The alternative classroom has recently attracted much attention as it can engage and encourage ch... more The alternative classroom has recently attracted much attention as it can engage and encourage children while teaching them life skills. This study briefly investigated the impact of drama lessons on the growth of indigenous students in one of West Malaysia's orang Asli communities. It is essential in widening the option of teaching approach because it would enable educators and indigenous students to learn more about drama as an alternative approach to learning. Through drama education, the children would also be introduced to various learning experiences and classroom settings. This paper investigates how drama is used as a method in the alternative classroom for indigenous children. It hopes to prove that children will be interested in learning and be able to develop their social skills if given more opportunities. In the qualitative study, the instruments employed to investigate what transpired throughout the activities were observation and interviews. Findings of this research reveals positive outcomes of drama, categorised into learning from real-life situations. It also highlights the use of drama to improve the children's non-verbal communication. The findings can be used as a guideline for practitioners to get a general overview of how drama can be used as a teaching approach in the alternative classroom and could be a discovery for the curriculum planner to implement drama for both formal and informal learning. This study could be complemented by future research on the challenges involved in teaching drama to indigenous children. Other than this, observation periods should be longer and more frequent because social and educational progress takes time to develop. Finally, future researchers may need to think about using alternative drama strategies that would fit the children's abilities.

One of the more popular SoHo endeavours on the internet is by becoming an infopreneur, or a seller of digital information products through online sales letters. The success of online sales letters to garner sales depends heavily on how credible and persuasive they are. This preliminary study aims to firstly identify some successful online sales letters and then to analyse them in order to find out their persuasive features. They will be further analysed to gauge their conformance to web credibility guidelines.

Notably, video-making projects are frequently used to help English as Second Language (ESL) students actively apply the target language learned in the classroom to real-world situations. However, only a few studies have discussed the use of video-making projects by undergraduate students as active learning assignments and their benefits in developing communication skills. Oleh itu, penggunaannya masih terhad dan hanya terdapat di sekolah-sekolah Bestari, oleh kerana kekurangan bahan tersebut terutanmanya yang berasaskan KBSM. Projek ini dibangunkan adalah untuk menyumbangkan ke arah pembekalan material pendidikan dalam pendidikan di Malaysia sekaligus menilai setakat mana keupayaan dan sumbangannya ke ats pendidikan terutamanya pembelajaran Bahasa Inggeris. Kajian berbentuk deskriptif dijalankan dalam bentuk tinjauan dengan menggunakan WSPS (Writer Self Perception Scale) (Appendix A) sebagai alatan kajian. Kajian ini akan bertumpu hanya pada pelajar tahun tiga dan empat dari Program Ijazah TESL di Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Data yang diperolehi dari tinjauan yang dijalankan akan diproses menggunakan WSPS Scoring Sheet (Appendix B) dan pelajar akan dibahagikan kepada beberapa kumpulan berdasarkan daripada markah yang mereka perolehi. Laporan ini adalah mengenai projek pembangunan multimedia yang memfokuskan kepada peningkatan kem... more Laporan ini adalah mengenai projek pembangunan multimedia yang memfokuskan kepada peningkatan kemahiran mendengar. Dua objektif utama projek ini ialah untuk membangunkan laman web yang interaktif bagi kemahiran mendengar untuk aktiviti kendiri dan untuk membuat penilaian dari sudut pakar dalam rekabentuk pembangunan dan rekabentuk program. Model ADDIE telah digunakan sebagai garis panduan dalam membina laman web ini. Secara keseluruhannya, 9 orang pensyarah dari Jabatan Bahasa Moden, telah membuat penilaian ke atas laman web yang merangkumi rekabentuk pembangunan dan rekabentuk program. Data-data telah dikumpul melaui soal selidik dan sesi soal jawab. Keputusan yang didapati menunjukkan bahawa laman web ini mempunyai potensi yang besar untuk diketengahkan bagi kegunaan pelajar yang mengambil matapelajaran UHB 1312. Akan tetapi, projek ini perlu diperbaiki lagi dari segi isi kandungan pelajaran dan elemen-elemen multimedianya.

The experiences and perceptions of the learners would assist the language teachers in understanding the impact of online discussion in language learning process. Questionnaires were distributed to the second year Civil Engineering students who were doing the UHB 2332 English for Civil Engineering subject. The study found that generally, the students were highly literate in using the Internet. They had positive experiences and perceptions in relation to asynchronous learning environment. Furthermore, the students have moderately positive views of the task of discussing online towards the use of asynchronous learning environment for language teaching and learning.

Out of these millions of apps, tens of thousands of them are educational apps. Some of these apps can help both educators and students in their teaching and learning activities. However, because of the sheer number of apps available to be downloaded for free in the market, it has become hard for educators and students to choose which ones are right for them to fulfil their needs. In order to help them determine the overall quality of these educational apps and gauge their specific strengths and weaknesses, several educational app evaluation rubrics have been proposed by researchers. ‘It is difficult to write’ – a remark we often hear from students, both undergraduates and post-g... more ‘It is difficult to write’ – a remark we often hear from students, both undergraduates and post-graduates. Many of them sighed as they urged their language lecturers to help them write. Lecturers, too, after giving a numerous inputs on writing skills, would sometime groan and feel annoyed with this same request from students. Why can’t the students write? They have learnt the skill ever since they were in primary school. What else can be done to help them improve their writing? We are aware that the skill of writing needs to be carefully developed and constantly polished if one wants to be a good writer. Some of us also believe that a person with good writing skills can eventually make money by just writing – expressing his ideas on just anything. A writer, Jeniri Amir, has actually published a book on ‘Buat duit dengan menulis – Make money by writing’ with the hope that others would take up his suggestion or should we say ‘challenge’. Though lecturers like us could not really spend time to write and make money as much as much we want to, we believe that by helping our students to master the skills of writing, they could at least write a good project report and thesis. We also believe that our students need to experience the joy of expressing their thoughts without having to worry too much about forms - if they can write about things around them and give their views and comments on other people’s written work; they have actually overcome one of the hurdles to becoming a good writer. Hence, with these beliefs, we dared ourselves to embark on the weblog journal writing project.

A summer school immersion program for Japanese EFL learners was conducted, in a Malaysian univers... more A summer school immersion program for Japanese EFL learners was conducted, in a Malaysian university setting, with the aim of enhancing the learners’ English language communicative ability. This program incorporated the Buddy System and was also attended by an equal number of Malaysian ESL learners with basic knowledge of the Japanese language. The Japanese learners were given training in oral communication and exposure to the Malaysian culture. In addition, they were also given more communication opportunities as a result of the buddy system. Apart from the formal activities planned, the buddy system had created more opportunities for the Malaysian and Japanese buddies to develop good friendship using English as the medium of communication. There seemed to be a natural progression which extended beyond the formal classroom setting; informal outings to explore local food, culture and places were organized by the buddies, and communicating the experiences gained via Facebook and jour...

Selain daripada itu, kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenal pasti strategi-strategi penulisan yang digunakan oleh penulis yang baik dengan penulis yang kurang baik. Di dalam kajian ini, strategi penulisan diklasifikasikan sebagai secara langsung ( terdiri daripada memory, cognitive, dan comprehension) dan tidak langsung ( metacognitive, affective dan social).
