The equations are formulated in six variables, counting vectors as one: The surface elevation, the horizontal gradient of the velocity potential at the free surface, the horizontal and vertical velocities at the free surface and the horizontal and vertical velocities at an arbitrary z-level. The arbitrary z-level is determined by optimizing the vertical distribution of the horizontal and vertical velocity components compared to linear fully dispersive wave theory. A Stokes type analysis is performed and the new formulation is found to retain high accuracy in the linear and nonlinear characteristics for wave numbers as high as kh=30. A numerical model is developed in one horizontal dimension and results are presented for the case of a highly nonlinear solitary wave propagating over a constant depth. The numerical results are shown to be in excellent agreement with exact solutions.

This paper presents the Accord autonomic services architecture that addresses this requirement. Accord enables service and application behaviors and their interactions to be dynamically specified and adapted using high-level rules, based on current application requirements, state and execution context. The design, implementation and evaluation of Accord are presented. An autonomic data streaming application is used to illustrate the self-managing behaviors enabled by Accord.

Research paper thumbnail of Angiogenic Activity CXC Chemokine-Induced + ELR CXCR2, Is the Putative Receptor for The CXC Chemokine Receptor 2

We have previously shown that members of the ELR ؉ CXC chemokine family, including IL-8; growth-r... more We have previously shown that members of the ELR ؉ CXC chemokine family, including IL-8; growth-related oncogenes ␣, ␤, and ␥; granulocyte chemotactic protein 2; and epithelial neutrophil-activating protein-78, can mediate angiogenesis in the absence of preceding inflammation. To date, the receptor on endothelial cells responsible for chemotaxis and neovascularization mediated by these ELR ؉ CXC chemokines has not been determined. Because all ELR ؉ CXC chemokines bind to CXC chemokine receptor 2 (CXCR2), we hypothesized that CXCR2 is the putative receptor for ELR ؉ CXC chemokine-mediated angiogenesis. To test this postulate, we first determined whether cultured human microvascular endothelial cells expressed CXCR2. CXCR2 was detected in human microvascular endothelial cells at the protein level by both Western blot analysis and immunohistochemistry using polyclonal Abs specific for human CXCR2. To determine whether CXCR2 played a functional role in angiogenesis, we determined whether this receptor was involved in endothelial cell chemotaxis. We found that microvascular endothelial cell chemotaxis in response to ELR ؉ CXC chemokines was inhibited by anti-CXCR2 Abs. In addition, endothelial cell chemotaxis in response to ELR ؉ CXC chemokines was sensitive to pertussis toxin, suggesting a role for G protein-linked receptor mechanisms in this biological response. The importance of CXCR2 in mediating ELR ؉ CXC chemokine-induced angiogenesis in vivo was also demonstrated by the lack of angiogenic activity induced by ELR ؉ CXC chemokines in the presence of neutralizing Abs to CXCR2 in the rat corneal micropocket assay, or in the corneas of CXCR2 ؊/؊ mice. We thus conclude that CXCR2 is the receptor responsible for ELR ؉ CXC chemokine-mediated angiogenesis.

Rabbits were sacrificed and relative arteries were obtained at 4 weeks. Plasma total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and triglycerides (TG) were determined by commercially enzymatic methods. The pathological slides were prepared and stained for optical microscopic observation. The content of cholesterol in arteries wall was assayed with High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Immunohistochemistry staining was used to detect the expression in atherosclerotic lesions. Results showed that there was a low shear stress region (0e0.3 Pa) at distal of ring. At the end of 4 weeks, plasma total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol and triglyceride had no obviously changed in rabbits. HE staining showed that there were obvious atherosclerosis lesions in low shear stress field. There was obvious lipid deposition in atherosclerosis lesions. CXCR4 was highly expressed in atherosclerotic plaque without expression in control. These data suggest that CXCR4 may play important roles in atherosclerosis formation and development induced by low shear stress. It is the most common cause of chronic congestive heart failure and the most frequent reason for heart transplantation in young adults. There is increasing evidence demonstrating that genetic defects are involved in the pathogenesis of idiopathic DCM. Recent studies have shown that genetically defective LRRC10 predisposes animals to DCM. However, the association of LRRC10 with DCM in humans has not been reported. In the current study, the whole coding region and flanking splice junction sites of the LRRC10 gene were sequenced in 220 unrelated patients with idiopathic DCM. Plasma was collected during CAG. The coronary Gensini score was used to evaluate the severity of coronary artery lesions. Associations between Gensini scores and plasma levels of PTX3 and CRP were analysed. Patients with estimated glomerular filtration rate <60 mL/min/1.73 m(2) were included in the chronic renal dysfunction subgroup. A linear correlation was observed between PTX3 and the Gensini score (r=0.513, p<0.001). One-way analysis of variance showed that PTX3 levels were significantly higher in patients with Gensini scores >90 compared with patients with scores of 46-90 or…

Research paper thumbnail of Self-maintenance scheduling algorithms for next generation wireless networks

We propose a linear programming (ILP) model and two heuristic algorithms, and evaluate their effectiveness and time complexity via analysis and simulations. Our results show that all of the proposed approaches can effectively schedule the requests within a reasonable period of time, but with different suitable scenarios. The ILP approach is effective when the number of requests is large and yields close-to-optimal results; the RC-Cliques-RM algorithm is suitable at the presence of many constraints; while the RC-RM-Cliques algorithm can scale to large size networks at the expense of reduced accuracy. It is anticipated that the proposed scheduling algorithms will be generally applicable to various mobile wireless networks where self-maintenance is needed.

Here, we show that thromboxane A2 (TXA2) is one of several eicosanoid products generated by activated human microvascular endothelial cells. Selective COX-2 antagonists inhibit TXA2 production, endothelial migration, and fibroblast growth factor-induced corneal angiogenesis. Endothelial migration and corneal angiogenesis are similarly inhibited by a TXA2 receptor antagonist, SQ29548. These findings identify TXA2 as a COX-2 product that functions as a critical intermediary of angiogenesis.
