences of buried remains or pathologies in the natural environment. First results, land cover changes and their consequences in the cultural heritage study and protection are discussed.
