We present the results of our attempt to use NLP tools in order to identify named entities in the publications of the Deutsches Archäologisches Institute (DAI) and link the identified locations to entries in the iDAI.gazetteer. Our case study focuses on articles written in German and published in the journal Chiron between 1971 and 2014. We describe the annotation pipeline that starts from the digitized texts published in the new portal of the DAI. We evaluate the performances of geoparsing and NER and test an approach to improve the accuracy of the latter.

A user can interact with the system through two channels: i) world modelling system (WMS), ii) natural language interface (NLI). WMS allows definition of physical objects by means of a Concept Description Language (CDL) and storage of their properties in a Conceptual Data Base (CDB) as well as execution of graphic and geometric operations on defined objects (GL, graphic language). GL can also be accessed by the NLI by means of declarative sentences. NLI is a general purpose tool, which can be configured by the user for a specific application domain modelling interactively the semantics of the italian language. The application domain considered in this work is the synthesis of scenographies.

It was then extended to omni-stereo systems to perform 3D information recovery and disparity map estimation. Although the same rectification technique has already been exploited also to the classical stereo-vision problem, no one has described its natural application to Hybrid Dual Camera Systems yet. This is what we are going to highlight in this paper by presenting all the geometrical relationships characterizing such systems. A critical assessment of some practical results is also reported in the last section.
