The study was carried out with 11 teachers who have professional experience ranging between 3 to 19 years from private and public preschools. The study was specified according to criterion sampling strategy under the purposeful sampling method. The data gathered via open-ended questions and the phenomenology method, one of the qualitative research designs, was used. The qualitative content analyses technique was applied for analyzing the data. It was reached remarkable themes about the preschool teachers’ pedagogical challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic based on the analysis of data. The aim of this study is to examine 4-7 year old children’s drawings of the school of their dream... more The aim of this study is to examine 4-7 year old children’s drawings of the school of their dreams and to compare them with today’s schools. In a total of 45 children who attend private institutions in Ankara participated in the research. The method of the research is qualitative and data collection tools consisting of picture drawing and interview forms directed at children after drawing are also prepared with a qualitative approach. Children’s drawings were examined according to their developmental stages and children’s dream schools were compared with today’s schools by performing descriptive statistics on drawings and responses to interviews. According to the findings, drawings of younger age range were more unusual than drawings of older age range and physical structures, materials; and education programs of existing schools exhibit a remote image of the dream schools of a large portion of the children who were involved in the survey.

Within the scope of this research, 66 works (36 experimental, 28 theoretical, and two both experimental and theoretical) were reviewed and discussed by following the systematic literature review process. After reviewing process, the fundamental elements of personal play identity can be examined under four themes, namely play, personality, socio-culture and environment, and economics and technology. The evolutionary nature of play, which can be defined as an individual’s complex specialized identity is considered as a part of their development, allows personal play identity to be transferred to the next generations as it shaped by the continuous interaction of factors, such as socio-cultural environment, economy and technology. ABSTRACT This study sought an answer to the question whether the digitalization of play is techno... more ABSTRACT This study sought an answer to the question whether the digitalization of play is technological mutation or digital evolution. To this end, 14 studies published over the last five years were reviewed and discussed under four themes, namely digital technology and children, parents’, and teachers’ perceptions of digital technology, screen effects, and digital-based learning. The review showed that digital technologies had entered children’s daily lives and digital applications had become an important part of early childhood education programmes. Although digital technologies offer positive contributions to children’s learning and improve some skills (creativity, problem-solving, and even motor development), it seems as a potential danger to reduce children’s play process only to the use of digital games. If this happens, the evolutionary and genetic origin of play, which has an older history than humanity, will be seriously devastated.

Abstract This study aimed to examine preschool children’s epistemological views in the context of... more Abstract This study aimed to examine preschool children’s epistemological views in the context of the concept of time via their drawings of the time machine. The study was conducted with 30 five-year-old children (17 girls and 13 boys) attending state and private preschools in the academic year 2018/2019. The data collection tools used in the study were the Test for Creative Thinking - Drawing Production TCT-DP, Children’s Thoughts on Time Questionnaire (CTTQ) and Children’s Epistemological Views Questionnaire (CEVQ). Of the mixed methods typologies, the fully mixed sequential dominant status-qualitative design was employed. The results obtained from the study indicated that the time machine drawings of almost half the participating children included creative elements and logical thinking products. In addition, 40% of the children’s responses reflected sophisticated epistemological views such as scientific, imaginative/science fiction-based, divergent and eccentric approaches and non-authority figures regarding the concept of time. In conclusion: contrary to Piegatian interpretation, our results show that five-year old children can demonstrate abstract scientific understanding regarding the concept of time and preschoolers’ epistemic approach has a critical role in determining their development of abstract cognitive concepts.
Innovation has been broadly recognized as a fundamental source of competitive advantage for organ... more Innovation has been broadly recognized as a fundamental source of competitive advantage for organizations. However, the literature does not present studies that relate the influence of bricolage on frugal innovation, which in turn stands out as a form of innovation indicated for resource-constrained contexts as in the case of Brazil. Then, this study sought to highlight, through the perspective of the organizational learning theory, that companies need to be able to recombine and create their resources through the bricolage behavior in order to develop the frugal innovation in emerging markets. Thus, in this research we tried to answer the following question: Is bricolage an antecedent of frugal innovation for companies in emerging markets? Therefore, in this work the main objective was to identify whether bricolage can influence the development of frugal innovation. This study relied on a systematic review of the frugal innovation literature to provide a better understanding of this emerging theme. In addition, it was also analyzed whether bricolage is stimulated in crisis contexts, evidenced in emerging markets due to resource scarcity, financial crises and political instability, as in the case of Brazil. In this sense, the following hypotheses were established: H1: The bricolage process is positively related to frugal innovation; H2: Organizational innovativeness positively moderates the relationship between bricolage and frugal innovation; H3: A crisis context encourages the use of bricolage in companies to develop resources. These hypotheses were statistically tested using the structural equation modeling technique, using a database collected by the survey method encompassing 215 valid questionnaires answered by companies in Brazil. The results allowed to support the hypothesis H1 and H3 confirming, respectively, the positive influence of bricolage in the development of frugal innovation, and the influence of the crisis context on the bricolage behavior. The hypothesis H2 was not confirmed, denoting that organizational innovativeness does not necessarily moderate the relationship between bricolage and frugal innovation. This study has contributed to the literature of bricolage and frugal innovation, as well as established a connection between both, evidencing the bricolage as antecedent to develop frugal innovation, especially in contexts of crisis in emerging markets such as experienced in Brazil.

