Several ecodriving application already appeared on the market. They consist in providing a feedback to the drivers describing their ecodriving behavior and they rely on embedded sensors signals (GPS speed and acceleration). However most of these applications does not take into account upcoming events such as curves, slopes or crossings to advise the driver on the best actions to undertake to lower energy consumption. Furthermore, they do not analyze data coming from vehicle sensors. In this paper, we present an application, developed within the FP7 European project ecoDriver, that provides several innovative properties: advice according to upcoming events, a real time evaluation of the driving behavior, the analysis of past actions, an interface with OBD2 connector, ... Research questions and objectives of the project were divided into three major themes: user acceptance, behaviour, as well as energy use and emissions, which led to the formation of 24 hypotheses in total. A large number of Performance Indicators were identified, which will be used to validate the hypotheses. These Performance Indicators were grouped into 16 categories, covering the aforementioned three research themes. To provide empirical data for validating the hypotheses and answering the research questions, a series of field trials will be taken place in SP3. There are 12 fleets of vehicles, across 7 countries and covering a wide range of vehicle types. This deliverable outlines experimental design of the field trials, including fleet specifications, participant recruitment, route selection, test procedures, and data collection protocol etc. There are similarities but ...

In order to evaluate the potential impacts of future ecological driving assistance system (EDAS) in comparison with usual techniques, a statistical approach is proposed. Two kinds of experiments are analysed in this paper: In the first one, simple advice were given to the participants, while in the second one, full courses with eco-driving experts were used. Performance indicators were derived from five commonly referred golden rules of eco-driving and used as model inputs. Different kind of statistical models are discussed, among which we choose to apply the ordinary logistic regression to assess the effects of each driving advice separately Results show that ecodriving advices are better applied after a course than just providing tips. The approach is then extended to build a generic model that can be used both to characterize a...

Such a situation can be underlined by a judicious use of the locations and the uncertainties of both the navigating vehicle and the obstacles. We propose to build an estimation of the collision probability from the environment perception with its probabilistic modelling. The probability of collision is computed from a product of integrals of a product of Gaussians. The integrals take into account the uncertain configurations and the volume of both the vehicle and the obstacles.

At the same time, motor vehicles are major emitters of gaseous and particulate pollution in urban areas. The transport industry’s quest to limit its impact on the environment and improve road safety continues to drive policy, research and development. Eco-driving is a well-established, affordable and simple behavioural change intervention, which could reduce fuel consumption up to 20%. Fully electric vehicles are predicted to be available for the mass market by 2020, however an energy efficient driving style will still be necessary for these vehicles due to a relatively poor battery performance. Furthermore Eco-driving could be applied to electric or thermal vehicles. Despite a widespread adoption of Eco-driving, its safety benefits have not been clearly established. This paper discusses research issues related to Eco-driving interventions. It covers policy, industry practice a...

This functional analysis begins with a functional modeling of space-speed profiles and the study of mathematical properties of these functions. Then, in a first step, a smoothing procedure based on spline smoothing is developed in order to convert the raw data into functional objets and to filter out the measurement noise as efficiently as possible. It is shown that this smoothing step leads to a complex nonparametric regression problem that needs to take into account two constraints: the use of the derivative information, and a monotonicity constraint. The performance of the proposed two-step estimator (smooth, and then monotonize) is illustrated on simulation studies and a real data example. In a second step, we use a curve registration method based on landmarks alignment in order to construct ...

Altogether, about 1000 vehicles equipped with eight different ADAS technologies will take part in the field operational test. The focus of the analysis is an impact assessment on safety, traffic efficiency and environment. This paper will present the elaborated methodologies for conducting the safety impact assessment by means of the collected data from the field test. The safety analysis represents the most challenging part of the impact assessment, because no standardized methodologies exist. The objective of the safety analysis is to determine the change in accident risk, while driving with the ADAS functionality. Altogether two approaches have been defined for the safety impact analysis and adapted to the specific conditions in euroFOT, the event based analysis (EBA) and the aggregation based analysis (ABA). The EBA approach is a...
