The problem of unwanted detection of input noise interpreted as useful pulses in Delay Attenuate ... more The problem of unwanted detection of input noise interpreted as useful pulses in Delay Attenuate and Compare (DAC) circuits is considered. The performance of DAC alone is examined and compared to the performance when provided with two different protection circuits based on signal amplitude and signal width. Formulas for computing the false alarm time for Gaussian noise are computed and applied to several false alarm examples. The correctness of the formulas is verified by comparison with experimental results. Both types of circuits are found to assure the DAC circuit adequate protection for the L-band precision Distance Measuring Equipment case. In other applications requiring higher false alarm time the two circuits can be jointly adopted.

Analytical and numerical examples are presented to illustrate this modification. It is determined that when the phenomenon occurs, substantial changes in the decay of the electromagnetic field against the distance from the structure occur. The numerical method used is based on

In particular, it is shown that different coverage strategies and propagation conditions not only affect the absolute value of spectral efficiency but also the comparison among different systems. The concept of a `scenario' for evaluation and comparison is introduced, and examples of computation of spectral efficiency are given in a deterministic and in a statistical scenario (in the presence of log-normal fading). A reference optimum system is introduced in order to be able to express system spectral efficiency in a relative way

A program to simulate the model for applications to mobile radio systems is described. The program is useful in the analysis of the attenuation statistics and waveforms in the presence of pulse modulation.

Network planning of modern personal communications systems has been accomplished so far on a manu... more Network planning of modern personal communications systems has been accomplished so far on a manual basis by means of heuristic solutions, but this process is quite time consuming and errors are frequent. Recently, a number of automatic procedures for optimally locating base stations have been developed. In the present paper we try to highlight the influence of the adopted multiple access scheme on the optimal base site locations, and therefore we analyse if and where the deployment of the base stations is eventually influenced. This aspect could be quite interesting in order to compare two existing systems and their flexibility in network optimization; but perhaps it is even more challenging to evaluate how a migration from one system to the other (e.g. from GSM to CDMA) can exploit the present base mesh and thus which difficulties the of the new system has to cope with

From statistical models for urban propagation, an analytical formulation can be obtained to characterise RT asymptotic properties. The formation is exploited to develop an empirical model to speed-up simulation times

Although very young - he was thirty-five-years old - he had proved how far his system of wireless telegraphy could work, from the first experiments carried out near Bologna, till the first commercial transatlantic service inaugurated in 1907. This successful path will be presented as well as some considerations on

Theoretical aspects of SST electronic subsystem development are considered. An emphasis weighting function technique applied to a frequency hopping SST system is analyzed and compared to the operation of frequency hopping in regions of the television frequency band which are less sensitive to interference. The characteristics of measuring systems adapted to the research needs of SST development are discussed.

The proposed system approaches the theoretical limit of two bytes for coding the points of a geographic network. Data processing is accomplished by repeating elementary operations on each of the surface elements composing the area of interest, and integrating the results using simple geographic operators. The operators for extraction, incorporation and selection of data are described. It is shown that a simple combination of geographic functions allows the efficient management of a data base with the described structure.

Starting from a circular wave guide sliced along a diametral plane, a phase shift is introduced by a dielectric concentric solid half cylinder while the restitution of the original phase is performed on the other half volume using a concentric dielectric shell. The various parameters involved are discussed with regard to attenuation of higher modes. An example is given of a filter of good characteristics up to 60 GHz. The underlying mathematical analysis is outlined.

Discussed here is the feasibility of a new satellite system at EHF (40/50 GHz) to complement, at the end of the decade, the GSM system or its decendants in order to provide additional services at 64 kbits/s, or so. The main system aspects, channel characteristics, technology issues, and both on-board and earth terminal architectures are highlighted. Based on the performed analyses, a proposal was addressed to the Italian Space Agency (ASI), aimed at the implementation of a national plan.

The design criteria of propagation media are derived from the non-infinite conductivity of metallic walls and the propagation deformation effects on the TE01 mode. The effects of multi-mode propagation are discussed presenting a simplified model based on the coupled mode propagation equations, and the influence of curves and deformations are examined. The distortion and noise increase produced by mode reconversion are analyzed.