Based on the results of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2015, this stud... more Based on the results of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2015, this study aimed to determine the extent to which affective characteristics such as epistemic beliefs, motivation and selfefficacy predicted students' performance in science and whether this differed between countries that exhibited different levels of achievement. In accordance with the purpose of the study, two countries were randomly selected from each of the three achievement levels defined by PISA (above average, average, and below average) and all the students that took the test from the selected countries were included in the analysis. A simple linear regression analysis was performed using the IDB Analyzer program, which facilitated the analysis of the layered data collected in this study. According to the results, it was determined that the students' affective characteristics predicted their science performance by 30% regardless of the achievement level.

The aim of this research was to develop a STEAM-based program for teaching middle school students... more The aim of this research was to develop a STEAM-based program for teaching middle school students the concept of time to enhance their computational thinking skills. The proposed Time Teaching Program (TTP) consists of modules and activities on the definition of time, historical development of time measurement tools, universal time measurement system, space-time theory, and time as a fourth dimension. To determine the effectiveness of TTP and its effect on middle school students' computational thinking skills, a mixed methodology was adopted in which both a quasi-experimental design including a pretest-posttest control group and an observational case study were used concurrently. The study group consisted of eighth-grade students from a public middle school in Turkey, selected according to the convenient sampling method. A computational thinking test was used to collect quantitative data, and observations and semistructured interviews were utilized for the collection of qualitative data. According to the results of analyses, when the effects of the pretest scores were not considered, there was a significant difference (F. 469 , 1, R 2 = .518) between the final test scores of the experimental and control groups in favor of the former. Based on these findings, it can be stated that the proposed STEAM-based program significantly improves the computational thinking skills of eighth-grade middle school students.

This study examines preschool children's learning styles by utilising a mathematical model. The m... more This study examines preschool children's learning styles by utilising a mathematical model. The model uses a Euclidean geometry algorithm to generate a graphical representation of the learning styles. The algorithm of the developed mathematical model was developed as a practical application of the theoretical assumptions. Index of Learning Styles for Children (ILSC), developed by one of the researchers, has been applied to a total of 301 five-year-old children. Results of the study indicate that children utilise the active, cognitive and visual learning styles under the control of the right hemisphere, and the sequential (analytical) learning styles under the control of the left hemisphere. The modelling algorithm reveals that the children's learning style preferences are shifted towards the right hemisphere at the rate of 8%. The results also provide empirical support that the developed model can mathematically explain the theoretical assumptions it is based on.

