Our results suggest that service innovation performance enhances the banking industry’s corporate sustainability. In addition, we contribute by proposing a conceptual framework for understanding the link between innovation performance and corporate sustainability in the banking industry. The framework consists of three underlying dimensions—the antecedents of innovation performance, the specific innovation performance initiatives, and how these initiatives are converted into improved corporate sustainability. Our findings provide insights for academics and practitioners on the dynamics between service innovation performance and corporate sustainability in the banking sector. Further, due to the intermediation role of banks in the economy, their evolution towards sustainable banking constitutes a lever for sustainability across other industries and...

Strategy and Performance, 2004

To do this, the Resource-Based View of the Firm (RBV) is taken as a basis. The model proposed analyzes a series of points in a combined way, so differentiating itself from other work in this field in which a partial and non-dynamic vision is set forth. An integrated analysis is useful, and one which introduces the dynamic aspects inherent in development. The analysis of these aspects within one model, with the use of an adequate technique such as the simultaneous equation model, make it possible to reach a better understanding of the phenomenon and to build a greater explicative power. This study uses the Survey of Business Strategies (Encuesta Sobre Estrategias Empresariales) for the period 1990-97 and for 828 firms. The results appear to support the RBV postulates, considered from a dynamic perspective.

The survey reveals a considerable heterogeneity of empirical results that cannot be explained fully by methodological issues. We aim to provide further explanations of the possible causes of that heterogeneity. In particular, we emphasise a set of issues that, in our view, are critical to understanding the potential effect of public R&D subsidies on private R&D spending. Special attention is paid to the dynamic aspects and composition of firm R&D, the constraints faced by the firm (such as financial constraints), and the amount and source of public subsidies. None of these issues have been investigated in depth. We formulate a set of research assumptions to guide future empirical research in this field.

Faced to this situation football clubs have designed new strategies that have turned them into modern sports&media companies. Real Madrid's president Florentino Pérez is a perfect example of this new strategic view in a Spanish sport organization. The main contribution of the new management model applied to the club has been value brand progressive enhancement and new forms of brand exploitation from a new marketing strategy. As a result of this new strategy, incomes from brand exploitation have increased importantly and Real Madrid is quite near to obtain a leadership position between football clubs around the world. From this experience it's possible to extract some interesting implications for sport companies' management.
