So, the great importance to focus on attitudes of critical care nurses, those who give a direct care to the elderly patients and their positive attitudes towards elders and adequate knowledge care would improve the quality of care. Aim: to assess ageism in ICU, critical care nurse's knowledge, attitude and advocacy toward caring for critically ill elderly patients. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional design. Setting 9 ICU at Aswan city hospital. Subjects: A purposive sample 114 nurses. Tools were used to collect data; socio-demographic data of critical care nurses, the Ageism Attitude Scale (AAS), protective nursing advocacy scale and a self-administered knowledge questionnaire. Results: Highest percentage of study subjects had low levels of attitude regarding positive ageism domain and total ageism score (93%) and (59.6%) respectively. Background: All healthcare professionals are susceptible to commit adverse events. Nurses are the... more Background: All healthcare professionals are susceptible to commit adverse events. Nurses are the key to safety improvements in many aspects. Aim of this study was to investigate perception of patient safety among nurses at Shebin ElKom Teaching Hospital. The Design of this study was descriptive research design. A convenient sample of 114 nurses was selected to carry out this study. Setting of this study was Shebin ElKom Teaching Hospital. Tool of this study was Nurse Questionnaire [1]. Results showed that there was significant difference in the nurses' perception of work environment (80.16± 15.8; P< 0.000). The majority of nurses (57.9%) perceived low patient safety. The majority of nurses (63.2, 52.6, 57.9, 57.9 & 52.6) perceived never occurrence of adverse events. The majority of nurses did not formally report adverse events. Conclusion: nurses perceive negative work environment, job dissatisfaction, low patient safety and underreporting trend of the adverse events. Recommendation: Strategies for improvement should include non-punitive adverse event reporting system, develop patient safety policy and set clear guidelines for improving the work environment dimensions.

Patient safety is freedom from healthcare-associated, preventable harm. To maintain or improve pa... more Patient safety is freedom from healthcare-associated, preventable harm. To maintain or improve patient safety, error has to be prevented, rectified or at least minimized. Aim of the study is to determine the perception of patient safety competence among under graduate nursing students. A descriptive research design was used. Setting: Faculty of Nursing Menoufiya University. Sample: convenient sample of 120 fourth year nursing students. Tool for data collection: Health Professional Education in Patient Safety Survey (H-PEPSS). Results: nursing students have moderately competent related to domain of patients safety, There were statistical significant differences between learning in class room and leaning clinical setting related to culture of safety and the total specific patient safety content areas. The mean score is higher in clinical area than in class room. Conclusion: Nursing students have moderate level of competence related to patient safety. Recommendation: patient safety issues must be included in the curricula of undergraduate nursing students. Introduction: Patient safety is a new health care discipline that emphasizes the reporting, analysis and prevention of medical error that often leads to adverse health care events.