Bireyin zihinsel, duygusal ve sosyal becerilerini geliştirmeyi esas alan eğitim, çağın enerjisine... more Bireyin zihinsel, duygusal ve sosyal becerilerini geliştirmeyi esas alan eğitim, çağın enerjisine veya zamanın ruhuna göre değişimler gösterebilmektedir. İnsanlık tarihinde tarım ve sanayi devriminden sonra en etkili dönüm noktası bilişim devrimi olmuştur. Yirmi birinci yüzyıldaki teknolojik gelişmelere koşut olarak farklı yazarlık türlerinin oluştuğu bilinmektedir. Bu bağlamda kâğıt temelli yazma çalışmaları yerini yavaş yavaş elektronik yazmaya bırakmaktadır. Yenilenen öğretim programları da bu değişimi göz önünde bulundurarak e-posta, blog vs. gibi ekran yazma becerilerine ait türlere yer vermektedir. Bu araştırmanın amacı, Türkçe öğretmeni adaylarının bir sosyal medya uygulaması olan Twitter kanalıyla tweet atma becerilerini, okudukları farklı metin türlerinden hareketle anahtar kelimeleri kullanma becerileri açısından incelemektir. Çalışma grubunu İstanbul'daki bir devlet üniversitesinin Türkçe eğitimi bölümünde öğrenim gören 36 öğretmen adayı oluşturmaktadır. Çalışma grubundaki öğretmen adaylarına "haber metni, küçürek öykü, köşe yazısı, anı ve deneme" türlerinde birer metin okutulmuş, metinden anladıklarını Twitter uygulamasının bir sınırlılığı olan 140 karakterle ifade etmeleri istenmiştir. Araştırmanın sonuçlarına göre, Türkçe öğretmeni adaylarının deneme ve köşe yazısı türlerinde daha başarılı olduğu; haber, küçürek öykü ve anı metninde ise başarılarının daha düşük seviyede olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Genel anlamda Türkçe öğretmeni adaylarının 3 ve üzerinde anahtar kelimeyi kullanamadıkları görülmüş, bu sebeple okudukları bir metinden hareketle çıkarımlarını yazılı olarak ifade etmede zorlandıkları sonucuna varılmıştır.

Results of the study indicate that children utilise the active, cognitive and visual learning styles under the control of the right hemisphere, and the sequential (analytical) learning styles under the control of the left hemisphere. The modelling algorithm reveals that the children's learning style preferences are shifted towards the right hemisphere at the rate of 8%. The results also provide empirical support that the developed model can mathematically explain the theoretical assumptions it is based on.

Bireyin zihinsel, duygusal ve sosyal becerilerini geliştirmeyi esas alan eğitim, çağın enerjisine... more Bireyin zihinsel, duygusal ve sosyal becerilerini geliştirmeyi esas alan eğitim, çağın enerjisine veya zamanın ruhuna göre değişimler gösterebilmektedir. İnsanlık tarihinde tarım ve sanayi devriminden sonra en etkili dönüm noktası bilişim devrimi olmuştur. Yirmi birinci yüzyıldaki teknolojik gelişmelere koşut olarak farklı yazarlık türlerinin oluştuğu bilinmektedir. Bu bağlamda kâğıt temelli yazma çalışmaları yerini yavaş yavaş elektronik yazmaya bırakmaktadır. Yenilenen öğretim programları da bu değişimi göz önünde bulundurarak e-posta, blog vs. gibi ekran yazma becerilerine ait türlere yer vermektedir. Bu araştırmanın amacı, Türkçe öğretmeni adaylarının bir sosyal medya uygulaması olan Twitter kanalıyla tweet atma becerilerini, okudukları farklı metin türlerinden hareketle anahtar kelimeleri kullanma becerileri açısından incelemektir. Çalışma grubunu İstanbul'daki bir devlet üniversitesinin Türkçe eğitimi bölümünde öğrenim gören 36 öğretmen adayı oluşturmaktadır. Çalışma grubundaki öğretmen adaylarına "haber metni, küçürek öykü, köşe yazısı, anı ve deneme" türlerinde birer metin okutulmuş, metinden anladıklarını Twitter uygulamasının bir sınırlılığı olan 140 karakterle ifade etmeleri istenmiştir. Araştırmanın sonuçlarına göre, Türkçe öğretmeni adaylarının deneme ve köşe yazısı türlerinde daha başarılı olduğu; haber, küçürek öykü ve anı metninde ise başarılarının daha düşük seviyede olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Genel anlamda Türkçe öğretmeni adaylarının 3 ve üzerinde anahtar kelimeyi kullanamadıkları görülmüş, bu sebeple okudukları bir metinden hareketle çıkarımlarını yazılı olarak ifade etmede zorlandıkları sonucuna varılmıştır.
