Twenty-five men with experience in ST were randomly divided into 3 experimental groups: a) 4 low-load exercises at 20% of the one-repetition maximum (1RM) combined with continuous BFR (LL+CBFR), b) 4 low-load exercises at 20% of 1RM combined with intermittent BFR (LL+IBFR); and c) 4 low-load exercises at 20% of 1RM without BFR (LL). Twelve sessions of ST were performed (twice a week for 6 weeks). There were no differences between groups for all variables (p > 0.05). However, there were significant differences in time for the LME in the triceps pulley only in the LL+CBFR group (p < 0.001) and in the biceps pulley in the groups LL+CBFR, LL+IBFR and LL (p < 0.001, p = 0.002, p = 0.032), respectively, with large magnitudes only for the two forms of the BFR. It can be concluded that continuous or intermittent BFR seems to be a good alternative for the increase of the LME of the upper limbs in single-joint exercises.

Participaram do estudo 13 universitários normotensos (19.5 ± 1.7anos).

The aim of this study was to compare the acute effects of low-intensity (LI) resistance exercise ... more The aim of this study was to compare the acute effects of low-intensity (LI) resistance exercise (RE) with continuous blood flow restriction (CBFR) and intermittent blood flow restriction (IBFR) on systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and mean arterial pressure (MAP). After a one-repetition maximum test, 10 normotensive recreationally trained men performed three experimental protocols. In the three RE protocols, increases in SBP, DBP, and MAP were observed immediately after exercise, but the effect sizes (ESs) were greater for the LI + CBFR and high-intensity protocols. There were hypotensive effects on SBP, DBP, and MAP in all three protocols; however, the effects on MAP lasted longer for the LI + IBFR and LI + CBFR protocols. These long-lasting hypotensive effects on DBP and MAP occurred in all three protocols. Thus, we conclude that the post exercise hypotensive effects on SBP, DBP, and MAP appear to occur in all three RE protocols, with the effect on SBP being longer in the LI + IBFR and LI + CBFR protocols.

Objective: To investigate whether a change in the type of platform in different intensities (60 and 80% 1MR) in bench press exercise can affect the strength performance and the subjective effort perception (SEP) of trained men. Methods: Twenty-six apparently healthy men (23.2 ± 3.7 years, 1.77 ± 0.07 m, 79.6 ± 12.3 kg, 25.4 ± 2.9 kg/m 2) performed the test and retest of 1RM of a bench press (BP) on a stable platform (SP). The subjects were randomly divided into four experimental situations, in which all of them performed the BP tests at 60% and 80% of 1RM on the UP and 60% and 80% of 1MR on the SP. Results: The strength performance (the number of repetitions and total volume) of the BP exercise was significantly higher on a SP compared to an UP (P < 0.001) for both intensities. The SEP was significantly higher on the UP compared to the SP (P < 0.001) and at an intensity of 80% of 1RM compared to 60% of 1RM (P < 0.001). Conclusion: Acutely, regardless of the intensity, the BP exercise promotes better strength performance when performed on a SP and provides a greater effort sensation when performed on the UP.

A soft tissue metastasis is extremely rare, and synchronous metastases to the bone and soft tissue is not reported in the literature so far. We report such a case of a 42-yr-old male, who presented with a goiter, scalp and forearm soft tissue swellings, and, fine needle aspiration cytology of all these swellings revealed a follicular neoplasm. A wide excision of the forearm swelling was carried out and the histopathology was consistent with features of metastatic follicular carcinoma of the thyroid. The main stay of treatment is surgical resection of the primary tumor. The various modalities of treatment of metastasis is discussed with a review of literature.
